Someone on 3AW mentioned Laura Kane had told clubs to ensure they had a female as part of their recruiting teams.
So perhaps some change coming to our team.
I'm all for it, you try negotiating with my wife...

I recall reading Emma Quayle’s draft work prior to joining GWS. I highly respected her work
There are a number of women who are very talented and I honestly couldn't care less what's between your legs when it comes to scouting etc. but mandating someone is there based on gender is stupid. It's this sort of stuff that leads people to questions like "is this person qualified or are they a DEI hire?" It damages the perception of the few who are absolutely phenomenal at the gig.

This is what people like Laura Kane dont understand. By drawing the dinstinction based on gender, not ability, it causes a divide - it hinders not helps things.

It's about time Mama Kane was given the arse, she's bought SFA to the game.
She even supports umpires who have absolutely made the wrong decision e.g. the Elliot Yeo holding the ball decision.
Dillon hasn't got the sack to pull her into line. He's another one that should get the arse.

Given we have a women’s comp now, it would make sense for smart teams to train women in how to put a team together, including exposing them to a draft room

Every organisational study has shown diversity in the workplace improves decision making, so why not have a woman there if you’re a smart club?

Trust an old white male to be upset about others to have an opportunity.

Agreed, I don't think she ever made the demand as most rooms didn't have women in them. Those that did appeared to be there on ability (eg GWS as already discussed).

Diversity is an interesting one as it's hard to define from external characteristics. You can grab a bunch of people around the same age, sex and appearance and end up with a very diverse group (due to different personalities and experiences in life). To me it reinforces why racism and sexism is foolish, as skin colour and genitals doesn't correlate to capabilities.
 
I suspect there was probably a directive to be more diverse in the draft/recruitment teams and encouragement to get more women involved in the industry and some old man has read it as “bloody woke shit again!!!!” and leaked it as “she told us we have to have a woman present” and here we are.

Probably an argument for a different thread but without quotas, many companies refuse to change. A room full of blokes probably thinks everything is going fine and they don’t need a woman. This prevents qualified people outside the ‘norm’ getting an opportunity. Despite all the evidence showing a diverse range of viewpoints leads to better results. Mandates are usually required because industries are too stubborn to change voluntarily. And an industry like football probably requires a mandate and a swift kick up the arse.

Yep, this.

As much as everyone likes to point the finger at initiatives that address gender/ racial/ etc inequalities in businesses and scream "DEI PICK!!!", its pretty telling that a lot of companies that dont conform to these initiatives usually end up being run by old, white men for decades.

But this is the draft thread so I wont digress further.

A lot of men over the last couple of hundred years have got jobs they didn't have the ability to do simply because they were men.
It's all very easy to say everyone's equal and will be judged on ability when they have locked up all the wealth and power amongst themselves already.

Ummm... a distinction based on gender already exists. I suspect that Laura Kane, a woman working in a heavily male dominated industry, probably understands that better than most.

I think there is definitely an ideal 2025 offseason which puts us in the hot seat for finals come 2026. Here’s the copium version.

Oscar Allen wants 7 years and we’re not budging with 5. Both Brisbane and Sydney are offering him 7. He decides he has to do what’s best for his future and moves to Sydney. We take home band 1 compensation for Oscar Allen. We finish second last with 7 wins and roughly 80%. Freo finish top 4 and go out in straight sets. Sydney lose in a prelim. Chad Warner decides to come home. He chooses west coast. And Freo doesn’t have the currency to get a good deal. We send our band 1 pick (3) our future 1st and second for The Warner Bros, Sydney’s 2025 FRP and their 2026 2ndRP. We sign Brandon Starcevich in FA (or trade a second for him as I’m not sure what will happen because of Oscar). Cripps and Sheed retire, we delist chess, Rawlinson and Petch. We take picks 2, Syd FRP and Haw FRP to the draft and try to trade our remaining picks into the next draft.

Chesser will not be delisted at the end of this year, what a ridiculous suggestion.

I think he’s staring down the barrel of being delisted, maybe traded. If he has another poor year, it will be on the books. If Allan and Hewett can break into the team it’s over for him.

Offering Oscar more than 3 years would be greatly irresponsible by our club in my opinion. He has proven to be not a reliable on the park player.
Love Oscar but emotional contracts need to be thrown out the door. Trade him for Warner and move on. Win/win for both clubs.
 
I don't think it's ridiculous at all if he doesn't have a good year.

I can guarantee the eagles won’t be delisting a pick 14 after 3 uninjured seasons, have a peak at the 2020 draft and all the hacks that are still on afl lists.
