I said a couple of weeks ago Haradasun will only beat B graders. Looking at the race i only see B graders with a big question mark on Devil Moon as i don't know what to make of the Turnball as a formline and Miss Finland who looks like she needs Flemington and 2 miles.

Devil Moon - ???
Miss Finland - one paced but keeps coming
Haradasun - same
El Segundo - likes the valley but hit or miss
Marasco - no
Divine Madonna - Not in this class
Lad Of The Manor - charged home last start after being lost around the corner, might get a huge price, hes always threatened to take a big race.....
Rest - ugh

This race is more like a Toorak Handicap field then a Cox Plate field.

50 dollars each way Lad Of The Manor at 55/1 suits me

Where r u getting $8 from as i want $100 on it wherever u got it as he is my tip for the plate. Going about the same as last year up and down and only failed by a lip in the plate and loves the valley and this race suits as he loves it went the pace is on which will b on 800m out.

el segundo is again my pick. harada sun the danger i think. he never runs a bad race and has had no luck with barrier but just never seems to win. his race with el segundo last time out was great were el just beat him at the valley so that proves that he can handle the track.

miss finland seems to have lost he burst. her last few starts she has taken ages to wind up then finishes late. not what you really like in a cox. you would think she would need to be in the first 2 into the straight and have to hold on.

the danger is devil moon who has the form and could cause the upset over the more well known horses. it will be a great race much better than the c/cup

Just having a look and they've taken the market down. Last time I checked it was $8 last night.

I put a bit on but if it stays @ $8 I might have to put a little more on.

I backed El Segundo last year as well though but I think the trainer has done it better this year by keeping him a little fresher with the races spaced out further.
I'll still need to do a speed map and see if there is any pace etc.. but at this stage i'll go with El.

Doesn't look to be much speed so might have a couple of small bets on Devil Moon and Wonderful World who will both race close.

Rest of the WFA horses seem to be taking it in turns so how do you settle on one of those

Eskimo Queen will run at MV on her way to the Melb Cup.
Has only cuts & abrasions which is a minor miracle.

If she needs longer she'll run in the Mackinnon Derby Day

There is always speed in the Cox Plate. This race drags horses into the race.

Yes it does.
Did you not read who my bet is on? El Segundo always sits way back so must have a strong pace on for him to be in the finish. Has the best finish in Australia IMO.
This year is different though as most of the horses in the race like to sit back also. My point being if no one takes up the challange the back markers may not be swooping home as easy as it looks.

Toughest plate to pick a winner for some time. All of the gallopers have a few knocks on them. In my opinion (with no confidence whatsoever!) the winner will be Miss Finland, with the dangers -Haradasun and El Segundo. These 3 have been set for it. The others are all either afterthoughts or this is a lead up to the Cup. Doesnt mean they cant win it though. I wouldn't want under $5 for the 3 I mentioned though.

I've gone for Miss Finland. The knocks on her is that she's looking a bit dour. Thats true she is. But I believe looks are deceiving in her case. Most agree the run behind Rubiscent was quite good, she stormed home after being too far back off a slow pace. Then her 2nd to Maldivian she again came home hard but looked to lack the acceleration we know her to be capable of. Dour? Looking for 2 miles? Having looked at the race half a dozen times it is apparent that she slightly over raced early then was unbalanced on the turn, slipping around a bit while Maldivian was kicking. All this dulled her sprint but she picked up late. The blinkers will come off and winkers will go on. Williams had said he really only felt her motor when she caught sight of Maldivian. Winkers will help her. Her sprint is devastating when she is relaxed early and can balance up, like most horses I suppose. My one query is that if she can become unbalanced around Caulfield will she be ok at MV? She handled it well last year and while the track is tight I believe that the surface on the turn is more to blame at Caulfield.

Just my theories.
