What a stupid thing to say though.

Not only is Mifsud himself Aboriginal, he is literally the Executive Director of Aboriginal Victoria now which is the government agency that responsible for Aboriginal Affairs in Victoria.

I think I have spoken about this issue at length here and on the MB.

The kind of comments Rendell expressed are pervasive in AFL community. Everyone wants the talent and flair that comes along with many of the Indigenous boys, but many clubs aren't willing to do the other piece, that is sometimes required, which is around mentoring, decision making, character development.

We need to be breaking down barriers and ensuring clubs have the RESOURCES AND CAPABILITY to identify and then support Indigenous players. Some of whom need more support than other players.

If you take Rendell's comments to their end point, that means for us at West Coast - No Chris Lewis, No Wirrpanda, No Liam Ryan, No Willie Rioli, No Jarrod Cameron, and very likely no Tim Kelly.

What a terrible travesty that would be.

Oh don’t get me wrong - it was a very stupid thing to say to someone in Misfud’s position (or anyone in general really) - but I think context is everything - and while he may have voiced an underlying prejudice that was out there, it always seemed to be more ‘this is what it may come to’ rather than ‘I think this is what clubs should do.’ - but that’s how it was reported at the time.

Anyway, ancient history.

What would we do if we find ourselves in the likely position of Carlton matching?

In all likelihood, Carlton will move up the ladder a few spots reducing their compo, which would make it more likely that they match, rather than accept a pick around 10.

It might cost us 2 firsts (again).

Honestly, Carlton should simply let him go. Due to their poor management, he is essentially all banged up and longevity isn’t certain.

He definitely gave more to Carlton than vice Berea.

Dean the greater over Mason the lesser
At first I was trying to work out who Mason Kemp was. Then it dawned on me... Cox.
Mayhaps perchance you have missed the brother/cousin/relation theme here? :D

Unless of course in my world renowned stratospheric level of ignorance I have missed a familial relationship here?

I heard its more to do with Cripp`s partner that he wants to leave Melbourne but SOS seems to think its lack of finals .So Carlton to play finals in 2021 have gone hard at Williams and Saad and of course Martin in 2019 ..

Brayshaw

It certainly looks like we got the 'lesser brother' again. In this case the lesser than the lesser brother.

We seem to make a bit of a habit of it when it comes to family selections...

Ah Chee the lesser,
Selwood the lesser, followed by,
Selwood the even lesser,
Cameron the lessor,
Cripps the lessor (cousin in this case).
You conveniently left out Naitanui. I think we got the best one there. M brown maybe also?

The more big names Carlton get, the harder it will be for them to match a bid for Cripps without having to get rid of depth. There's a good chance they'll be getting Papley in 2021 (over paying him too) so we'll have a much better chance at getting Cripps for nothing if that happens.

Looking forward to watching Langdon, Cameron, Jones fighting it out for small forward spots. Maybe we’ll see Ryan given some midfield minutes to fit a couple in. Our midfield depth suddenly isn’t an issue if we can rotate Duggan, Ryan through there and have Waterman and Cripps have stints on a wing. We just need players and coaches to be versatile
Disagree. Midfield depth to me is having guys who can step into a midfield role when the A team goes down. None of those guys could do that, except maybe Duggan at a pinch.
And Cripps and Waterman having stints on a wing doesn't excite me a great deal. Ryan I'm sure would be creative for short periods in there, but that means we don't have him in the forward line.....

Jakovich the lesser

full proof amirite Dark Sharks
Peter Matera says hi too.

Thoughts on this deal?

WCE trade Hickey and a future third to Sydney for a future second.

WCE trade our future second (not Sydney’s) to Brisbane for Witherden.

Means we get Witherden and a likely upgrade in the 2021 second round for Hickey and a future third.

Sydney get Hickey for a likely downgrade next year from the 20s to the 40s or 50s.

Brisbane get a likely pick in the 30s for Witherden.
I Like that trade Miguel, I would still like to see Warner included in the trade somehow

I didn't consider family members who never made it onto an AFL list at all.
I'm sure that there are 100s, maybe 1000s of players who had brothers who either didn't play or played at amateur of lower league level.

I'm pretty sure that NN's brother never made it onto an AFL team list..

The obvious better brothers we have had wins with were Jakovich and McGovern.

That other mid could be Anderson from North's. Heard that Lion's are interested.

Witherden to us frees up the cap space and a list spot.

You all know who I'd prefer.

We don't have cap space issues, that are public anyway, and we have Steph Martin still without a contract as well as Lester so if push came to shove we could cut them free. We also have Adams, he is a west Australian I think. Injury prone but a top 22 at any club when fit and would be twice the money of Witherden and also with 2 years on his contract. Witherden isn't on huge money although when he did extend his contract he was best 22 at the time. If there is someone else thats not public yet, and we are pretty good at keeping things on the low, it might be the case. Witho is currently away with the 'popular' group of players and their partners seemingly having a great time (from social media) I just don't see him going over to you guys as a Victorian kid less it's huge money North Melbourne, Hawthorne or the Bombers would seem a more likely scenario but I just think its all speculation.

Lions cap space will be starting to tighten up. Just signed Daniher, both Andrews and Cameron would have got a nice boost and all those top draft picks are maturing into decent talent. Neale from Freo wouldnt have come cheap and until trade period is over you dont know who else the Lions are chasing.

On top of that list sizes and cap is being reduced by head office.
