Provisional 2025 Draft order

There was some media comment in the lead up to the draft that we had some interest in him. He played some VFL for Geelong last year after playing locally for Anakie in the lowest league here in Geelong. I have a pro-Kenyan bias (he was born in Kenya) so I'd hoped we'd draft him. If Barnett et al are not looking like developing into top rucks he'd be well worth considering in the MSD, though I suspect our midfield needs are more pressing.

Sad that it has only been one game and this is the only thread I feel like reading at this point of the season

In reference to Reid potentially leaving, this is a perfect of example of how there absolutely can be smoke with no fire.

Imagine he has no intention of leaving or hasn't made his mind up, yet the SEN (Reid is leaving) circle jerk gets supporters all worked up so they pile on Reid whenever he doesn't play well. And then imagine these pile ons has him questioning his place at the club. And then he leaves.

SEN is BS.

They could use Warner’s money for Oscar and would make sense if he is leaving.

While it wouldn’t be a direct trade it would be pretty smart business (if both are leaving anyway)

Eagles - Warner + Sheldrick
Swans - Oscar + Pick 2* (Oscar compo) + Hawks pick 18*

If the Warner thing goes down what picks they want will come down to where their Academy kids are likely to go. They have 3 considered top 25ish and one maybe top 10.

List spots will be getting tight for them.

We're overpaying in that scenario imo

If Oscar leaves as an FA, we send the FA compo pick to Sydney, Warner comes to WC

We effectively get Warner for Oscar straight swap. Swans get Oscar and (a very likely) top 3 pick for Warner. That's win-win on its own.

Throwing in another first rounder just for Sheldrick seems way overs to me

Please point out to everyone who is reading, where I have posted that we should draft an AFL ready 18 yr old ruckman, that will instantly fix all our problems I dare ya!
Or you could just stop being a tool, which will definitely impossible for you to achieve…….sorry don’t even know why I suggested it.

Yeah, can see what you’re saying but If we are demanding two top 10 picks for Harley plus a future. And Bolton was worth what he was, Warner is worth more. Would be some other later picks to swap it around.

Warner being OCC makes it harder to judge but most teams still pay market value.

You are being very generous to Sydney.

As players they are pretty much on a par. Oscar is not that old either. Most teams would snap him up.
No way would we give up two first round picks, one of which is pick two as well as Oscar.

The problem is that we haven't drafted mids for a ten year period. We're missing that core group of 25 - 29 year olds that won't be bullied off the ball like we saw yesterday. It's ok that we've got Harley, Hewett and Allan, but ideally they would have senior players around them to carry the load.
I remember Simo saying in an interview about 8 years ago we play less mids and more forwards than most teams.

Tell me. Could Tunstill be a target for this year or is he in contract?
Hasn't really come on after his first year. Dev and Tunstill are both out of contract at the end of the season and are probable/possible delist candidates.

I thought we would really struggle at the start to this season then at end of year get better
If we finish last Warner has to come through the PSD so we can use picks on midfield talent

How’s the smug prick Eddie sinking the boot in at the end.

Kinda want to just go to the draft one last time, personally.

We'd be mad not to if we can get Sharp.

If that were the case, I'd be sticking to our guns re: Oscar's contract, which seems reasonable considering his injury history.

I think there’s good arguments for both Warner and going to the draft. Agree on Sharp and I’d probably rather Rodriguez than Warner given our almost total lack of inside mids to feed him the ball into space.

If we were to finish 17th I think that’s the sweet spot for Warner where we’d take whoever is left of Sharp and Rodriguez then trade 3 for Warner (if Oscar leaves). I’ve currently got Greeves #3 on my draft list and Warner would be a better acquisition than him at this stage, although the needle seems to be shifting towards him staying at the Swans on a two year deal. Getting him as a FA in 2027 trade period would be amazing, but no guarantees that far out.

If we don't get Warner we may as well buckle in for another couple of years building.
Let Oscar go, take a couple of high picks into the draft.
Try to grab a couple of moneyball mids who can help fill that gap for 2-3 years. Johnson, Sheldrick, etc.
Let Kelly go unless hes happy to stay on a small contract.
Chase young WA players like Curtin, D.Jones, Mcvee, etc.
Ask the question of any experienced midfield leaders around the comp too one that the Victorian players would know as a good player

This is pretty much where I sit too. Would Warner thrive in a bottom 4 midfield like ours, with no proper inside mid to feed it out to him? Might as well just draft Sharp(if available) and Rodriguez and have them develop together.

I just feel that if we're going to rebuild, might as well do it properly. Warner would be a great get, no doubt, but it would be fantastic if we could have a few top 5 pick mids all develop together, then make a play for a senior like, like Warner, in a couple of years time when things settle.

Making a play for Warner right now would feel a bit desperate, IMO, even if he would improve us short term.

Good. We're an expansion era club masquerading around as the West Coast Eagles. The shit is embarrassing. The ideal scenario would be Warner signing for two more years and Harley asking to go home so we can clean out Essendon of their picks so we can take a Richmond sized swing at the draft before Tassie.

If we're gonna lose by 60+ every week I'd rather it be with kids than the million dollar man Kelly mincing around the ground not giving two f*cks.

Oscar can go too if he wants so we can get that band one compo. Having a key forward is useless when it enters inside 50 30 times a game.

Warner will be 24, in terms of age profile with our list I’d much rather 24 than 18. The chance of even a top 5 draft pick being better than Warner is low but as many including yourself have mentioned have we got the other mids around him to utilise his strengths? Probably not but if we did finish last and Oscar left, a long term starting midfield of Sharp (when ready), Warner and Reid would be pretty appealing.

I'm really against trading out your high end picks this year.

And I've said it before, Warner isn't the type of mid you really need at this point in time.

However, as good as Sharp might be, WCE_phil is right, most young players don't really impact early in their careers, so I wouldn't be expecting Sharp to right your midfield in his rookie season.

Wouldn't be expecting him to fix the midfield for a few years, for sure. I know some fans will be impatient obviously but if you're going to rebuild, do it properly.

We've got good KPPs at either end and we also have replacements behind them. This draft I just want to pick 2x high end mids(may require pushing Oscar out) and a KPD, as well as another small forward.

Not set by any means but that's a fair amount of decently rated youth developing in key roles in the side.

Depends on what Reid does obviously.

We absolutely can't be splitting top picks again this year.
