There are vaccines for pneumonia. So if someone who is vaccinated catches the coronavirus, then does that mean it can't advance to pneumonia and cause death?

I can ask my doctor, I've had two shots of pneumovax since I broke a few ribs and ruptured my spleen but think another might be due.

Watch the government use this as an excuse to become more authoritarian.

This is a real threat

The electorate was foolish enough to demand a more authoritarian government, calling for the federal government to create a constitutional crisis by bringing in the military without permission of the states/ premiers.

This is now a likely development. Imagine that, a short term issue that the military could resolve has resulted in the long term loss of control to protect the citizens from the army and its government.

Corona, despite being a storm in a tea cup could very well compound this issue. The electorate can be so short sighted sometimes.

Fingers crossed the states and the state health system resolves this, rather than the army.

Seems reasonable

Anti-virals, steroids for the lungs and plenty of water seems to be the same recipe for corona, sars, swine and bird flue

For 80% of us a Panadol and a cup of lemon tea will suffice

I will stick to Pastis the star anise was apparently the secret ingredient for Tamiflu for SARS hope it works here too

considering European Australia basically started as a military run prison, when did it become not a military state?
Personally I think climate bushfire pandemics terrorism seem to be our greatest threats, either the military has to play its part in a none militaristic way, or funding needs to be stripped and spent directly on the real threats of today.

Put another way. Submarines? What the? Should I feel safer?

Pneumonia is a general term for inflammation of the lung, and usually refers to inflammation caused by infection. The vaccine you are probably referring to (pneumovax) is a vaccine against one specific organism that causes pneumonia in the community (streptococcus pneumoniae).

Unfortunately this will not immunise you from getting a pneumonia caused by other organisms, including SARS-CoV2.

Mate, don’t get me started on the subs. Only a fool would think $85b-$100b for an unproven sub program makes sense. All up with maintenance (excluding refits) is $250b.....for 12 subs which we will only have the crew for 3-4 subs.

Yes we should reallocate funds and spend more wisely. There’s a simple $65b saving by ordering 6 off the shelf subs. I’d prefer to go even further and hold off for the unmanned sub.

Landcare management is a $5-10b effort that addresses water, run off, carbon, fires and reduces chemicals in our environment. It’s productive, creates jobs and pays for itself. This makes loads of sense.

I wouldn’t be laughing. If Sanders can manage to implement universal healthcare that would mean Americans would go to the doctor and get their symptoms treated early, stemming the flow of the disease.

No

People unless very ill shouldnt be going anywhere near a doctor with this.

But they should have access to testing if there is a reasonable suspicion they have been exposed. And in the US this appears to be an issue.

Having to spend money on nuisances like public health is an anathema to this government.

Can only speculate what Scottys 'secret' religious beliefs are about the fate of the masses. Funny thing is its his voting demographic most at risk

Another instructive piece by barrister Natalie Hickey.

AM Can you repost that in the main coronavirus thread?
Cheers

Some dumb c{}# has - whilst waiting for a covid test result - gone to an event with 1500 people in a confined space.

One thing im all for is mandatory self isolation laws. Something like this with its 15.% mortality rate in over 50’s should have strict laws saying you have to self isolate.

my wife has a compromised immune system. She gets this it could be curtains whilst fuc#%^ imbeciles are spreading it when they know theres a possibility of having it.

a pretty dumb 70yo who lives in Perth's western suburbs and just arrived in Perth from London on Monday

This begs so many questions
- which flight and who is impacted on that flight
- what did the doctor say? I trust the doctor was negligent and dismissed the likelihood of corona and didn't advise isolation

Let's not forget, that generation listen to doctors like gospel

Just in reports this weekend, we had the Hobart guy who went back to work at a hotel, a Perth woman who went to a concert, a Sydney guy who went shopping, and the doc who continued working with cold like symptoms. Add to that the idiots in the USA who have attended work conferences and major events.

This is the big difference between us and china/Korea/Japan/Singapore. There have been some cases in these countries of people not giving a ****, but it's been a handful over a couple of months. We are one week in of this getting more momentum, and already people are saying **** it.

Even in Italy, where 16m around Lombardy are in quarantine, dozens of flights have been allowed to the UK since after the restriction was brought in.

Travel bans and masks won't do shit if we don't respect self quarantining

they should be charged and jailed.
self isolation doesn’t work.imo.
we need to open up all the old detention centres and put people there, under strict supervision.

that lady who came back from Iran ill , got tested, then went to work in the aged care facility, and a lady has since died. She should be charged, she knowingly as a health professional did the wrong thing.

I feel that while i like chucking bricks at scummo - their response has been pretty good to this - been a step ahead of who.

amazing - he can do leadership when he tries.
I have no issues with how they have managed the health issue. I am slightly worried that he is so obsessed with trying to preserve the surplus that he will undercook fiscal stimulus.

The RBA has been begging Treasury to loosen the purse strings for months. If the government waits til the May budget to announce its package (as its indicated it might) we will be well into recession before the spending takes effect.

We really shouldn’t be going into a negative growth period with interest rates already at 0.5%. It leaves us very little space to move. The current government needs to wear some blame for putting too much reliance on monetary policy to prop up the economy.
