Joel Selwood entered the AFL into one of the great midfields at Geelong. With there already being the likes of ablett, bartel, corey, ling there wasn't too much pressure on Selwood to perform and he pretty much walked right into their midfield and performed very well as a first year player.

Now I know Lucas isn't the same type of player Selwood is but I pose the question that could he walk in to Carltons midfield with the likes of Judd,Murphy,Gibbs,Mclean,Hadley and perform to great heights?

While our midfield contains already a host of star-studded names. With these boys playing their roles Lucas would be playing with out any added pressure to perform.

I personally expect him to play around 10 games maybe a bit more. But if he could do a Selwood and dominate from the get go then Carltons midfield will rival anyone in the world!

Perhaps, if Joel has a sister?

I Lol'd.

The advantage Lucas has is that he has played senior footy in WA, and should his form throughout the preasosn warrant it, he could get selected early in the season.

Doubt he'd have the same impact as Selwood, but the strength of the respective midfeids are certainly similar.

hmm..

There is always added pressure to perform in the Navy Blue now. Having said that, you never know. Whilst Joseph was a rookie in 08 who would have guessed that he would play every game on the back of a fantastic Nab Cup match on Ablett. It is amazing what a bit of confidence early can do for a player. And what I think you might have meant is that with Judd, Murph, Gibbs and McLean around Lucas wont draw a tagger for a while. So who knows.

I expect Kane to play 10-15 games next year and will play HFF with an occasional run through the middle.

I don't expect him to have the same impact as selwood but not many have. As others have mentioned he has played a season of senior footy in the WAFL and seems to have slipped straight into pre-season training with ease.

Only going on Youtube vision but he seems to have a knack for getting in the right spots, and doesn't panic in traffic...you would think this will help in adjusting to the pace of the game.

As it stands he probably needs to leapfrog a couple to play regularly, though I can see him looking pretty good in the more open NAB Cup style of play, and consequently could get a run early.

I'm not going to say that he can't 'do a Selwood' but it's obviously extremely unlikely.

Selwood is a brilliant talent but a major reason why he was able to have an immediate impact like he did was due to his body size.

Selwood came into the AFL system effectively as a ready made player in terms of his body.

Compare that to Lucas, and there's a huge difference. Lucas is still small in terms of body-size and will need a few preseasons to build himself up to where he needs to be.

Skill can often replace size in the short term but I'd be very wary of playing him for a full season in his first year in the AFL system. 10 games sounds about right for Lucas in 2010.

I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you on this one and say
