I'd love a Phillipou/Hewett combo BUT next year's draft is probably stronger. Moir (or Mwah according to that assclown commentator) looks like he may be a read KPF contender. And there will likely be others.

I don't like our chances of coming better than 12th.

  • This new style of play will take a few years to master.
  • We still have transition issues at the back. Guv, Barras, and Bazzo look solid as the 3 talls. But we don't have a Jetta like player who can carve up a defensive forward line by foot. That's what we're trying to do right - transition the ball through the corridor to break the lines.
  • Culley, Chesser, #2 draft pick will take time to get up to speed. Be AFL able is one thing, but competing with experienced oppo midfields is another.
  • JK is gone. He's still kicking 2 per game and being marked by one of the best defenders.
  • Midfield is still a massive issue. Maybe NicNat gives us first use of the ball - but opposition shark it all the time. Will Sheed make a difference? Maybe in a handful of games.

I still have us bottom 4. Maybe we win 5 or 6 games. It's possible to finish higher than 12th but the odds aren't favourable IMO.

I reckon we be patient and see who we can draft next year. We're going to need a KPF in the next 2 seasons. The opportunity may arise next year.

    • I like Jones off half back, think we've found something there. Needs to clean up his usage a little but given he was thrown back for the first time half way through the season not bad. Think Yeo could be moved back a lot more if we have Culley, Phillipou, Hewett, and a fit Shuey, Gaff, Kelly, Redden, Sheed in the midfield options. Think that would speed up the transitions a lot

    • Question is whether we'll be decimated in the midfield again, can we back in SHuey (13 games), Gaff (13 games), Kelly (14 games), Yeo (5 games), Sheed (1 game), Nic Nat (5 games) to play collectively a higher % of total games. I think that would be reasonable, and enough to carry our midfield to acceptable levels.
  • JK is gone. He's still kicking 2 per game and being marked by one of the best defenders.
    • We have Oscar Allen coming back, Rioli should be better, Ryan hopefully doesn't miss as many. Darling actually has a preaseason.
  • Midfield is still a massive issue. Maybe NicNat gives us first use of the ball - but opposition shark it all the time. Will Sheed make a difference? Maybe in a handful of games.
    • See above.
I think ultimately given a reasonable run of injury and not completely melting, we should never be that far off the top 8, given the Perth home ground advantage.

Don't discount young Luke Edwards for the midfield mix next year.......Culley Edwards Chesser #2 pick in the midfield...looks okay for the future

GC AFAIK are looking at only taking 3 selections so will be aiming to use their current picks to move up the draft board.

In regards to Twomey he knows **** all and watches **** all.

Also that is his Phantom form guide which is just players he likes mainly based off of statistics, not who will go where or where clubs see players. He is becoming more and more like a clickbait journalist and throws some names in significantly odd positions.

He is in touch with recruiters and scouts however he tends not to get anything near close to right until close to the draft. Once we're a month out he starts getting more and more information from clubs and puts most of it together particularly in the last couple of days.

I actually see him getting it really close each year just before the draft until someone swings a curve ball live trade which then completely changes everyone's order.

I have 1 more champs game to watch at the game this year and that will likely have my final bearings on how I rank all the players. Things still change so quickly and so much from here that a mock draft now is like pissing into a gail and hoping nothing splashes back on you. Pointless, futile and likely to just make yourself covered in piss.

At that point I will put in who I want us to draft but my ranking list won't be public. I may be able to post it after the draft.

Anyone thinking Ginbey is going top 10 in the draft at this stage is downright delusional. I'd consider him for 20/26 if we ended up with a smaller mid like Wardlaw with our first etc.

So much to go on with trade week as well. Particularly if Grundy, Taranto and Hopper all move. McStay seems as good as gone and thats likely an end of first round pick to Brisbane if the numbers being bandied around are on the mark. De Goey you would think has to move and again probably an end of first round compensation pick.

GWS real problem is they have 4 guys who between them are taking up roughly 4 million in salary cap space and they want to keep a lot of their youth and it's hard to see anyone taking on some of those contracts. Similar to us trying to move Gaff.

Re Twomey's phantom draft

I think Phillipou will go top 5 still. 5 days from being eligible for next years draft and lots of desirable AFL traits.

At this stage i'd still take best available with pick 2 however a pick swap that got us either pick 5/6 Clark and McKenzie/Tsatas or Pick 5/11 Clark/Hewett/Gibney could also be good to rejuvenate the midfield.

Tsatas could be a bit a of smokey for our pick as well, has a lot of traits the Eagles look for in a player, two way running, good kicking skills, seen a few people say he has a pretty good contested side to his game as well.

I think it's still best to go for Phillipou/Wardlaw with pick 2 but i think there is a genuine chance to slide back a few picks for another first rounder.

So who's the trade target and #2 pick flavour of the week so far?

Apparently Phillipou for Pick 2 (because he's young? And any poor performances are waved away by South Australia deliberately sabotaging him so their own clubs can get him for cheap :drunk: ) and Meek from Freo because Melbourne won't need a ruckman after handing Jackson over.

While looking to take a limited number of picks I was under the impression they need to push a heap of points into next year as have two top picks coming through their academy that they need picks for?

I'm definitely not delisting Rotham, loved what he showed on the weekend and recon the moves a brilliant one, hope to see more of it.

Yes it was an interesting move. Some on here are still in disbelief that Simo tried something different.

He also has mentioned he wants to trial Barrass forward. If Gov was playing it would be happening.

Hopefully he keeps trying things and challenging the playing group. :clapping: :thumbsu:

Havent read that about Tsatas at all.

He is fast, more outside, needs to improve kicking under pressure but is line breaking and can get a fair amount of ball.

Defensively not as hard as others. That is what Ive read.

If he was as you described he'd be the standout #1 pick.

Naish - Delist
Dixon - Delist
Strnadica - Gone
One of Trew/Clark/West - Delist
Joyce - Delist
Winder - Try across half back or Delist

Sheppard - Gone
JK - Retire

That's around what i'd want to see gone at end of year.

I expect to grab a mature ruck on the merry-go-round, then 3-4 main draft picks and a couple of rookies.

I don't think we should get another mature ruck. If we want to draft a younger ruck (either an 18yo, or anyone 21yo or younger if there are state league options) then sure. But we were far too ruck-heavy this season and we should not look to replace them all (especially with Williams and CJ showing a little this season, plus an additional pre-season under their belts).

Obviously if B Williams or CJ were to move over the trade period they would need to be replaced.

But assuming we keep both of them: Nic, BWilliams, CJ with coverage from JWilliams, HEdwards, Rotham is plenty of ruck options (with a likely/potential young draftee added).

There's talk about him getting more time on the ball and being more balanced - but it's just talk. I think the recruiters know that elite bulls are top of the food chain and elite balanced mids just below. I don't think recruiters in this day and age will spend a top 6 or 7 pick on an outside mid.

I'm hoping North don't trade down their pick so they can take a KPD/KPF ie Busslinger or Cadman and instead draft Sheezal to fit a need I50.
I still want Warlord. I know he hasn't played a few games and has dropped down a few spots on most peoples board but everything I read says hes explosive, powerful and has hard attack on the ball (Kerr like maybe?).
We can go for some x-factor or polish next year, Right now I think an explosive in and under player would be perfect. Means Yeo can stay on the HBF and provide run from the backline. We've looked much better with him running out of defence.
Culley although tough and tackles, doesn't look like he'll provide that burst from the middle.

I’d say it’s way to early to suggest that.

If we could get Matt Crouch for basically nothing, would he be worth a punt

he's good enough but we need to rebuild our defence, specifically how we move the ball. I'd be asking him to retire so we can start experimenting. If that means going a little bit backwards, I'm happy to take the better draft pick that goes with it.

I'd like to see him more as a "player/coach" role, smart to get him off the soft cap, and can chip in with the backup role perhaps? He wouldn't be on big coin i don't believe.
