Just a question to keep some interest up till the first game. I can't help but notice how Presti has hardly been mentioned in everyone's high hopes for the future. I imagine that this may be his last year. He hasn't played much for two years now, and the handful of games he did get towards the end of last year didn't show a lot. So he might be feeling a mixture of "thank God I'm still here" and "one last chance to show the buggers," and possibly even "no more Mr Nice Guy." Does he have that mongrel streak? Could he come out with a real sense of something to prove, and if so, might we see a different Presti? (He might even get that bloody goal yet!)

Played two games and won the contest both times, in the final he beat his opponent after he dislocated his shoulder.

I think you're probably right about Presti's "thinks". And I imagine that Rocca's would run along very similar lines. I'm hoping that both have enough feral-mongrel to inject a bit of roar, grunt and bite into their work this year.

we have continually seen when he is not in the side, we find it hard to hold the match winners of other teams aka fev, brown.

regardless of whether its presti or leigh brown, the one thing we have to try and prevent is the ball usage the forwards these two boys will be playing on are getting. as long as the likes of fevola, franklin, etc are not getting it served on a platter these boys will hopefully be able to hold their own enough to prevent fevola and franklin getting 7+ goals again. our midfield will either support these boys or show them up.

Presti is vitally important to any premiership chances we have this year. With the retirement of Wakelin, Presti is our best key defender and as previously mentioned, we were exposed badly by certain key forwards this year due to his absence.

Regardless of whether we win the grand final or even make the finals this year, it is critical that we get some service out of Presti. If he can get on the park more often than not, he'll buy us some more time to develop the likes of Nathan Brown, Ben Reid and perhaps John Anthony down back.

You would expect that both Presti and Rocca are well aware of how little time they have left in the game; not to mention our current lack of experience. I would imagine they're both gearing up to set the tone for our younger brigade and hopefully leave the game in the best possible fashion.

Well said. Silly to even think about it.
If Jonathan Brown rates Presti as his hardest ever opponent, I am not going to argue.
He might not be flashy, but he is reliable and keeps his opponents honest.
No way would that w.a.n.k.e.r fev have kicked bags against us if Presti played, which means we would have beaten Carlton 2 times last year instead of losing.

Presti is a gun, there's no doubt. We have no player like him in the team, there is nobody who can offer the same close checking abilities as Presti, he'll just wear his opponent like a glove. He will never be the most flashy player in the team but in terms of effectiveness he would rate up with the best defenders in the competition. If he is fit, he simply has to play. In my view he's still our first choice defender in spite of the injuries he's received, and in the two games he played last season I thought he performed his role extremely well given how long he'd been out.

Presti 'the blanket' is in. In the past rarely beaten. Just hope that his body holds up and can return to being that annoying tagging defender. Remember J. Brown ranks him as the best defender he had to play on.

presti is still, after all these years, our best key back... this isnt an insult to any of other backs but more of a reality..as 1 said j.brown rates him as the best he's played on and i for 1 have rarely seen a bad game from presti.... fevola wont be kicking bags against presti and for what its worth i still think presti has enough in the tank to give franklin quiet days (by that i mean 3-4 goal)...

It's only a matter of fitness for Presti, if he gets his body right and stays that way, there's no reason he couldn't go on for a few more seasons and be a cornerstone of our side.

Hi Guys and happy New Year.
Presti is a very important cogg in our backline and if we are to have a chance at the flag,he should be out there.
Let's see,who are our big backmen.Presti,brown,nathan brown, add to that possibly Anthony and reid if they settle them in the backline this year which could prove interesting.
Anthony although working out as a good forward,he was likened to the next jimmy clement in our backline,and Reid who is still developing at 197 cm,and a bit of bulk with that touch of speed,Reid could end up being the foil we need for players like fev,and Buddy franklin.
If these two play out well in our backline our stocks of big men down back will be good and could take the pressure off Presti a little.
One would assume with players like Rusling ,rocca and Dawes, who jostling for forwrd positions,Anthony and Reid could end up permanent backmen.

As The Royal Sampler said it's just a matter of fitness. If he is fit, he is in. Presti's fitness and N Brown's development are going to be the 2 keys for our defence this year.

We really need to Presti to remain fit to play on the likes of Brown and Fevola and we need Brown to be able to play CHB and keep up with the likes of Riewoldt and Pavlich. I hope the pictures of Brown looking like the Hulk does not affect his speed.
