Did you see what happened in the US a few weeks ago?
That said, I don't think Australia is nutty enough to get anywhere near that level. Not yet anyway. Hopefully never. We do have the advantage that our political system is set up to ensure a nutter like Trump never ends up sniffing party leadership, let alone the PM role.
the problem in the US is the influence of the media. Have a look Biden has taken over and it still doesn’t stop.
media in general has such an effect on society it’s crazy. They will undermine or support whoever they like and it will influence most of the country.
my personal opinion, the media is too biased and wayyyy to influential.
andGreene and Boebert are legit certifiable Qanon nutters. In a sane country they'd be reduced to yelling their views on a street corner at passers-
Each side listens to the echo chamber of their own chosen media to further reinforce their own views and continue to divide America.the problem in the US is the influence of the media. Have a look Biden has taken over and it still doesn’t stop.

They get away from lawsuits etc with that lying shit on Fox and Sky by saying they are an entertainment shows rather than actual news, unbelievable. The US has some seriously unhinged 'mainstream media'. Stuff like Alex Jones, Newsmax, OANN makes the Murdoch papers look like the communist manifesto.
Social media is a bigger problem IMO. The news and television media is at least held to something resembling standards. Weak standards, but standards nonetheless. Literally anyone can post literally anything on social media, and somebody else out there will believe it.

And add to that the worse situation of purposeful disinformation.Yeah but me posting an opinion on my page is one thing, but the social misinformation tolerance is out of control yes. Unfortunately alot of people use social as a news source.
I hear Firepower’s a great investment RickI'm just sharing the info. The person whom I spoke to said this guy is pro vaccine, even the relative I spoke to is still pro vacinne, but there was an adverse reaction.
It seems some here just don't want to listen to any other opinion than the one that is the vaccine will solve everything and do what the government says, so I'll comply.
On the subject of vaccines this does not make easy reading...
'Experts say the problems associated with "first-generation" COVID-19 vaccines are being exposed, as one European regulatory body questions the lack of data supplied for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and recommends against its use for the elderly. '
The AstraZeneca vaccine trials have to be seen as suspect. Firstly they stuffed up the trial doses then they had insufficient data for high risk groups such as over 65s, pregnant women etc. In the absence of that trial data it looks like the efficacy of the AstraZeneca is being officially questioned. You have to wonder whether some data was deliberately withheld to cover up some shortcomings.
This has ramifications in Australia as the AstraZeneca vaccine is being manufactured in Melbourne by CSL and is likely to be the one most Australian get. It is encouraging that the Pfitzer vaccine will be available in Australia. Doherty Institute head of vaccine and immunisation research group professor Terry Nolan said,
'At the moment [in Australia] we are not preparing to use the AstraZeneca vaccine until after the Pfizer vaccine has been rolled out, we do have the luxury of time.'
That sounds like there is a chance that over 65's will get a shot at the Pfitzer vaccine with the AstraZeneca being used on lower risk groups. Of course it depends on Pfitzer overcoming production and supply problems and the results of the latest AstraZeneca trials.
Novavax have released trial data and some of it looks good however it's lower efficacy against the South African variant is concerning. Novavax has a big advantage in that it can be given as a single dose. The vaccine manufacturers are playing catch up atm as their attention is now centered on updating current vaccines so they can counter the South African and Brazilian variants. I cannot help but question if the US, UK and EU Governments are not putting too much faith in vaccines solving all their problems. If the virus can mutate around the vaccines and the vaccines do not prevent infection they are going to be playing catch up for some time.
I think there is little doubt that Australia has done the right thing in waiting to see how these vaccines pan out. Maybe all those over 65's who have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca in the UK do not have the protection it was thought they had? Maybe Boris will have to start the process again at least for over 65s? In the UK the situation may be further complicated by the decision not to follow the recommended path and provide a second shot 21 days after the first but to wait three months between shots.

Gaps in 'first-generation' COVID-19 vaccines exposed as Novavax releases both 'encouraging' and 'concerning' results
European regulatory bodies are questioning the lack of data supplied for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, recommending against its use for the elderly, as another vaccine slated for Australia releases a mix of "encouraging" and "concerning" interim results.www.abc.net.au
Dont be a conspiracy theorist. Trust science.
That's literally the point of the article?
Don't worry, just trust.
Trust medical research and experts with years of experience yes.
Believe second hand anecdotal garbage from Facebook and YouTube no.
