maate, not an anti vaxxer, happy to have vaccines and my kid is all up to date with his

it’s about having bill gates, control which vaccines are required for the general population. The guy has previously broken anti trust laws, ones that are designed not to stifle competition. He is not a saviour.

Okay, good to know. The Gates stuff is bizarre mate. He stepped away from a much greater sphere of influence in order to do this.

Interesting insight into governments changing legislation to break the patents of drugs, and using generic medication.

The private, for-profit pharmaceutical industry appears ill equipped to handle a global public health crisis like COVID-19. According to economist Dean Baker, systemic problems require systemic solutions. “Drugs are almost invariably cheap to manufacture. They end up being expensive because of patent and related monopolies,” he told us in December. He argues the government should buy up patents and make the drugs freely available, drastically reducing costs, also advocating for the creation of a publicly financed pharmaceutical research network, where the taxpayer pays for medical research upfront and all inventions or drugs that come out of it are in the public domain.

“I would look to replace patent monopoly supported research with direct public funding. This could be done by the same companies that do research now. The difference would be that under the system I envision they would get long-term contracts, with the condition that all findings be posted as soon as practical (so other researchers could benefit) and that all patents would be placed in the public domain so that they could be sold as generics from day one,” he explained.

With no COVID-19 vaccine even close to ready, existing drugs are humanity’s best hope against the virus. Fortunately, a number of cheap-to-produce drugs and other remedies have shown promising initial signs. However, produced and controlled by multinational pharmaceutical corporations, the exorbitant cost of many of them could provide an overwhelming barrier to the well being of the world’s population. The decision now is whether governments will choose to put profits or people first.

There's a flip side to this coin. Drug development is incredibly expensive and most drugs fail the phase trials.

I can't see any pharma manufacturer being too exorbitant with the price because literally billions of customers are going to be their market.

Its interesting what Medicins Sans Frontiers have to say about GAVI.
basically they’re pissed most of these kids don’t have the basic vaccines yet GAVI is pushing expensive new vaccines.
Bill Gates organisation is distorting policy of gradually improving health around the world.

Dunno what this is, but pharma's have to recoup costs lost on failed research (the majority) and make profits like any other business.

How?

How?
This is GAVI

The problem is they’re continuing the status quo approach emphasizing new vaccines rather than shifting to a stronger emphasis on improving basic health services, fresh water and improved sanitation.
Why are they testing new measles vaccine in the Congo cost of $7 a dose, in the middle of a measles outbreak when there’s 30-cent measles vaccine available?

Theres actually an interesting Pr war between msf and gavi online.

Perth man Jonathan David admits breaching coronavirus quarantine to see girlfriend

Jonathan David will find out tomorrow whether he will become the first Australian to be jailed for ignoring self-isolation.

A Perth concreter has admitted twice breaching state-enforced coronavirus quarantine to travel by train to visit his girlfriend — and will find out tomorrow whether he will become the first Australian to be jailed for ignoring self-isolation.
Jonathan David, 35, today pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to comply with a direction – that direction being that he had to stay inside the Travelodge hotel in the Perth CBD after travelling to WA from Victoria on March 27.

Perth Magistrate’s Court heard today that David had initially been given permission to see out his mandatory 14-day quarantine at his girlfriend’s address in Armadale.
But two days into that stint, the couple had fallen out, and David had to move out.
After consultation with authorities, David was placed in a room at the hotel, where he was supposed to stay, without leaving, until April 9.

But after already having been seen out of his room five times by staff, when police went to check on him at 7.30am on April 4, he was nowhere to be seen.
When he turned up 45 minutes later, he told officers he had left for “personal reasons”.
After being charged and summonsed, he was told by police again to stay inside, or else. But the very next day, when police again went to check in, David was again absent.
He did not arrive back at the hotel until 4.19am — when he told police he had taken the train to see his girlfriend. His sojourns were all caught on the hotel CCTV cameras.
Police prosecutors said that use of public transport was an aggravating factor in offences which were “selfish in the extreme” — and called for an immediate jail term for David, for breaching conditions which were in place to “save lives”.

His lawyer Gregory Chin said David’s job as a grain silo builder had been impacted by the Covid-19 crisis — and his girlfriend had now been evicted from her address, along with her two children, because of David’s actions.
He also claimed David had left the hotel the first time to buy food, as he was only being given breakfast there. And Mr Chin said a fine, community service or a suspended jail term should be considered before an immediate jail term.
“I am not here to make light of the offending – it was foolish, reckless and poor decision making. And while it is serious, it is not a serious example of this type of offending,” Mr Chin said.
Magistrate Elaine Campione said she needed some time to make her decision, and will sentence David at 9am on Wednesday morning.

Good thing his face was blurred out in the elevator

Also what a tool, and what a shit headline

Geez parts of Europe loosening lockdowns already

Spain one of them, having only 567 deaths in the last 24 hours...

Clearly they are keen to try to get into the Gold Medal position in terms of total deaths and hence knock off the USA.
