"I wouldn't assume he wants to play football again next year" Demetriou said last night.
"Do I think he wants to play again? Yes I do, but the question is when"

"As we speak, he's a non-registered footballer and he is out of the system. Should he nominate, we will have a plan in place but I wouldn't speculate about that before the commission hands down its decision"

What sort of plan? A plan to block Ben's entry into the draft?

Typically cryptic statement that really says nothing.

exactly the same as any player delisted by their club. If they nominate for the draft, the afl must accept that nomination. That will be the $640,000+ question.....and it would be very intersting to see what happens if they deny the application.

hopefully cousins to sue the pants of the AFL

The draft/trading farce needs to be challanged - maybe this is the golden opportunity to do so

They'll definitely look at every avenue to stop him but I think it would be pretty injust.

Just let him play and drug test him after every single match.

AFL is going to walk into a minefield if they de-register him. He has never been found guilty of playing under the influence of a banned substance, hasn't failed the 3 strike out of season testing system.

His manager could sue for restraint of trade, if he is de-registered and has no agreement via the player's association collective bargaining agreement to veto his legal rights his lawyers will sodomize the AFL if they deny him the ability to play.

Gee, so why is he having rehab for drug addiction then?

Oh I get it, you think he is clean

It will only be legal intervention that allows Ben to play next year.
From the moment BC told Andy D in his interview with him pre rnd 15 that he has been doing drugs since he was 16 and enjoys them, Andy D will have been making it his business to ensure he doesnt play.
Imagine how angry that arrogance made him?

Can you prove that every other player is clean? No. So the fact still remains that for all Ben has done wrong he has never failed an AFL drug test (or atleast) for any banned substance.

The AFL might be pissed that Benny has probably been taking banned substances for a number of years and yet has avoided detection as it shows how flawed their testing is. But to legally restrain someone from plying his trade........

Can anyone else see the glaring contradiction here

Umm that's what has been happening ...........still didn't stop him getting into trouble did it ?

The AFL make alot of money from Ben Cousins playing football so ofcourse they will let him play again they just have play hardball so they look like their handling the matter in a professional way and don't come across as soft *****, don't forget the AFL actions are not only viewed upon the football community but by the whole sporting community also.

Even if that was true, why would he say that straight to Andy D? Doubt that would be true....can he be THAT arrogant?
