Nah just like norf and GWS the are afl funded just for extra games for the broadcast deals . They dilute the quality of the competition.

They also a feeder club for when mommy's boy Victorians want to go home at a discount.
We need a national comp so we just need to deal with it while their supporter base builds.

Many a-sporting team on the Gold Coast has died waiting for their supporter base to grow. All this one needs to be killed off is for an AFL CEO to decide that the money brought by the extra game is less than the running costs of the Suns and Giants.

From GWS' end though loosing Taranto (or Hopper) and their first round pick for whoever they would get at pick 2 would be a massive net loss.
Callahan will soon fill the void, hopefully we’re reaching the end of this merry go round of them being able to trade out surplus quality footballers for high picks based on their initial draft concessions.

Green (pick 3), Callahan (pick 3) and sheezel/phillipou (if we were to trade 2) would be quite the future midfield to look forward to post Josh Kelly considering they only recently attended a GF.

Yes and then they wont be able to afford to pay them all

Hopper is. He’s been injured this year but he’s legitimately good.

Not pick 6 good.

He's a big inside mid who doesnt kick goals and plays one position only.

Plus he's been injured AND is a rfa in 2023. Wait 12 months, if fit you get him for nothing as GWS will continue to have cap issues until those massive contracts are gone.

Would we consider James Brayshaw to replace bunga over next few years. Only 26 and we could offer 3 year deal on good coin and cost nothing in picks.

I am sensing Hurn will go again, Nelson is bound for Victoria and JK retires. Redden, Shuey, NicNat and Rioli are also out of contract and I sense they will also go again.

We currently have 37 on the main list (assuming Sheppard gone) and 8 rookies for a total or 45). We can have a maximum of 38 on the main list for a maximum of 42. The younger main list players I see as vulnerable are Winder

Of our 8 rookies, Strnadica has gone and Joyce was a waste of time and surely does not get another go. That leaves Jones, Trew, West, Dixon, Naish and Culley. The rookies I see under the pump are Naish, West, Dixon and Trew. I think Dixon will go again as we do not know Oscar is OK and we are think in our ruck stocks. Naish, West and Trew will likely have their contracts finalised after the draft once we see what we get.

I would look at moving Langdon to the rookie list and be prepared to pay him out if we find better options in the draft

James Brayshaw ......... 26 ....... not sure about that.

That Brayshaw is one head knock away from retirement and isn't even very good. Not worth it.

Obviously the family has a fetish for helmets.

Pretty sure Culley isnt a rookie. Nominated a 2 year contract.

Do people feel Naish has done enough to keep? Decision making is questionable at times especially in defense.

Couldn't fault Naish's endeavour, effort and risk taking earlier in the season but it become pretty obvious pretty quickly why he couldn't stay on Richmond's list. It almost always turns out this way with recycled players. I'd re-rookie him if we could, but I doubt he's going to be any more than injury cover. Hugh Dixon you could say the exact thing about as well except replace Richmond with Fremantle.

Matt crouch has been told by nicks that he wont be offered another contract after the current one runs out.

Has 1 year to go, we may be able to get him cheaply as an extractor to guys like chesser/culley, or to injury prone?

Are you saying the sum total of the list changes that are expected are going to be JK retiring, Nelson leaving, maybe Langdon getting put on rookie list, plus we might cut a few on the rookie list? We are likely to win or just miss out on a spoon based on percentage with the second oldest list in the comp and that is the sum total of the changes that are going to be made?
