Worrying about the AFL telling us off for draft tampering by telling one of our NGA's to find a reason not to go to the combine so will be able to take him without worrying about other clubs bidding on him is weak. And that is obviously what has hapenned.

Do you understand that if another club bids on him in the top 40 of the draft then we don't get him? All the time and money and investment we have put in over however many years goes down the drain?

What should be more important to us as a club - getting a return on our investment or hoping the kid has a good time at the combine?
Yeh nah that was 2 yrs ago. Keep up

Without knowing anything about him Schrodinger's CV doesn't look great. Was delisted at end of last year, re-rookied and only played 1 further game.
Career average of 15 touches per game as a mid seems very underwhelming.
If we're just recruiting him to help our WAFL side, it would be a waste of spot.
Macrae's stats don't look great either.
But tbf, Dev's stats aren't much better...
Both only 10 touches a game.
I know we find it hard to attract talent, but I hope we're not bringing a lot of random players from other teams in just for the heck of it a la the Ken Judge era.
All these options look very meh.

In Devs defence , they didn't play him in the guts, he's not flashy , he is a meat and potatoes mid. Play a meat and potatoes mid as a half forward he will get you 10 maybe 15 touches. Play him in the guts you'll get 20+ and a 1/2 dozen tackles.

Why is there so much interest in Farrow after we now have Starcevich?

Ginbey, Baker, Hough, Allan, Starcevich, McCarthy, Grego, Cole, Duggan and possibly Duursma. That’s 10.

Do we really need more non KP defenders?
It’s because people think he’s “the next Jordan Dawson” when in reality he has virtually no exposed form as a midfielder, shies away from contact and doesn’t have great endurance + is slow (tbf so is Dawson haha)

In reality I think it’s very likely he’s just a good half back at AFL level, which is fine but not something we need.

I just don't see him as a relevant player for us. We need territory and that means stoppage, and forward half pressure.

I wouldn't discount Farrow from becoming a mid but it's highly speculative and I wouldn't trust us to be the club to let that happen.

Agreed. I’d be very disappointed if we took him over Dovaston who will be around the mark although I don’t think we’ll have pick 13 come draft night. We should be able to turn that pick 10 at worst.

do elaborate on who you would take instead?

Starcevich is quality. If he is able to remain on the park, we’ll have likely massively underpaid. In the end, in a weak draft, pick 22, which becomes closer to pick 30, is just fine for me.
Agreed, on ability. The contract situation is why we should’ve paid less. 22 for Starcevich in terms of real value is a win.

Happy to bring Swallow on. Won’t cost anything and at the very least will help the kids with training standards and game preparation. Only played 9 games this year and six were as sub so his legs should be reasonably fresh for a 32 year old.

As for today’s trade it’s nothing flash but it’s done.

The positive is it condenses a heap of points down into one pick for GC and with the two picks in the 30’s we should be able to get a deal done for 6.

This leaves Chesser for Young.

Now my burning question I can’t be bothered looking up.

Let’s say hypothetically we trade away all our picks but a few late ones and take 3 top ten picks…now a bid for Tyler Williams comes in and we don’t have the points to match.

Can we still since we have a live pick in the draft

A) quickly trade a future pick to secure the points needed to match

B) go into a deficit next year for him

If it’s B how does that work?

I would assume we are still bottom 4 so that’s

Pick 1 3000 points
Pick 2 2481 points
Pick 3 2178 points
Pick 4 1962 points

The difference between

1 & 2 is 519 points (between 25 & 26)
2 & 3 is 302 points (between 36 & 37)
3 & 4 is 216 points (between 41 & 42)

So let’s say with the 10 percent discount Tyler Williams gets a bid at 26 (561 points or 505 points after discount) does this mean if we finished last the points difference would still net us pick 1?

do elaborate on your preference at 12?
Will be 13 after allen compo will be 17 after Annabelle undwin patterson Dean bids .

At 17 in most phantoms you are looking at hibbins Hargrave, doverston , Oscar taylor , phillipou as your best options

Not sure what the issue is.

Pick 16 and 22 for pick 12. Win
Pick 23 for starcevich and 33. Win.

Other picks changed hands. Win

Where is the problem?

Apologies if someone has already done this.
After doing the sums with points value, and I know that is not everything, it seems we paid 699 points (the equivalent of pick #22) for Starcevich. I guess that is ok. Have I missed something?

Rosa’s comments that he had let both us and Richmond know that they are interested in moving up the board is pretty interesting. Suggests pick 2 could be a real option.

I think 2 and 13 for 5 and 6 is fair.

Going into the draft with 1,5 and 6 would be a real nice. The later picks leave for matching Williams, Evan’s and BB.

That’s a very nice outcome.

Will change a little when picks blow out, but should be around that in the end - maybe equivalent of a pick further out (25 ish?)

Was initially off Duursma but I'm actually pretty keen on him now. If we could swing sharp and Schubert or Cumming at 12 or Farrow if they dont get through match 1 or 2 NGAs the total trade/draft period looks pretty solid.

Bombers want CDT as well.

Trade 2 and F2nd for 5 and 6.

1. Duursma
5. Sharp
6. Cumming / Schubert
13 Farrow

1,2 & 7 is much better though.

If Gold Coast do not trade pick 6 (7) to Demons then I fully expect it to land with us on draft night.

Nope, haven’t missed anything that’s all correct.

Points value at about 22.

If you’re not points inclined, it means we’ve done the actual pick 22 for Starcevich and 16 for 12, 52, and a 10 pick slide in the second round.

Didn’t make out like bandits, didn’t get reamed, just did our business, got Starcevich in, kept the trade up with GC on the table, and grease the wheels for the Allen compo to get wrapped up properly and quickly from here.

Good day at the office.

Even if they do, they’ll have Pick 7 (8) in hand which they’re getting for Flanders.
