2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Ah Chee is worth far more than Ryan. Played almost every game since 2020 apart from injury in 2023 and missed half the season. Performed in finals, if we can get him to replace Ryan for free via the PSD it would be a huge coup.
hope so but reckon adel get their man.

Also can't really compare playing for Bris and WCE the last 3 years chalk n Chesser

Why trade though? We could literally do the groundwork between now and PSD to sweet talk him, pay him overs etc etc

No trade required here. Genuinely
I don't see it getting that far

Especially when we're horsehit. Once we improve we can take the more high risk high reward picks.

I don't want to spend 10 years on the bottom cos we keep taking risks that blow up in our faces on the off-chance one works out.
Andrew McGrath is a name I've been thinking about in this context. If you picked him #1 overall like Essendon did you're probably disappointed that you didn't end up with a star-calibre player, but at the end of the day you've still got a very solid 200+ game player. You're right, if you have top of the first round picks and you end up with a guy who is a complete non-contributor that really is a massive setback to the rebuild.

Me neither but at the same time we aren’t Ah Chee’s preferred landing point. If Brisbane do decide to draw a line in the sand (which would be so naive), our strongest play is to PSD it. Our only real chance

Just don’t make the interest clear until after trade deadline, then no one can play the shit blokes PSD card and we keep our nice guy image. Just trump the Crows Ofer with a front loaded contract and take him.

+200k, Ryan and Pick 50ish 2027 for STK F2 and replaced with Ah Chee?

First trade win in years.

Hope we view any ruck prospect through lens of the future rule changes:
  • No bounce
  • Focus on removing the wrestling element to allow rucks to leap and tap.
How's CDT's leap?
Was that info ever published?

I've asked a couple of times now if he could be a defender at the next level. He's quick for his height, he's agile, he's seems like a decent ball user, he's good below his knees, he gets to the ball very well. He doesn't look like a good mark though, nor does he look like a ruckman.

What stood out to me watching Tylar Young's highlights was his closing speed. If that's what we see in CDT, we select him. If we think he's a ruck or forward, we trade the pick and draft someone else.

If we want a kpd with good closing speed Thredgold is available and won't cost pick 2.

That’s 100% my play here also. Don’t get involved in the main trade, but if it falls apart then we pull out a crumber’s sneak

Has Tylar Young made any comment about why he wanted to leave Richmond and come to us? He is not from WA and it's not like he wasn't getting a game at Richmond.
Not that I’ve seen but I safely presume it’s the McQualter link with the good word of Baker and Graham on top of good money
The fact he’s not from Melbourne helps, as it isn’t like he’s leaving home

Better opportunity as he was competing with a few for spots at Richmond behind Balta and Miller

Three year deal

Good relationship with McQualter who replaced Hardwick as interim coach at Richmond in Young’s first year. Same age as Baker and Graham also so had friendships with both of them

Clarke was the recruiter at Richmond who drafted him

Working with Gov and Harry Taylor to learn from

We were able to sell him a good story of being a mature aged player helping to bring a young developing group along

I mean all players we use these rookie spots for are going to have fatal flaws.

Personally I love the idea of picking up:
  • some discarded mids from clubs with stacked midfielders
  • top state league players who might be able to translate their games to AFL.
Worst case they never make it at AFL level but are good people, bring strong AFL-level training standards and make our WAFL team instantly better - our final WAFL games this year with Gross being the only recognised mid on our AFL list was a J.O.K.E. We can't develop young players in the WAFL in an uncompetitive team.

Best case they become solid role-players in the AFL within our midfield structure, leveraging their best attributes while buffering their flaws in other areas.
This.
That's why Clohesy/Blamires/Berry would be the ideal group and potentially 2 by putting a player like Cripps on the rookie list who only has 1 more year to play and we then have an extra position to add 2 and find out who is worthy of continuing with.

Is Robey not a risky pick? What is his rise based on? His last month of football was excellent but it's come out of nowhere and was against other kids from a supposedly weak draft class.

CDT was ranked highly at the start of the year, looked reasonably solid throughout the year, had a decent VFL outing and did well at the combine.

Out of these two, it's CDT all day for me.
Where does CDT play at the next level? He wasn't close to a dominant ruck at u18 level so he will be miles off it at AFL and we're stocked with better tall forwards.

Can see him being in and out of the side and failing to hold down a position and eventually requesting a trade back to Melbourne.

Better off trading for a stop gap next year and aiming to get Axel Walsh who's a far better ruck prospect and from WA
