COVID-19 continues to be a leading cause of death in the U.S. in September 2021

COVID was the leading cause of death in the US at the start of 2021, dropped to 7th in July but was the 2nd leading cause in September ahead of cancer. The recent rise is put down to the delta variant, insufficient vaccination rates, and local and state governments easing up social distancing restrictions.

COVID was the leading cause of death for 35-44 year olds in September and the second leading cause for the 25-34 age group.

Also, it's estimated that over 90,000 COVID-19 deaths since June 2021 likely would have been prevented with vaccinations. A recent CDC study showed age-standardized vaccine effectiveness against deaths of 91% in the June 20–July 17 period and 94% in the April 4–June 19 period.

Which is the site moderators error. Any discussion about COVID and the AFL should have been directed to this thread and a lot of the superfluous bs that has been allowed on this thread should have been removed.

I do not see that moving the thread achieves much.

We have a dedicated forum for non football talk. It's called Black Diamond Corner. Despite the original purpose, this thread is now 99.5% non football talk. Honestly, the closest we get to football posts on this thread are when everyone is arguing and someone says 'here's one thing we can all agree on - Sack Hinkley'. Football related covid talk can be - and is - absorbed into football threads. And the reason for this is because a lot of posters actually want to read about a covid issue in footy but don't want to wade through dozens of pages of obsessive bipolar debate about Dan Andrews, vaccines and the Victorian halth system. This thread is in its correct place now.
