Is that not what you do in a rebuild, cut the bottom end of your list, retire a veteran or two and go again?

Outs:
JK
Shep
Nelson
Witherden
Strnadica
Joyce
Winder

At minimum, all replaced by draftees. Plus decisions to be made on Dixon, Naish, Trew (I would be moving on Dixon at a minimum, probably Naish too).

Yep, we'll need to make 6-10 changes. That's plenty in one hit.

If we cut Shuey, Naitanui and Redden (contracted) are we really in a better position in 2023? These guys aren't going to be around for years, but if we're not playing guys like Trew, West, Clark now I don't know if we ever will.

Would we consider James Brayshaw to replace bunga over next few years. Only 26 and we could offer 3 year deal on good coin and cost nothing in picks.
We're at the stat of a rebuild. We need to use the draft. If we can pick up a young potential on the way (i.e. Dev Robbo), that's great, but anyone who is 25, forget it.

Draft, build, improve, then fill in the gaps.

Matt crouch has been told by nicks that he wont be offered another contract after the current one runs out.

Has 1 year to go, we may be able to get him cheaply as an extractor to guys like chesser/culley, or to injury prone?
No. Why do we want Matt Crouch when we're specifically trying to draft a player better than Matt Crouch (at the same position).

Nicks is trying to rebuild and he's worked out Crouch is slowing the rebuild. There's another team for him, it's not us.

Bung to go around again, wouldn't be to disappointed but isn't it a good time to hang up the boots?
Or am I way off the mark?
he's good enough but we need to rebuild our defence, specifically how we move the ball. I'd be asking him to retire so we can start experimenting. If that means going a little bit backwards, I'm happy to take the better draft pick that goes with it.

Get rid of Trew, West, Naish, Strnadica, Kennedy, Sheppard, Witherden, Joyce, Nelson.

Move Clark and Langdon to Rookie list

Dixon hangs on by a thread as both KF/Ruck cover (he should get games as a key forward next year)
Winder is given 1 more year playing midfield in the WAFL to see how he comes along (he is a midfielder and should be given a go there)
Rotham spends the summer and WAFL playing wing/midfield to see if we can salvage him to see if he can become the AFL level player I know is in there (he may want out anyway)
Foley has next year to make it as a defender / wing
Luke Edwards has next year to prove he can come back from injury and needs to be ahead of Exxon and a few others by end of next year.
Play SPS as a mid or not at all

Gives 5 main list spots meaning we can choose whether to just take the 4 MD options or a fifth if someone we still rate is there or for that 5th to be used on a rookie/SSP

Jack Williams needs to spend almost the entire summer with a sprint and agility coach. You can only improve these things slightly but they are the only things holding him back from becoming a decent quality AFL player in my mind.

Then we have any potential trades which I don't see netting us much and as much as i'd like to remove Gaff's contract I don't see him moving on unless really pushed with us paying half the bill. We would have to be very lucky.

Add Phillipou and Ryan and then hopefully the run on talls is still there for our 3rd and maybe 4th pick. Barnett and Spicer hopefully.

It's not as many coming in as people would like but it's a shallow draft and we will make further deep cuts in the next 2 years.

TBH if we can afford to pay out Langdon i'd just get rid of him.

For end of 2023 you already have the 6 listed up top fighting to stay on the list plus retirements and almost certain delists of 2 or all of Clark, Langdon, Exxon.

Geez twomey has ginbey at 10 in his phantom!!
Gonna be hard to get him now

On SM-G973F using BigFooty.com mobile app
I saw that too.

I really want Ginbey but no way should we be remotely considering him at our first pick.

Hopefully he slides to one of our second rounders 🤞🏻🤞🏻

It's hard to work out whether Twomey is way to Vic centric in his mock or Vic (given their carnival dominance) just have that many of the top players.

It's interesting isn't it, compare that to Knightmare who I think is SA based and he's been big on Phillipou as his number 1 prospect all year

I don't follow the draft too closely, but watching Phillipou's highlights it's hard not to think he's going to be an absolute gun. That extra height over someone like Wardlaw just gives so much more flexiblity.

Wardlaw a safer pick as i have no doubt he'll pump out 25+ touch seasons year after year. Just do we hope for more?

Anyone know the name of Gilbey's Dad? I reckon I played against him when I was a junior. He played for Woodlands with a guy called Kyle Manchester who I think played a few games for Claremont.

How would we feel about trading next year's first rounder to GC for their first rounder this year?

They need lots of points next year for their academy kids so may be interested.

The gamble is that we can finish better than 12th next year. I don't think that's unreasonable if we have a reasonable run health and injury wise given our home ground advantage.

This would enable us to pick up Phillipou, Hewett (or equivalent mids with two first rounders), sliding Ruck/KFF, sliding mid, (with our two second rounders).

Gives us a jump start on the refresh. Could even hold off on the trade and only make if Hewett (or our target) is there.

I'd love a Phillipou/Hewett combo BUT next year's draft is probably stronger. Moir (or Mwah according to that assclown commentator) looks like he may be a real KPF contender. And there will likely be others.

I don't like our chances of coming better than 12th.

  • This new style of play will take a few years to master.
  • We still have transition issues at the back. Guv, Barras, and Bazzo look solid as the 3 talls. But we don't have a Jetta like player who can carve up a defensive forward line by foot. That's what we're trying to do right - transition the ball through the corridor to break the lines.
  • Culley, Chesser, #2 draft pick will take time to get up to speed. Be AFL able is one thing, but competing with experienced oppo midfields is another.
  • JK is gone. He's still kicking 2 per game and being marked by one of the best defenders.
  • Midfield is still a massive issue. Maybe NicNat gives us first use of the ball - but opposition shark it all the time. Will Sheed make a difference? Maybe in a handful of games.

I still have us bottom 4. Maybe we win 5 or 6 games. It's possible to finish higher than 12th but the odds aren't favourable IMO.

I reckon we be patient and see who we can draft next year. We're going to need a KPF in the next 2 seasons. The opportunity may arise next year.

I'm definitely not delisting Rotham, loved what he showed on the weekend and recon the moves a brilliant one, hope to see more of it.
