Gotta take CDT. Looked at his video minutes, and he will be a gun, a beast. For all those that said he can't mark or ruck, what nonsense. He is a sound mark and his tapwork was on point. He is too good not to take with pick 1 or 2. Every mock has him at either 1 or 2.

Take your pick, either will be able to arrange an eye test for you.

The way the game is going, transition football is essential and Tom Mitchell is not capable of that (and would only get worse). There's a reason not a single team has displayed interest.
I’d agree with the way the game is going away from the sort of footballer he is- but I would also make an argument that the elite preparation and dedication to his craft won’t ever be not useful. I think we have recruited the types that will inevitably succeed in the game but there’s only so far you can go on talent alone.

I think we can go down the line of picking extra rookie spots on our NGA players or speculative picks and that’s okay. But think we do need an older hand in that too to guide our younger crew to continue to build the standards across the group- and would be more keen on him than Swallow, personally.

I see what you mean, and he probably isn't interested in coming here anyway, but on a base contract I wouldn't be too opposed. I still be sceptical that he can contribute on-field.

Asked at last month’s draft combine which player he’d take if he had Pick 1, Jevan Phillipou told foxfooty.com.au: “I’d pick myself. That’s not arrogance, that’s just confidence in my abilities.

“I would take myself, just because of my all-round athleticism and my dual-sided kicking. I’ve got really good skills and I’ve got smarts as well … I feel like I can be utilised straight away. I’m very versatile.”

Old mate drank his own bath water.
His brother said the same thing, and so did Elijah Hewett iirc.

Anyone know if he has re-signed yet or is he out of contract after next year
He’s OOC, if his manager is any good I
wouldn’t expect an extension until at least after the bye next year to see where JUH fits into the pecking order. If he gets his shit together it’s a long road to get past him and King whilst also competing against Read who can also ruck and run all day.

Ive heard rumours through a mate who has spoken to Jed Walter on ig about going to WCE and he has said We'll see.
Good mates with Tom Berry maybe Clarke is ahead of the game.

Let’s play this out, I think he will be a star and if he is keen no doubt we go down that path and it will cost us our first round pick next year.Does make for an interesting draft this year and mids even more a priority.

Neale is a FA next year and likely getting heavily nudged out of the midfield for 2027. More likely to return to Freo imo if he was to leave but could be offered an out of $$ to come to the Eagles.

A long way out but projecting who would be on the wish list and who the list team would be working on. Not many would’ve predicted Graham, Owies and Young as recruits over the last couple of years but ill have a guess at who they are looking at.

Recruitment/Draft
2026- Walter, Neale, Kenh*, McGlade*, H Banfield*, Axel Walsh* (mini draft) other

OOC options Ed Allan, Humphries, Davies, Buss, Sellwood.

2027- Warner (rfa), Rivers (rfa)

OOC- Fonti, Co Warner, Georgiades (rfa)

Ruck is a worry, need to find someone and Barnett to take a huge leap.

isn't Barnett 204cm and athletic?

just saying.
If you had only seen Barnett’s last quarter of footy against Swan Districts this year he’s the most talented footballer in Australia not getting a game of AFL currently and it’s not even close.

Unfortunately I’ve seen the other 80 odd quarters of rubbish he dished up for the year.

I don't think looking at his best ruck moments in a highlights package is a great assessment of him as a ruck. He was absolutely garbage against anyone other than 18 year olds in the last 12 months. Marking is fine without being spectacular. Has struggled in front of goals but is a pretty good field kick. Our rucks stink and even so I think purely from a ruckwork point of view he'd be behind Flynn and Reid.

In the forward line (set shots and forward craft) he'd be behind Flynn and Jack Williams.

Marking around the ground he's behind Flynn Reid and Jack Williams.

His point of difference is that he's a very tall midfielder with good endurance. His ceiling is Blicavs in my view. Likely outcome is probably closer to Bailey Williams with better mobility and stamina and a worse jump at the ball.

If we weren’t interested in Steele then we aren’t going to be looking at Mitchell

He’s 32, same age as Neale but unlike Neale is no longer playing good football. Lost his place in the Collingwood side to Ned Long

There are better options to fill that last place on our list

Hey if we stuff this draft should know by 27/28 do we blame it all on Clarke or do we blame it on Isabella Lewis who is helping out with recruiting? Seriously though I think this is a great idea the AFLW program is back in finals contention and if we can get any cross pollination between programs the better.
Eagles' co-captain is looking at finals and beyond - to the men's draft - https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1442411

Blame it on Todd Nisbett since he’s the one mentoring her

potential draft hauls for 25 and 26 (based off team needs + minis game style)
i thinks it very important to look at 26 now, to find out who we should draft

List needs
1. Inside Mids (speed, ability to play in and out, transition and defense)
2. Ruck
3. Small forwards (X factor, Defensive pressure, scoreboard impact)
4. Outside mids
5. Key Defenders

25 draft hand with trades (Trade pick 2 for Melbourne's 7 and 8

1 Willem Duursma (projects to be a inside mid at afl, provides us with speed, ball use, and transition through the midfield)
7 Sam Cumming (inside mid, provides us with defensive pressure, the ability to play in and out, speed, and can extract the ball. Similar to Andrew Brayshaw)
8 Lachy Dovaston (small forward, provides defensive pressure, scoreboard impact and the ability to go up the ground)
13 Harley barker (wing, elite speed, takes the game on, strong mark, and defensive pressure)
Tylah Williams (small fwd, speed, defensive pressure, evasiveness and hard running)
Charlie banfield (wing, strong overhead, hard runner, ball use and a big game player)
Wes Walley (small fwd, x factor, goal sense, and a strong mark)

needs addressed in 25 (inside mids, small forwards and outside mids)
eagles dont address other needs due to next year having way better talls

26 draft (eagles also split there first round pick due to the strong tall talent in the draft)

first split pick, akri butler (mid, goal sense, good below the knees and overhead, decision making and evasiveness)
second split pick, Kale Matthews Hampton (key def, 198cm, good aerial ability, elite left foot, and transitions the ball)
WCE second round pick, Benji Van Rooyen (ruck, 203cm, WA)
WCE NGA Garrison Kenh (half back)
WCE NGA David Shanahan (Key Defender, 196cm)

needs addressed in 26 (Key defenders, ruck)

Tom Mitchell would be ideal as a rookie for a year or two.

He’s an elite preparer, can find the ball in the contest despite his size and although perhaps not the quickest has so much midfield experience that we just genuinely lack at present.

Like Starcevich has been around elite premiership winning teams as well which only be a good thing for our younger crowd. I feel like we could do a lot worse with one of our 4 extra slots. I get the feeling we want someone a bit younger but we could do a lot worse- he’s a known quantity.

Selling him coming over with a newborn on the way might be a hard sell, but could dangle a coaching opportunity as well.
Nah, bloke is slow as shit. He's won one flag, we've got plenty of those guys on our list already/coaching from 2018. Hard pass for me.

If there are 5-6 very good ruck prospects in 2026, including a couple from WA, why would we go for a ruck in 2025 who can't even win the ruck battles at U18 level and has a poor vertical leap?

CDT may be a super athlete who may find a position at AFL level, but there are quite a few ahead of him in the needs queue for me.

I started the year as the biggest CDT hater, I wanted no part of gambling on him, but he won me over and I think many on here are in denial about how special of a prospect he is.

Look at every single one of his isolated actions, nearly every one is incredibly positive, he has lightning quick hands, can kick on both sides, kicks goals from 55 metres on the run, he’s a superb link up player and is so dangerous aerially, once he gets more strength he’ll be borderline unstoppable in the forward line because of how rapid his first few steps are, as proven by his combine results.

The ruck position has changed and will continue to change with the new rules coming in, having multiple dynamic rucks who can play across the ground, run all day and act as extra midfielders will be like gold.

Also, his tap work is very good, the reason his hit out numbers aren’t amazing is because he stopped rucking for large parts of games to focus more on his forward craft.
