I'm not saying he's hurt his value this preseason, I'm saying his ceiling is unknown and he doesn't do himself any favours signing this early.

I don’t agree with your general vibe. Harley could get [emoji638][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] million over [emoji637][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] years.

He’s not going to shift those numbers too much one way or the other based on his performances this year tbf.

I think so too.

Now to win a premiership in that time 💪
I still think with a little more good drafting this year and 2 big years of trading players in we will be finals ready in 2028 with the growth of our young list and getting 30-40 more games into our 22yo and unders we should be ready to give another premiership a shake in 2030 imo.

OK. I thought they got 3 but i might be wrong.

It was kind of a forced sale so that might have knocked the price down a bit.

But if Harley does go we probably need to face the fact that the best offer we can get might be two firsts which is less than what we think he is worth. It is hard for clubs to offer more than that for any player. Which is why i say if we get a better offer than that this year and we are sure he is going then we should consider it.
Luckily clubs have 3 years of picks to use now, but unless we get multiple top 10 2025 picks yeah itll be unders by quite a margin

All this media speculation is just BS. If Harley himself indicated he was not going to extend his contract and desperately wanted to go back to Victoria then he goes to Richmond this year along with our F2 for their 1R, F1 and North’s 1R.

I still think he’ll sign an extension with us, probably only for a year then his next contract will come down to whether we’re looking into a flag window.
Yeha im still in the boat he re-signs, just no real indication that he wants to leave at all so far

If Harley goes we will 100% get less than what we think he's worth. No club, apart from maybe Tassie, will have the draft capital.

He'll also have achieved less than Judd if he leaves after his initial 3 years. Juddy was the best player in the competition and he got us a top 5 pick (but not the Pick 1 held by Carlton) a second round pick, a raw KPP that didn't even want to come, and we had to send a pick back.

We won in the end thanks largely to JK becoming an all-time great, but yeah. We ain't getting what we think he's worth.

I hope he stays. He made footy fun again.
Richmond arguably would be able to satisfy, with pick 1 and their 2 f1s(2026+2027), plus norths 1st this year.
Wouldnt be happy if he asked to go to the Tigers but at least we wouldnt get ripped off if we got pick 1 + norths f1(top 5 pick?) + something for example

Yeah but 2027 draft will be the Tasssie Devils concessions for 2028 start expect 2028 to be the same so it's this year's and next best value for draft picks .

If that happened, I'd 'encourage' Oz to take up FA. Entering this draft with 4 of the top 5 picks(depending on what Warner wants to do) would pretty much set us up for the next decade.

Still prefer to keep both though.

There is a fair bit of draft capital floating around this year.

Tiges have their first and norths

Essendon has their first and Melbourne. Could see either or both going ass up.

Gold coast has collingwoods first which they can trade to a vic club

Saints have their first and will likely lose nwm.

Melb will have the picks they get for Pickett.

Problem is we lose Allan in that vic media will go full throttle on poor culture resulting in captain leaving.

Losing Allan means a must get of warner to dilute the hysteria.

Would be handy to get one or two other young players (not Darcy Cameron).
Alternative view is we got rid of the bad culture

We'd definitely get a monster deal for Reid, if he said he wants to return to Vic he'd have mega offers from 5+ clubs and they'd all be putting together the best deal for the Eagles.

Clubs aren't investing 10+ million on a player without knowing they'll need to pay up in draft/players capital.

If we had that many top picks id really be looking all over the comp for young WA kids(or anyone really) to trade for.
Split 1-2 of those picks and aim for Warner/Curtin/Rivers/Tholstrup/Sheldrick/E.Allan/D.Jones/Hardeman/Kozzy/N.Martin/etc to ideally take only 2 top 5 picks into the draft.
If we were unsuccessful then just use the picks but I wouldnt wanna put us back too far in the rebuild.

Hyper-speculation over player contracts has to be one of the worst things about following this sport in the modern era (probably most sports I guess).

Would be so great if we just got to watch footy and no one knew or cared about the players’ contract status or long term movements
Yeah this.

They also don’t even matter in the current landscape. Harley could sign a 6 year deal tomorrow and still request a trade next year.

Surely we just enjoy watching him play instead of bed wetting every 3 pages about him maybe leaving.

I'm not too fussed if Harley leaves tbh.

He's one player, who while very talented, doesn't look after himself that well, doesn't (maybe never will) run out games well and is maybe, possibly a tad overrated. Again, very, very talented player, but the hype is ott.

It's a massive risk to give him the cash we will need to pay, to get him to stay. We would a get a really good return for him and de-risk by not going all in on one man. If he gets a bad injury, becomes comfortable/complacent or doesn't become a perennial top ten player.....

That said I think re-signs

There are two full seasons to be played - in full - before he is OOC. We could be flying by then, and equally he could request a trade to someone this off season who is garbage in two years.
I’m soooo over the speculation Willy Wonty.

But from above, can he leave before the end of next year? It seems contracts aren’t worth much now - is that the same for draftees who get mandatory contract? Didn’t JHF break such a contract after one year?

Hawks might be. 7xrd2 and rd 3 picks equals pick 1, right?

He can leave if we release him from that contract but it would fly in the face of a lot of comments he made before and after he was drafted.

There is essentially 2 top ten picks and Martin on the table for WC if he wants to go to Essendon this year imo.
Can't see his value decreasing next year unless he has a major injury, also does he want to go to Essendon and who is offering more, these are the main questions along with who has the draft capital to make it happen.
If WC show improvement and Warner is playing for WC in 2026, I think Harley will sign through to FA with WC.
There is a significant offer on the table for this to happen imo.

We’re slightly snookered. I could see both Melbourne and Essendon miss finals and the incentive for doing something this year is next years draft is compromised by Tassie concessions.

But agree with your view that Warner coming would make Harley staying more likely. That unfortunately means an element of this is completely out of our hands.

WC are not snookered, they hold all the cards.
If Harley requested a trade end of this year, we either take the big offer from Essendon or whoever has the best deal in a raffle for his services.
If he doesn't his value increases next year if we hold him to his contract!

The 2 top 10 picks and Martin deal from Essendon is close to his value imo.
That's 3 picks inside top 10 and another around 12-13 tied to Hawks, lock in Warner with 2nd of Essendon's picks our F1st, Ward with our second round pick and draft 2 top 10 players with our 1st and Essendon's best pick best KDEF Curtin with Hawks pick.

Harley replaced with 2 top 10 mids(WC 1st/ESS 1st), best KDEF in draft with Hawks 1st, Warner, Ward, Martin, WC FS/NGA's job done.
