"WHO warns corona virus may never go away"

And why would it? Theres not going to be a vaccine. We've had a 'vaccine' for regular flu for years and thats still here.

Its not like its going to just magically disappear

Corona virus is here to stay better get used to it and go back to living our lives

There is another study estimating up to 750 suicides out of the impact of this corona virus on people's lives...7 times the current death toll of the corona virus...but that's ok isn't it?
That estimate is based on the unemployment rate reaching 11 percent. It was 5.5% at the start of March. The unemployment rate would need to stay at 11% for the whole year too. On the other hand, we've had almost 100 deaths from COVID-19, with heavy restrictions... in only seven or eight weeks?

Don't quote numbers you don't understand, makes you look stupid

You do know influenza and a coronavirus aren't the same thing right?

We've got successful long-term vaccines against many things, the most relevant is that there is no known vaccine for a common cold originating from a coronavirus, SARS or MERS. Not that the flu vaccine has to be constantly updated to be effective.

We have a vaccine for some flu strains. ( Not "the" flu ). The current vaccine is for 4 of the flu's considered most dangerous as of the time the decision was made to produce it.

Can anyone explain why GP's would be fined 20k for using Serology tests for COVID19? Serology test are the gold standard, they test the blood for antibodies and would show if someone has, had or lived with and recovered from COVID19 and is essentially immune. The quick 15-30 min tests that are all over the country in car parks has proven to give many false/negatives, and clearly from a diagnostics perspective is totally inferior to the Serology blood test. GP's doing mass blood tests will probably uncover the fact that the overwhelming amount of people don't need a vaccine, and further, the virus is once again proven to be a mass overreaction.

The link you posted answered your question you do realise?

Fining doctors for using Serology tests is rubbish, either way you look at it. Saving them for "overwhelmed" health care workers? Yeah ok

you don't think the deck would get enough traffic on it with the teams that already play there?

plus, who would want to spend a winter in ****ing Melboring?

As suggested/Rumoured in the age.

Moving to Victoria remains a fallback option for West Coast and Fremantle, who could be asked to play Melbourne teams away from their opponents’ preferred home ground, in order to reduce Victorian bias.
But if they do temporarily move to Melbourne, league sources have confirmed to The Age that the AFL have offered them to play Victorian teams at their non-home grounds.
For example, if West Coast were forced to play a home game against Richmond in Victoria, it would be at Marvel Stadium and not the Tigers’ preferred MCG.
The opposite would apply if they were to play a Marvel Stadium club, like the Western Bulldogs or North Melbourne.

It would avoid West Coast and Fremantle playing home games at their opponent’s stronghold.

The article itself explains why;

While they can produce results in about 15-30 minutes, experts have raised concerns about false-negative rates and warn they are unreliable for detection of acute COVID-19.

The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia on Wednesday warned the tests had a “fundamental limitation” because antibodies could take up to 12 days to develop, long after a person becomes infectious.

Instead, PCR tests, which detect fragments of the virus and have been used in Australia so far, should continue to be the diagnostic gold-standard test, it says.

point stands that there is already a bit of traffic on two Melbourne arenas between 9 teams. You want to add another couple of matches to this with the WA teams?

Gold Coast is good for West Coast. Fine weather and environment, and its easier for ground staff who need to prepare all venues.

Lets get the Vaccine first - then we can have an acceptable level of death!..... just like the flu... I wonder how many less cases of flu death there will be this year?

Article reeks of "this would potentially not concur with the reasons we are putting forward to keep people locked up... so we're not going to allow it"

I don't understand why they wouldn't allow special clearance to elite sporting codes. They will be placed under far more health measures than the general public and are all getting tested by the end of the week. This "we are all in it together" is rubbish, elite people in their field are always given special treatment. That's how the world works.

I don't see why the SA clubs can't do full contact training like all the other clubs can from this Monday, there will be minimal risk if they are kept isolated from the community which is what will happen with the other clubs where players can only leave their homes to go to training.

If no exemptions are given that would mean the SA clubs would need to relocate elsewhere to do their training or the AFL will have to push back the start date.

Up until the 90's the G had 3 games on match day.U/19's/Res/Seniors with the Cricket wicket mind you.
I'm sure nowdays it can cope with an extra game over the weekend.

Absolutely spot on.. Beyond ridiculous GP’s are threatened with fines.

About a third of the way into the article:

The tests, given fast-track approval by the TGA, detect IgM and IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 from venous or fingerprick blood samples placed on a test strip.

The TGA itself advised that serology testing could not determine if someone was infectious, adding that the tests were generally used to provide historic information about viral exposure.

Emphasis added.

I wish people would read beyond the headlines.

Edit - owen87 already quoted the exact same lines. Are you just trolling at this point?

Surely as there are no crowds, the lack of knowledge the visiting team has about the ground itself would dissappear after a couple of games in a row?

Fixture will be hard enough without worrying about home ground bias. The don't worry today with a 22 game fixture

Did you not read the article? Or do you just not understand the details in the article?

The serology test is not appropriate as a diagnostic tool because someone could be infected and contagious and not yet developed antibodies to the virus, thus they test negative using a serology test and instead of self isolating, go and mingle in public while fully contagious and spread the virus.

It makes total sense.

The reference to health care workers was that the test can be used to possibly establish immunity to the virus and give them confidence to continue working in a high risk environment. Said nothing about saving these tests just for them, and all about incorrect use of the tests themselves.

What a clueless post.
