2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

We should definitely bid on both Uwland and Patterson but in all honesty, does anyone expect Gold Coast not to match. Extremely unlikely

It’s possible if they’ve used up their points for that pair they might not have enough for Addinsall so he might shake loose later. But they aren’t going to walk away from Patterson or Uwland
We won’t bid on either at pick one if we still hold it. It’s pie in the sky stuff again.

Very possible at pick 2 if we still hold that.

It's laughable to think that Gold Coast will leave themselves short on a Pick 1 and 2 bid for Uwland and Patterson. It's not going to happen. Their list manager isn't Matt Clarke.

Nah the other way around.
We know they will take Uwland no matter what as they have big bro at the club already and he’s the higher ranked player.

Will they pay 2700 for Patterson though?

They’ll know from the get go if they can afford both or not so they might be more inclined to let Patterson go if they can’t afford him and they get Uwland even cheaper as he won’t be pick 1.
It’s a scary time when the Gold Coast are something resembling a real club with good players and not the salary dumping perennial rabble of yesteryear

We won't bid on anything if we're the successful trade partner for pick 7.

Bidding on pick 1 and 2 will cost the suns
5481 -10% = 4932

If we don't bid and tigers do at 3 4
4140-10% = 3726

By us not bidding we save them 1206 points the equivalent of pick 11.

We have to be in the box seat.

So once the Allen compo comes in, it’ll be GC’s Pick 7 for our Picks 17 and 23.

Leaves Gold Coast nine points worse off, but it would also come with a promise of no bids which is the real carrot you’d say.

Get it done.

What if we throw in some picks in the 50s

We would need to chuck in the Hawks R3

Still - get it done

Don’t think it’s that straight forward.

They are in a position now where getting in some cream for their list is a greater need than more young talent that they have an abundance of.

Adding petracca likely will come at a big hit for them point wise (I expect pick 7 and Flanders capital to be demanded by demons) and don’t be surprised if that eventuates that it becomes well known that Patterson is gettable.

Further to this with suns not only entering 26 with contender aspirations but 27 moreso, they will not want to enter next years trade period in serious deficit. They will want to be able to have capital for trades to fill gaps.

If it comes to Patterson vs addinsall and no future deficit, don’t be surprised if gc prioritise the later.

Duursma measuring in at 193 and clocking a pretty good 2km time has me very keen.
Excellent overhead, floats over the ground, good transition player. Think he suits the modern game and complements our existing guys very well. Add in his comments about him being happy to move to Perth and I wouldn't be giving essendon or anyone else a look in tbh

Now with Pattersons comments I'm I'm dreaming about the Duursma/patterson combo.

Is there a world where we grab 7 from GC and sharp drops to that pick? Probably not, pipe dream stuff, but Duursma/patterson/sharp; that would be a banger of a draft

I found it hard to figure out what Duursma's comp was but then I saw an article recently saying 'Brendon Goddard like number 1 prospect' and was like God damn...that's exactly right. Same height, both positionless, can play anywhere on the ground, most likely start his career off half back/wing before he can build his body up enough to go through the middle...needs to work on his kicking under pressure apparently but other than that I was like Goddard...yes...without the flog-like tendencies.

My understanding is that both Maric and Hutchinson are now on the main list (along with Dewar which was mandated). That came from an informal discussion, not an official release.

The direction it’s heading in two bids on our kids and we lose one of them. More bizarre list management.
Insane that even with 4 extra rookie spots, we might still miss out on some of our NGA's. Still hopeful most won't be bid on, but do we delist a couple of players and re-rookie them later to make room on our main list just in case? Most likely Barnett, Owies and Johnston. In the unlikely event another club poaches them, it's no big loss.
In previous years, some would have expected a late bid on Dewar and Champion, but it never happened.

ATG you’ll be able to clarify - are they actually any better off at the pointy end in this version? The more I look at it the more it looks like their picks get absorbed on a Uwland bid from 3 onwards anyway?

Post Allen compo and hypothetical WCE trade they’d own 15, 17, 18, 23. (Points value 963, 839, 836, 653)

Uwland bid at 3 = 1960 to match.

963+839=1,802, so does it also consumer their next pick and send something back worth the gap?

Or if they can chip in elsewhere, is owning 18/23 better than owning their current hand anyway?

My one and only Dev comment: in the best team in the league for the last couple years, when he got his opportunity, very average player. How will he go in the historically worst team
A lot better, presuming he plays as an inside mid.

He never got that chance at Brisbane, he played as a defensive forward, which he's shit at.

Duursma is worth taking I think. He can just do everything, and will be a transition mid at worst long term.
Best case hes the next Bont.

Id rather trade up for a gcs pick or something to get Sharp/Cumming/Schubert if needed but imo not worth giving up Duursma.

If the trade was Duursma + our 2nd rounder for 5+6 I wouldnt do it rn.
Agree. Dursma is a gun!!

Going to be like releasing a bull into a paddock of cows after having to compete with Josh Dunkley for his defensive midfield spot.

I don't mind if Duursma is a flog. As long as he's our flog.

If Steele doesn’t want to come here I hope he refuses to be traded altogether, for no other reason than to stuff up the grand offseason plans of SOS and the sex pest.
'SOS and the Sex Pest' sounds like the title of a sitcom. Probably not one I'd like to watch, but one all the same.
