People are getting off on it. Look at the people posting an update in this thread every time a new fatality is reported.
The truth, as always, will lie somewhere in the middle of "the world is ending" and your "tis but a flesh wound".

The truth, as always, will lie somewhere in the middle of "the world is ending" and your "tis but a flesh wound".

If only there was a way to report on the issue without the constant hyoerbole.

Speaking of which, if coronavirus was even one-tenth as deadly as the internet addicts would have us believe, where are the videos of people dieing in the streets in the slums of Africa?

Where are the videos? Where are the photos? Where is the evidence?

In the space of a week the world has gone full totalitarian and nobody seems to be wondering, where is the evidence of this death plague?

Do a little research. Italy has gone past China as having the most deaths from the outbreak so far with over 3,500 fatalities. They have had to call the military in to help with bodies as the morgues are full.
One month ago on the 19th of February they had 3 confirmed cases. They will crack 50,000 tomorrow.

I'm all for debate and I think I'm rational enough to know there's more than one way to look at things.

But you're right I don't think they got it right.

I think it was short sighted and based almost purely on the economics of the situation.

To point out the absurdity of it, they're banning hugs and hi 5s after goals yet players can tackle.

Let's break that down, you cannot passingly interact with a person you know and trust yet you can hold another person you don't know, repeatedly.

My company is making its entire workforce work from home. We cannot even occupy the same office space, yet the AFL are allowing this to happen.

The NBL were in the midst of a finals series and they called it off and they have significantly less contact. So yeah I think it's somewhat arrogant to think that rules that are clearly applying to other sports don't apply to them.

But hey virgin got in their advertising for flights none of us can take.

I truly believe this was a money driven decision.

As to the entertainment value of last night's game, it felt like a glorified training run to me. Reckon I'll watch out game and that's about it.
Fair enough. My work has us all still in the office. My wife is 100% still at work. So my take is probably affected by that.

Just a friendly reminder about mental health on top of everything else.

I get that some people may be feeling a heightened sense of apathy, dismay, depression, anxiety or frustration, or all the above, so please talk to someone if you are not feeling yourself or if you feel the world is collapsing around you.

I'm happy to take PM's if people just want to talk or vent or talk absolute rubbish.

I would have thought that the odds of any player being infected right now are still very low, In three or four weeks that will change significantly.

China has just had its second successive day with no community transmission. When we get to the point where we get past the peak to that point and have say a period of 10 to 20 days I think footy will be safe to carry on.

Does anybody here run a small business in an affected industry?

If so, how do you feel about the mouth-breathers on the internet calling for government lockdowns and other restrictions?

Personally, I would have found this 'daddy government tell me what to do' behaviour laughable in the past.

Now it is not so funny. I know a lot of people whose livelihoods are getting smashed by this.

All over a flu which in some places is already proving to be no more dangerous than the regular flu.

Those of you supporting this drastic changing of the concept of democracy, all over a flu, do you think about the consequences?

Or are you so gripped by fear that your ability to think beyond the next twitter death update has been eliminated?
Alot of this is being done to protect the vulnerable and elderly.

There will come a point where survival kicks in and society will say screw you, you old bastards, I am not sacrificing my future to protect you and I am going back to work.

I'm not buying into your government conspiracy crap though. It is real. But in perspective, 7 people have died so far in Aus. The youngest is 77. At 77 anything is going to get you. Anyone dying over 70 is dying of old age.

I honestly do not know what you are talking about.

If you mean that the basic tenets of democracy have been abandoned, that is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact.

If you don't believe people are dying have a look at the WHO situation Reports.

And maybe you might like to explain to the families of the 8778 people who have died so far, that there is nothing to see here but a breakdown of democracy in favour of totalitarian states all over the world.

If you don't believe people are dieing

Don't strawman me, bro. Of course people die, every day, of the flu and all other kinds of things.

Who knows how many people will kill themselves when the businesses they have spent years building are ruined by government bans.

I can’t be bothered going back through 106 pages but has anyone notice the stupidity we have introduced into the game. Players aren’t allowed to shake hands at the start of game and must be separated on the bench but you can still tackle players and give someone hug when kicking a goal?

Full of contradictions is the afl.

But aren't you saying that global governments are using it as a means to install totalitarian regimes? I'm not buying that.

That's just as well, because there are no Australians with pre-existing conditions.

Of course not. My ailing mother-in-law, needs to realise she doesn't have significantly reduced lung capacity, so she will be okay. My older sister also needs to accept that she never suffered from Polio and more recently a Melanoma in one eye (leaving her blind in that eye) and even if she did, nothing to see with covid-19. And I'll also tell my younger sister she was just a malingerer when she had a hysterectomy for uterine cancer 13 years ago and that she has nothing to fear from covid-19. Pity I can't have a word to my brother who died just over 12 months ago from pancreatic cancer, that at least he would been okay if he was still here and contracted covid-19.

Restriction of movement both between countries and within countries.

Restriction of public gatherings.

Shutting down of entire industries.

What does this look like to you?

Okay then M2F. Which of the current measures put in place by our democratically elected federal and state governments would you repeal and which are anti-democratic?

Be specific, instead of just making sweeping statements.

They at least will have a choice, unlike those people who are susceptible due to diminished immune systems or because they are just old and hoping to live out their lives peacefully and not die a dreadfully painful death from covid-19.

I don't support any measaures which will destroy the livelihoods of innocent people as part of a War on Germs.

Yes, exactly. The business world should just keep going on and on. That way we can all be flithy rich as we all die of a virus that could have been contained.

How many innocent people are you happy to die to protect these livelihoods?

On a point of order, I would say the measures introduced do curtail our freedoms but they would only become anti-democratic if a government attempted to suspend elections and declare emergency law. The only one who has tried this so far is Netanyahu who also happens to be losing an election runoff and facing fraud charges. I wouldn't put it past Trump.

What does this look like to you?

Common sense decisions made to reduce the potential for millions of people dying.

Are you suggesting that all governments are conspiring to permanently remove many freedoms we have at the present?

Do you seriously think that the Morrison Government, (under the guidance of all of, repeat all of the Chief Medical Officers of the Commonwealth and State Governments by the way), take these drastic measures and thereby lose their very precious budget surplus, just to impose restrictions on our freedoms?

If you do, then you are not borderline delusional, you are delusional.
