South Africa sounded the alarm re Omicron on 24/11/2021 (just 4 days ago), stating it appears to have a much, much higher 'R' factor (ability to spread), maybe able to resist our current vaccines. There are now known cases is:
- South Africa
- Botswana
- Zimbabwe
- Namibia
- Lesotho
- Eswatini
- Mozambique
- Malawi
- Hong Kong
- Israel
- England
- Germany
- Italy
- Belgium
- Japan (I'm sure I read this but can't find the source, so maybe I dreamt it!)

It takes 10-14 days for them to do the science to know the impacts of Omicron, and before that, they are speculating based on the known outcome of previous variations... but to tell the truth, it's not looking good! What is not know yet is the illness/hospitalisation/death ratios... we can only hope this factor is low, but I am not holding my breath!

People and Govt's so want Covid to be over, that they keep ignoring the fine print and making plans as if this is a short term gig... anything under 5 years will be a bloody miracle imo...

According to Wikipedia they have received around 15 million doses of Pfizer - 25 millions at most if it's out of date - throughout the year, for a country with a population of 60 million.

We bought 40 million Pfizer doses for a country of 25 million in less time.

Urrkkhh. The news just does not better. I was planning to place my 95 yo mother who has dementia, is difficult and falls like an Autumn leaf into care this January.

I have immune deficiency and other physical issues. I expect I will peg out first in our personal Crapshoot. The one terror I have is not contracting CV but passing it on.

Everyone now owns a mask and has developed habit in wearing them. Why on earth would Perrottet remove the need for facemasks under the rules? Omnicron is milder but do we need to promote it? He clearly isn't thinking of the vulnerable in the community who will be threatened even by it. Monumental stupidity. Bring back Gladys

92.4% of the state fully vaccinated. Not sure what else people are meant to do. I’ve had two alerts for being in close contact of someone at Woolworths. Had a COVID test and perfectly fine.

Other than living in isolation we may need to get on with our lives.

I've followed the developments pretty closely. Dr John Campbell has cited evidence of SA experience that omnicron wave happens twice as fast IE like reaching peak in month. When it does it kills off other variants(delta now only 2% of SA cases) so there is hope it will bring about end of pandemic (less severe illness equivalent to a cold). You still get infection even though double vaccinated

Elderly (like my 93 yo mum) are still at risk because they can't even afford to get lung illness of any nature really.

I'm suspending cleaners coming in and going back to home delivery groceries. And waiting it out a few months to see what happens.

The guy is an utter di*K. How dare he belittle Kerry Chant's belief system and threaten all the vulnerable around masks. Nasty colds and lung illness KILL elderly. That may not be important to that di*K but it is important to me to keep my mum alive. Omnicron doubles cases each 2.5 days. Today's NSW cases are 2213. It doesn't take long to work out how numbers will go from here. Just double the number each 2.5 days. 25000 cases in January being what Hazzard says is light on tbh. This thing will now explode reach herd immunity quickly then dissipate as it's now doing in SA. The upside is that those that are vulnerable, prepare and hunker down may escape the wave before it dies

We will hit 18000 cases a day this side of Xmas eve. Pure maths really. It went from 1360 to 2213 in 2 days. Thats a multiplier of 1.7 every 2 days or app 2.0 every 2.5 days which is entirely consistent without it being inhibited in any way
