Premier Mark McGowan has announced a $607 million economic stimulus package in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The measures include:
- Freezing of all household fees and charges. This includes electricity, water, public transport fares and the emergency services level. This will cost the State budget $402 million.
- Energy assistance payment for vulnerable West Australians, including pensioners, will be doubled. This will cost the State budget $91 million.
- $114 million to support small to medium businesses. Eligible businesses with an annual payroll of between $1m and $4m will receive a one-off grant of $17,500. Next round of payroll tax cuts will also be brought forward.
- Businesses impacted by COVID will defer their payroll tax payments for 19/20 payroll to July 2021.
- There will be 20 days COVID leave for all public sector workers, including casuals.
Very good proposal from WA, very fair.
