More to the point: 60% of hospitalisations from the unvaccinated 35% of the population. How is that number compared to when it was 100% unvaccinated? How do the death rates compare? The old base rate error(s). Rebase and recalculate your chances. There's plenty more to this, look up a Dr Sara Marzouk on that other social media. Does a great job of explainery for longery. The Vic's are obsessed with getting a "payback" hub after last year.

Vic has 96 active cases, SA has 5 and we are going where ?

Blame the SA gov. They're the ones telling them to pack their bags no contact sports? The AFL have no choice but to continue in Victoria as the gov here are allowing exemptions for whatever stupid reason? Personally I think they should be postponing the season for a few weeks..

yep masks that won't stop you catching it have really held up worldwide, so much so that nearly everywhere's given up on containment and getting on with it. The classic CDC fail when they did analysis of mask vs no mask dining etc and found no difference so buried that study fast. It's even worse when most people are wearing pointless cloth masks that they never wash and constantly are touching, putting their health more at risk.

Masks are not a silver bullet never have been but they do help reduce the likelihood of transmission as there's significantly less airborne particles.

My understanding is they will detail the payments to people tomorrow.

You could probably take unpaid leave and then just receive the payment.

It is meant to be sick leave, i believe.

I know for the purpose of government covid payments you are ineligible if taking sick leave in this period as that is considered appropriate leave.

Annual leave is not considered appropriate leave and you will still be entitled to covid payment.

I assume that means your employer should count it as sick leave if you have days available rather then forcing you to take annual leave.

If you are unable to work from home, sick/personal leave should be used. At least that should be the approach of any decent employer. Can't talk about your employer.

Last year the case figures from Victoria were worse but it was the original strain and not the Delta variant. The outbreak was also confined to one State whereas this time around we have three States in lockdown and random infections popping up in another. It will only take this variant to get out of control in one of those States and we are in deep shit.

If your Government wanted to be pro active Greg they could stop all incoming flights for two weeks to allow the States to get on top of the situation and prevent more quarantine leaks.
