Priddis?

Do I hear a priddis from the gallery

Cmon ladies and gentlemen will someone start the bidding on a superb 2014 how much longer can matt priddis be played…..
One would think that after a few years of watching us get absolutely belted in clearances and possessions that some of the anti-Priddis brigade might have reconsidered the value that he provided to the club, but apparently this is not the case.

Hoping the two of the three big deals go down tomorrow, both of which would be good for us. The other one not so much.

Big deal and extension for Curnow ties up salary for Warner in 2028 and beyond ✅

Merrett leaving Essendon will give Essendon more flexibility to offer a big deal for pick 2 ✅

Petracca will mean we miss out on pick 7. For now. ❌

Prediction:
11, 32, F1, Hayward and Florent for Curnow, 22 and 54

7,8 for Petracca and 24, Demons pay 300k/year

Merrett stays at the Bombers and hilariously remains captain.

I was a staunch move Priddis on believer as many know.
I still believe it was the right thing at the time for that team.
I also believe we need him now more than ever.

Ive heard warner is coming in 2028

I really want to see the fallout from Merrett staying with the bombers. But I just cant see it happening. I at least hope the Hawks dont get their way with a low ball deal for him.

Merrett is worth more than Petracca.

I hope the hawks give up a heap for him but fail to win a flag.
Seems a ridiculous amount to offer for a 30yr old.

We did what?!!!!!!!!!!!
Food for thought…

Would the AFL gods have given us pick 2 for allen as compo plus the full assistance package if we had chosen Carlton’s picks instead of hawks?

We might actually be in a better position as a result of taking the hawk picks…

Almost end of trade week, thank ****.

Pick split that's probably already been done to death, but I've added hording Future R3's and Future Future R3's. The theory is that they're in that 40-50 range that can be used to trade in better depth players, or traded up. More is more.

Also theorising that because this is a shallow draft & the picks being traded, while currently top 10, are going to be shunted back more than normal by the top heavy NGA picks, the buying clubs need to offer a premium that the points index doesn't dictate pre-NGA matching.

Ess (Chasing W.Duursma)
Give: 5, 6, F3, FF3
Get: 1, F4

Melb (Chasing CDT, assuming they flip Petracca for 7 & 8)
Give: 7, 8, F3, FF3
Get: 2, FF4

WCE
Give: 1, 2, 53, F4, FF4
Get: 5, 6, 7, 8, Ess F3 & FF3, Melb F3 & FF3

Could leave us selecting:
5. Dyson Sharpe (Pick 9 after NGA/FS)
6. Sam Cumming (Pick 10)
7. Aidan Schubert (Pick 11)
8. Josh Lindsay (Pick 12)
13. Blake Thredgold (Pick 17)
Match: Tylah Williams
Match/Rookie: Charlie Banfield
Match/Rookie: Koby "Kobe" Evans
Rookie: Wesley "Where's" Walley

IS BACK!

They don't have anywhere near enough talent to win a flag. Making a prelim can be deceptive - makes you feel like you're one step away, but you're actually two (have to win a prelim and then a GF). Cats beat them comfortably and then got beaten comfortably by Lions.

Hawks absolutely stuffed their drafting during the rebuild and don't have depth of young talent. They've topped up with mature players but have 2 seasons max before they age out. Could easily do a Bulldogs and just bounce around mid table for a decade.

It’s pick 9 which will go out to probably 12 or 13, a future first round pick which will probably end up in the 20s, a future second round pick, and either Henry Hustwaite or a pick around 80 this year. I don’t blame Essendon for rejecting that for a guy who has won their best and fairest 6 times.

The problem that Hawthorn and Geelong have at the trade table is that everyone knows they’ll be very good the next year or two and there’s a massive difference between getting a first round pick from a team that sucks, like North or Richmond or whoever, and a team like Hawthorn or Geelong which will be playing finals and quite likely advancing well into finals.
Which ironically was Geelongs reason for being hard arse in the Kelly trade as picks in the 20s are very speculative. Around a 1 in 4 chance of getting a good player

I 100% agree with this. But I also thought we should of taken the hawks picks instead of carlton

I hope they blow two drafts on Merrett.

If it doesn't work then yep, 2 to 3 years time they will miss not using all those 1sts on long term players.

Then continuing recycling and have a good year now and again but never really contend.

Whats not to like.:$:);)

Yeah but while Priddis ball hunted, Shuey copped the attention. Shuey bursting from clearance was our biggest weapon. He could hit a leading forward off either foot. Pridda just hack kicked forward and got burnt in transition after turnover. Just couldn't run with the other mids. He got the most out of his ability though. Patrick Cripps is in the same boat now but he can at least pinch hit in the Ruck.

Clubs need to be very careful if they include any 'good faith' clauses.

Anti-Collusion Measures: The AFL explicitly prohibits agreements between clubs that undermine the draft or trade process, including any form of bidding collusion. During the trade period and draft, every executed trade triggers an AFL review via an online meeting with list managers. They are questioned about potential links to other trades or "bidding agreements" to detect side deals.

This was strengthened in recent years to block "potential bidding collusion," particularly around high-profile prospects like father-sons.
I thought this was common knowledge but the number of lop-sides trade scenarios I’ve seen on here that end with “and a promise not to bid on…” like it’s a bargaining chip we can openly throw around, would suggest otherwise.

Im not trading pick 1, I dont think 5+6 is overs enough to get it off us

I think, and I mean this genuinely, the only way we trade pick 1 is if we commit to also trading pick 2. Being left with pick 2 means CDT or “reaching” for Sharp. It’s gotta be someone trading up for CDT or to secure their preferred player in a Robey, Grlj, Cumming, etc. If Essendon specifically want 1 then I say they have to help us go get 7 and 8.

Keep 38 on the books in a break glass in case of emergency bid on Williams. Trade 1, 2, and 13 and end up with 5,6,7,8 and future assets as well. Gotta pay overs and gotta commit to both. If we’re willing to give up Duursma then bin off CDT as well.

1, 2, 13 -> 5, 6, 7, 8, MEL F1, ESS FF2

Now we've got our big fish on the hook in Dev, who's the next mature age recruit?

I'd probably have these guys in this order, but probably only excited about the first two tbh.

Ted Clohesy
Tom Blamires
David Swallow
Finlay McCrae
Harry Schoenberg
Oskar Smartt

I think we have to be prepared to pass on RObey at pick 2, seems like its Robey VS CDT for pick 2 right now if there was any competition for CDT.

Im not so sure id prefer 4 picks from 5-8 over picks 1+2+13 tbh

Tbh im just not that keen on Sharp either, not convinced we need him.

There is a big lesson here on drafting and trading for sustained success.
Hard to replicate BRI when they have several FS guns and Academy guns that just keep coming.
The new matching rules will make this very much harder from here on.

BRI have the best midfield in the AFL and its stacked with young talent to keep them in the window for another 5 years.
HAW pulled the rebuild early having only 7 best 22 since they went full rebuild in 2020.
Every other part of their team was traded in over that time to where they are now.

The part I am making is draft high end talent until we have a best 25 bedded down in a couple of years and add the other bits too it.
We probably have 15 players in the young group 75 games and under that will be there for our next premiership.

When we added another 10 to that group by drafting and moving on/delisting players that don't make it we will have the team to take us to finals, then add the Warner's and company of the world in 2027 and beyond.

Our midfield can't be too full of players with our top end picks, add the other pieces with 2nd round and deeper and NGA/FS prospects and that the recipe for sustained success longer than our previous Premiership imo.
