How long have we got Flynn contracted for?
The biggest problem with the rucks we currently have is that none of them of even average. I reckon most other clubs have at least one or two better ruckman on their list, I haven't check but some probably even three.
It puts us behind the 8-ball from the opening contest.
Cameron is a good stopgap until (hopefully) some like Archer Reid comes on. I'm ok using a token AFL pick on Cameron, but I wouldn't use any of the picks we already own

Flynn’s contracted is irrelevant atm. Even if we found another ruck he would stay on as back up (if he wanted to)

Tom did say it is a watch if it triggers band 1 but believe it would as part of the AFL secret formula depending the injury update
This will be part of the AFL's priority measures for us imo. Even if Brisbane don't quite make the band 1 figure the AFL will fudge the numbers to make it band 1. Might get a token pick later on as well and told that's all the assistance we're getting so don't come asking for more

I admire your optimism pants, but I can’t see the AFL giving us anything other than a couple of extra rookie list spots

There’s a lot of heat coming on them re the inequities of the draft with picks being pushed back due to FA compensation and father-son/academy kids so adding a compensation pick to the mix isn’t going to be well received. Especially to a club that has had relatively recent (2018) success whilst clubs like St Kilda and Essendon, even Carlton to an extent, swim around in mid table purgatory

Yes, we’ve been historically bad for a 4th year in a row and have a decent case for some sort of priority pick(s) but I just don’t see it happening
yep

The people who are wanting Cameron must surely be Collingwood supporters , they would be laughing if they got anything for Cameron.
I suppose the eagles have really made some dumb trades in the past, this would be another one.

What type of cornflakes do you eat? Just wondering because obviously Cameron has shat in them the way you keep going on about him.

Also don't read into the rhetoric that the Eagles are pushing Allen out for pick 2, whilst he has a preference to stay he is very open to joining the Lions and joining a premiership contender. No sob story here.

100%.

Also i don't blame him chasing a flag.

Win/Win for all parties.

It's not really irrelevant, there's a big difference to him being out of contract this year or say 2028 isn't there?
Not too much imo. It’s not like we need his contract off the books and until we replace him as a starting ruck and probably get a back up that is better then Flynn he will be offered a contract

I wouldn't be extending him past his current contract. He can barely kick the ball and his ruck work is abysmal. He takes the odd handy mark around the ground but that's about all he's useful for

$4.5m should be enough to trigger band 1. It's very similar to what McKay got.

This is not how the FA compensation formula works.

It’s not the total value of the deal, it’s the average amount per year guaranteed with longer deals attracting additional points towards compensation up to 5 years.

The 6th year of Oscar’s supposed deal with Brisbane does not add any weight to the FA banding.

And Mckay’s contract was weighted against contracts in 2023. Two years later and a new CBA means the top 5% threshold required for band 1 compensation is higher than for McKay.

No idea what the contract value for Oscar is, but I don’t think a deal 750-800k will trigger band 1.

If that is the contract the AFL could override compensation if they chose to.

Thats my feeling as well.

I believe the Lions deal is actually the 850k mark, the Lions know they'll need to get us pick 2 or we'll match.
If it weren’t for his injuries OA is easily a million dollar player. Unfortunately, his injuries drop his value by 20%.

I still think for that price he’s a bargain

FA compo is such a joke.

If the AFL would just grow up and make salaries and salary caps public, all they need to say at the start of the year is a band 1 free agent salary is say 4 x years x $900k and be done with it,
Then it will get rorted.
