Its not rocket science what is going on.

He wants to stay, but with a contract more than what we are willing to offer him.

Other clubs are willing to offer him far more.

We would prefer the compensation for the trade when compared to the cost to keep him.

Exactly how it played out with TB

A similar but different scenario will play out with TK at the end of the year too.

Frees up list spots without losing any young talent, or senior depth they want to keep, also.

Except I can’t imagine too many suitors offering big money for TK

His family situation of wanting to move closer to family for support for his kids also a factor.

Although maybe less of a factor now they are older? Either way on current form his value is dropping by the day

Agree.

By similar but different, I meant it will be all lower end money stuff. But also number of years we would be willing to offer.

Expect him to head to Geelong for the last couple of years with not much coming back in return.

With Kelly's current contract off the books, and if we lose Allen, we are gonna have a serious 'war chest'.

Well.

I never thought I'd see Hitlers name mentioned when speaking about Oscar Allen, but here we are.

I don't think you know what compo you are going to get until after the deal is already done. There is no going back by the time you find out what the compo is.

Don't think this is correct.

Pretty sure North Melbourne asked the AFL whether Essendons offer for McKay would attract band 1 compensation, which the AFL confirmed. Hence, North didn't match the offer and force a trade.

It was on the basis of people say shit all the time, doesnt mean its true

If we don't get band 1, I assume we would just match the Oscar offer because it wouldn't be that big

100% we would.

Isaac Cumming was band 2 last year and GWS got pick 24. Doedee and Gresham were picks 27 and 28 in 2023. Huge difference between pick 1-5 and a pick in the mid or late 20s.

I would love to see the media reaction if WC match a free agency offer. I am assuming the onus will be on Haw/Bris/whoever to satisfy WC given they made a commitment to Allen. That's how it works right?

Seems like Sicily and Oscar a match made…..

Based on those numbers , I think it would be line ball if the Eagles get it finishing 18th this season.

If I am reading right:

* The Roos in the last 5 seasons before they got their priority pick , their average ladder position was (12+17+18+18+17)/5=16.4

* If the Eagles finish last, the average ladder position would be : (9+17+18+18+18)/5=14.4
The numbers you listed for west coast average is 16, but we finished 16th last year not 18th so the average is actually 15.6, not 14.4

What West Coast could do its threaten to match the offer, and ask for a trade instead. It's what Adelaide did with Dangerfield.

We would 100% match if it wasn't band 1, meaning Oscar would probably stay, unless he's more concerned with winning.

Haven't seen the Oscar interview. But hearing he didn't express inkling of staying.
It's easy to miss, but 48 seconds into this clip, the first question asked by a reporter, "Do you want to play at West Coast full-time, long term?"
Oscar, "Yeah, I do."
