Swaddling is very much Dev pre draft .

Same deficiencies lack of pace and mediocre kicking .

Rodriguez has the same lack of pace but much better kick off both feet
Players who can kick well off both feet are worth their weight in gold.Plenty of players ( not all ) can get by on their non preferred but players fluent on both are few and far between.Having that ability negates the need for extra pace.Look no further than Sam Mitchell. If he was in todays draft he’d go No1

100% agree. I cant believe all players these days cant kick off both. Sam wouldve been an average, slow midfielder at best if he couldnt kick off both feet.

Duggan would be 10x as good if he could kick off the right foot.

Very happy the father son wasn't scraped or changed. But I think the academy picks should be limited, i.e. a max of 3 top 10 over a 5 year period for example.

I like that a lot. No more garbage pick hoarding.

It was always odd that pick 2 (after the 20% discount) is worth the same as apparently pick 18, 40, 41, 43, 57 and 59 or some ridiculous shit like that. No team would ever do that trade but it was considered sufficient to match the true cost of pick 2 (yes I am moaning about Will Ashcroft, gun player, all the best to him, hope he helps Brisbane demolish Geelong this weekend but Brisbane paid a low price for him).

So Carlton matching a bid for Walker with 8 & 26 before pick 4 would need to upgrade picks. Future picks and or player trading up into the 1st round to match.

Might mean early future picks are more valuable. Could we get a future 1st for our pick 19 or comp pick 🤔
Wonder if collingwood are keen enough to get back into the draft to trade an F1. Might start sliding next year.

I don’t think this draft is strong enough for anyone to do that but who knows picks will be swapping around everywhere.

It’s put even more value on those top picks

Well let's have a look at it shall we?

Eagles potentially have 1 & 2
Tigers 3 & 4
Essendon 5 & 6
Gold have Ports pick 7
St Kilda at 8
Hawks at 9
Blues at 10
Swans at 11
Dogs at 12

Eagles are not giving Pick 1 or 2 for Simpkin so unless we split a pick for two top ten picks that's not going to happen.

Tigers will not be giving up 3 or 4 for Simpkin. They have Hopper, Taranto and Presita in the middle to surround the youth.

If Bombers lose Merrett (they will) they are probably more likely to try and trade up for one of our picks to sell some hope to the members rather than bring in a player who is nowhere near Merretts quality. With Nic Martin out for most of next year and Draper running to QLD they will press the reset button and rebuild you'd think.

GC will do one of two things with the Port pick. Trade it in a deal for Curnow or swap it for more points for their two top 5 academy boys. Considering they need points this is more likely.

St Kilda may very well need to split this pick to pay for Aleer & Liam Ryan as they have no second rounders. They are also after Flanders too so you can rule that pick out.

Hawks will use 9 towards Merrett.

Blues want to trade out of this draft but i doubt they go for Simpkin. They have Walsh, Cripps, Cerra and Jagga Smith and Newman to come back in next year.

So now you are at the Swans at 11. They will try for Curnow first, if that fails then maybe they'll look at Simpkin.

Dogs have Treloar back next year and still have a midfield or Bont, Libba, Richards, Sanders..... They don't need him.

Another words unless Eagles split a pick because they want Simpkin or Bombers decide to burn a pick to bring in a player that will not get them closer to a premiership, or Swans miss out on Curnow and are hell bent on getting rid of the pick then i don't see where this pick in the 6-12 range is coming from.
I actually agree with you ThePuma #9, though I'm not 100% convinced IF Merrett leaves that Essendon will go full rebuild, maybe semi-rebuild? IF they go full rebuild with Tassie coming in 2027/2028 they are going to be in Hell. So maybe they will, maybe they wont, however way they go logic says that if Merrett leaves they still need a good senior mid to help guide the youngsters, teach them, they will have picks coming out their backside so its not going to be a problem and they can still get a couple of very good players or one gun.:)
