2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Think Keys is right. Does stink of collusion. Pick 2 to us if we trade our pp to lions.
It’s the only thing that makes sense.

I thought our request for no compo dilution was a good one and as they’re considering it going forward the AFL obviously did too. Lions Allen offer must’ve been under the band 1.

Other teams will be pissed. Surprised no one in the media has called it out yet.

Meanwhile our ruck and small forward stocks are dire

** Fixed - Keys
Are you mad? Our small forwards are carried by Phil's parting gift - blOwies :rainbow:

Seriously though, i'd hardly call our small forward stocks dire:
  • Cripps (last legs)
  • Ryan (out the door)
  • Owies
  • Long
  • Brockman
  • Champion
  • Newton
  • Rawlinson

+ Wes Walley & Tylah Williams as NGA talent this year

We could always do a Geelong. From memory as part of the infamous Gold Coast deal they were supposed to give back a 2nd round pick but traded that out and gave a third instead

What’s to stop us reneging on the deal?

Why might Brisbane not be lodging the FA paperwork for Allen tomorrow when he announced his intention to pursue his FA options over a month ago and was openly talking about joining Brisbane at the Brownlow

The Starcevich trade will go through and then the Allen deal will get lodged

100% this - if we don't give up 19, we don't get 2, it'll be as simple as that. And we want 2 way more than Brisbane need/want 19. No different to Steve Hocking coming in changing all the rules to suit whatever Geelong needed, Swann comes in and immediately hands Brisbane an extra draft pick. Shame Nissy's competition committee spot never seemed to come to anything, we really need to work to get some of our ex-people involved in ALF house.

Then we bid on Annable with pick 1 or 2 just to be pricks.
Unless of course, it's all part of the plan for us to bid and Brisbane use the pick to match.

Can imagine it was probably one of the conditions of getting it in the first place.

Was surprising to me that we got handed a 1st round pick and now we know why. AFL just manipulating the trade period behind the scenes as per usual.
AFL in a grand statement: “the West Coast Eagles may use this pick in any way they please.”

Then AFL whispers in our ear:
You must trade it for Starcevic you useless cnuts.”

Pretty sure Rawlinson was delisted.

agree with all of your points, chill and wait for the trades to play out
This is what everyone said last season .

Then it was there is more to the trade than we can see .

Then it was wait to see the bigger picture

Great post. Particularly the second last paragraph. Like a government up for re-election every 3 years trying to save themselves.

If Dev comes as DFA then no dramas, but these bandaids at the expense of the medium-long term picture are appalling list management and reek of self interest.
2024-Pick 14
2025-Pick 19 (+pick ? for Young)

Its easy to criticise.

What you are both ignoring is our list has lost a hell of alot of senior experience and we are losing even more.

We only hold a couple of top picks to bring in high talented kids.

Kids need support, we have proved that and so have many other rebuilds.

And these role players being brought in cheap. Every premiership side has them. EVERY premiership side. Its how you build a premiership list.

What would you do. Just draft kids no matter what?

Who knows what the actual deal might end up being with Starcevich.

It might be Starcevich + F1 for 19 + F3 + No Annable bid, shoring up the Lions draft this year where they need points

Or they might have an iron in the fire for a mid-20s pick, and it's Starcevich + 26ish for 19.

Or it might just be 19 for Starcevich, and we don't care because we're not likely competitive during the Reign of the Lion.

19 is a good pick.

Lions need points not a good pick.

Will not be impressed if we burn 19 on Starcevich alone.

And Dev better not be the sweetener. He is worth a 5th rounder.

Brockman, Long and Champion are solid. Good pressure forwards with skills.

And yes, our NGA kids also have several small to medium forwards coming through.

Wirrapunda's kid also com8ng up in a couple of years.

Just using picks as currently allocated. 34 (hawks second) and 37 (held by blues given to us for Chesser) equals pick 23 in points. That’s close enough to 19 that Brisbane can have that given they want points.

That would be better than giving 19 straight up.

Really should just be 34 alone, but sounds like that’s not going to happen sadly

Nah it will be 19 for starcivich and Dev .

Makes it more palatable for the plebs that don't realise that dev wasn't getting a contract and has no trade value .

As others have said this is 100% AFL design .

Then next off season bottom 6 clubs will be able to lose FAs without getting their compo effected . Just in time for carlton and essendon to cash in

I know Starcevich is good and all, but can’t help but think we’re going about this the wrong way…..

Ginbey
Baker
Duggan (shit but we’ll keep playing him)
Allan
Hough
Starcevich
McCarthy
Not to mention Maric, Dewar and Greggo

That’s 7 mid or small size defenders plus the three others.
Maybe one of those 7 becomes a mid but even then the maths still doesn’t work.
Meanwhile our ruck and small forward stocks are dire, as our mids (harder to address though).
Watch us draft a Hbf in first round this year too.

*and just realised I’ve posted in the wrong thread

** Fixed - Keys
Duggan bench/forward. Allen midfield. Mccarthy baker pinch hit mid. Hough to play a tag role in mid some weeks.

Maric wing. Dewar wing forward. Greco starts developing as mid in WAFL.

Our defense is shit. What I see now is flexibility to throw around the magnets depending on opposition.

I just find it astounding, absolutely absurd, that after just losing 4 players to concussion, with McGovern only being months ago... Out of all the players in the AFL, we've honed in on Starcevich.

The next Angus Brayshaw/Mccartin story.

Absolutely could not script it. You think the media was sinking the boots about "It's their fault" previously, Gee whiz there's going to be no mercy after this if/when it blows up.

I keep seeing this reported over and over "WCE will offer up their assistance pick 19 for Starcevich....."

Like WTAF. Firstly, how about we "offer up" a chode and pick 52 to start?

We can then move onto pick 34 with no Anabelle bid. Before finally finally getting bent over and settling on pick 20 (after our pick 19).

Imagine skipping all of that and "offering up" pick 19 without even a modicum of playing hardball or negotiating anything. Hasn't happened yet but deary me that one would be talked about on this board for years.

34 plus a future 4th for Starc and Dev.

Thats being generous.

Brisbane want pick 19 so they can spit it themselves for points profit

Won't happen im of the opinion that we are going to get screwed again this off season .

Predictions

19 for starcivich + pick 50
34 for young
Dev will go on the rookie list as a DFA
F3 for chesser
F2 for ryan
No new ruckman

We will trade 17 and our 2nd for the TDK compo pick 11 and take farrow or Lindsay

1 Duursma
2 CDT
11 Lindsay or farrow
50 Banfield
52 williams/Evans

So no new ruckman (CDT isn't a ruckmans arseh*le)
No young mids apart from Banfield
