Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Worth noting that the club doesn't need to make a call on Harley Reid, they have already done so.

In the space of about 18 months WC have rejected trade offers for pick 1, drafted Reid and presented a couple of options for a contract extension beyond 2026 to his management. It's pretty clear to anyone with two eyes and a heartbeat we are committed to Harley Reid. We will rebuild around him if he wants to stay.

If he wants to leave then the club will trade him whether it is this year or next. The idea that WC are going to do a Luka Doncic trade is silly, and not even possible in the AFL system.

RE: bringing WA talent home and using the PSD, other than Chad Warner who are the targets? We're probably not getting Sam Taylor or Nic Martin or Tim English at this point and we don't want to be spending assets to get players over 24/25 anyway.

Looking at players recently drafted that are finishing/have finished their initial contracts.

2018: Bobby Hill, do we need another flaky small forward? No.
2019: Georgiades would probably cost a first round pick, no. Robertson, no. Rivers, maybe.
2020: Logan McDonald would cost a first round pick, no. Shannon Neale plays for Geelong, no.
2021: Sheldrick, Van Rooyen - maybe.
2022: Busslinger, hasn't played. Darcy Jones, how much? Ed Allan, has played 4 games.
2023: Curtin, Collard, Hardeman wait and see until 2026.
The only qualifier on that is that we don't know what Reid and his manager have told West Coast. We will have asked for honesty about his intentions. And if he has told us he wants to go back to Melbourne at some point and by that he means at the end of this contract or shortly after then i am sure the club will keep that in house.

And in that case i am sure if we got an offer that was big enough that we didn't think we would get any more than that in a year or two years time and we could end up getting less then we would need to be prepared to listen to the offer.

Rule 1 - listen to all offers.

The big KPD we should be targeting is in town this week, hopefully we get in his ear to plant the seed before he keeps putting together a run of solid games. Perfect age and low cost (at this stage).
Do we really need Ben McKay?

While I have disagreed with targeting Z Reid because of his injury history, he would be a low cost option and better than a list spot for Barnett pending a decent string of games.

Parfitt is no superstar but he is an experienced head and big body that can protect your kids from getting banged up every game.

"Excellent VFL player, okay AFL player" is about his limit....we're not exactly talking prime Judd here. But he'd at least help hold the fort for a couple of years while your young mids mature.
Nailed it.

Would his WAFL form and previous AFL form mean he was playing this week 100%.

He would probably be playing in front of Hutchinson and Hall while they learn their midfield craft in the WAFL. (Or at least one of them) Gross a showing he is an AFL player and should be playing most weeks, the other 2 there is no point getting games into for the sake of getting games into if they ain’t going to make it anyway.

He could also be on the list for 4 years and by year 2.5 he would be an over taken by all these kids we have or will have.

Was in town early this week too, you’d hope they would’ve tried to have a meeting with him. Not sure he leaves, as he probably feels he owes the club a little.

Yep and if Harley wants to go back, you’d hope he would be happy to go to several clubs similar to Houston last year (Even though I don’t think he would’ve went to North even if his manager reckons he would’ve). Same management company

LOL Tom Morris. Whoever installed his hair hat probably drilled into his brain.

Nothing will change with West Coast’s proposal unless something significant changes with Allen's output.
Bone bruising can linger for a couple months you can play through it but its tough

I have probably been one Allen's hardest critic's especially on his leadership but he really should not of been
playing

He has done himself a disservice by putting his hand up to play

Absolutely. All offers.

All WC can offer is years and dollars, which any other club can also do.

He is under contract and has very little bargaining power this year. I have absolutely nothing against Harley Reid and I think he's doing the right thing not committing to a 25 year contract 5 minutes into his career. I would love it if he stays but if he doesn't want to play for WC then so be it. But players need to understand that they are commodities when it comes to trade week. I don't want to hear from some player agent that "their client really wants to join" club A that has nothing of value to trade.

Remember, Geelong refused to trade Tim Kelly in 2018. A 24 year old with the most genuine case of "family reasons" and they said no. It is still OK for clubs to stand up for themselves.

Reid into that as you will. z

+ His brother already plays for the team.
+ He wouldn’t stifle the development of Brock or Edwards because he’s awful and wouldn’t get a game.

Be it Zach Reid, Busslinger or another - If there is a possibility of North assistance package 1.0, an extra R2/R3 would be perfect to sign up these guys. I am still hoping for something significant with bated breathe.

This might be silly, can we not get some veterans like Mitch Duncan, Stephen Coniglio, Tom Mitchell throw a year, or two offer (player/coach) role through the NGA and have them play in the Beagles?

Excellent VFL player ok AFL player sounds like a dream come true at the moment

If he's inured he's injured. He doesn't look like he's moving well but then not many players do when you lose by 80.

Unfortunately for OA it vindicates WC's position a bit. He missed all of 2022 and half of 2024 and looks proppy to start 2025. The club shouldn't be recklessly committing 6+ years at $800k+ or whatever it is to a player with questionable availability. If the body of work was 2023, the back half of 2024 and then 20+ games of comparable form again in 2025 I would say sign him up today.

Yeo turned 26 in 2019 with no real injury concerns. Since he has played 10, 12, 5, 10, 20, 0* games.
Shuey turned 26 in 2016 with no real injury concerns. From 30 to 33 he played 13, 7, 17, 10 games.
Naitanui did his first ACL at 26 and then played 0, 15, 5, 17, 22, 8, 0 games.
McGovern barely missed a game his first 5 years and hasn't played 20 games in a season since 2019, missing 40+ games since 2020.

It's only really Gaff and Darling who justified long contracts into their 30s based on availability and their output dropped off the last couple of years, moreso Gaff than Darling.

We're not paying him for 2018-2025, we're paying him for 2026-. It's low hanging fruit to pile onto WC but I don't see 17 clubs lining up with big money offers.

Simmo was asked about trade targets on SEN recently.

He reflected on the aggressive poaching strategy that has become increasingly common in AFL, and stated that West Coast’s main strategy is to keep tabs on WA players at other clubs
.
That’s an insane strategy that only accounts for about 15% of players in the comp.

Simmo said he was surprised that Redden wanted to come to us as he has no links to the club.

This is the type of thinking and philosophy that will not lead to success.

Trading is just too big a part of list management and listing building in 2025 for this to be your philosophy.

Lions wouldn’t have a flag if they didn’t get Daniher and Dunkley, two players who had zero connection to QLD.
Dunkley is married to a QLD girl. His family have long had a holiday house up the Sunshine Coast.

See these are the stats the media ( even Will Schofield ) fail to see when we seem too stingy to offer Oscar a massive long term contract to a player who has had injury problems.

Yeah I wasn't going to come to your own board and say something like that 🤣

But yes, I imagine in the difficult circumstances you guys find yourselves, having someone who's shown they can at least play okay at AFL level would be very handy.
