He played in round 2 last year, a little surprisingly, partnering Billiams when Flynn was out injured. It lasted a week (less, I think he was subbed out), he was replaced by Jilliams the following week.
I got him confused with Notte, didn’t I.

D’oh

Who friggin picked him and why ?

Livingstone was added to the Cat B rookie list at the end of 2023.

He was essentially the last player picked by us that year, cost us zero draft capital, was on the basest of base salary and that sat entirely outside of the salary cap

He’s probably doesn’t have the athleticism/talent to be an AFL level footballer but can probably carve out a career as a serviceable WAFL player. He also had a pretty good attitude and gave his best each week for the WAFL side

Ultimately he was a free hit who was worth giving a chance to. If we didn’t have 3 NGA players to add this year with more to come in 2026 I would be happy to give him another year

I’ll be sad to see him go if he does get delisted and whilst it’s unlikely, I’d love for him to continue playing for the Beagles

This may come as a shock, but
  • not every draftee makes it
  • that’s especially true for guys added to the Cat B rookie
  • it’s not apparent at draft time which players will make it and which won’t
  • a player not making it doesn’t automatically mean some recruiter has stuffed up and needs to have the finger pointed at them.

He certainly had a good crack in the indigenous all stars match. Knows how to find the goals in the WAFL too. I saw a interview with Jack Williams during last preseason and they asked him who he was most looking forward to seeing after the break, and he said Coen because he hadn't seen him at the club at all during the break. He seemed surprised and I get the impression that most players will still come into the club for training etc even during breaks, maybe Livo isn't ready to go above and beyond yet.

I mentioned a while back I wish more delisted players would stay on with the Beagles. And then I looked up the WAFL salary cap. $264,000 this year which is really low. Do you or anyone know how this works for the Beagles? We would be way over this cap obviously with our AFL players.

I can now see why more dont stay on, we probably can only pay them a crazy low wage (5K - 15K) for eg, where other WAFL clubs could pay them a fair bit more as marquee players.

Yeah Livingstone did well in the indigenous game and I believe beat Reidy. I had reasonable hopes for him after seeing that. Darcy and Jackson may have slaughtered him had they played but we didnt get to see him get that chance.

Our salary cap is 60% of the actual WAFL salary cap I believe

I think a lot of those ex-AFL types get given jobs at the club as a way to supplement their salaries. The bulk of the actual WAFL salary would have to go to our purely WAFL players

Players also want to win, footy isn't that much fun when you're getting thrashed each week.

That is why it would be nice to retain some of the delisted Eagles. As soon as we start getting injuries in the main side, the Beagles are no better than a colts side.

Due to the fact that Afl players are on a Afl contract the Beagles salary cap is adjusted to pay only non Afl players
2025 beagles salary cap was $171,080
2026 salary cap is $178,360
We have enough money to compete and pay delisted players a reasonable amount.
Hard to compete with South Fremantle who can play finals and win a premiership.

Cripps on 1 year deal vs pick 53 on 2 years.

I’d probably stay with Cripps.
I get we may miss out on an NGA kid, but if they are rated that low I don’t think we are actually missing much.
Nothing to stop the club from passing or trading the pick during the draft if that pick isn’t needed

Bombers apparently have eyes for CDT.

"The Bombers could do a deal with the Suns, which would see the Dons package up pick 21 and 27 for pick 15. The Suns have a bounty of Academy players in their sights this year, including Zeke Uwland and Dylan Patterson, so securing enough points for those players is high on their priority list.

If that deal did occur, the Bombers could then try and trade pick 15 and pick 5 or 6 to the Eagles, but it is believed the Eagles would be more interested in a future first-round pick."

Liking that last line. Really hoping we manage to get more picks in the top 10 next year.

5 & 6 (or a future F1), or GTFO.

Definitely encouraged by this news. I guess some might prefer to take a flier on a teenager but bringing in more mature bodies who are proven producers in the twos will help the Beagles development. I'm under no illusion that they're going to sign a bunch of types like Schoenberg/Dev/Blamries/Berry/Macrae and strike gold with all of them becoming productive AFL players, but you'll probably get one solid AFL contributor out of the group along with others who can fill in from the twos and not embarrass themselves, and when the senior side is pretty healthy they can go up against the good mids in the WAFL and provide more of a contest than a bunch of teenaged draftees and ammos.

I think a clean 2,13 for 5,6 is a very good deal for us even without the future picks involved.

Agree. Gets us the 3 top ten picks we want.

And South have done it without resorting to brown paper bags.
