Craig Interview On 5AA

Let's just say that I am just curious on how you have come to that conclusion. I find it rather baseless. ;)

On Port specifically, they finished ahead of us in 2007 and won two finals to our zero. Given that they were only a few months away from a bottom four finish and tanking for draft picks, that should be a major worry for the Crows hierarchy and put our finishing position in 2007 and 2008 in some perspective.

For mine it finished 3 weeks before that. ;)

I think you guys gave up too early and too easily. I hope your club does better next season because if it doesn't there wont be any excuses left.
The excuses that your coach and Mike Molthouse used, -i.e: The teams in the finals have a shorter pre season and therefore start the new season with a handicap- does not wash, as Brisbane proved in 2002-3-4. and Geelong have proved this year.

Editing quotes? How Bay 13 of you.
...
Stuffed if I know how come they're different.

You either edited your post or MD is having some fun of sorts.

Why were we the only team in the eight who had kicked more behinds than goals?

This is the only quote of yours that is on the money in regards to our winning or not winning a flag. But it has been happening for far too long for which nothing seems to be happening in trying to fix it.

Hudson, hailing from WB zone and feeling unfairly dealt with mid season due to action taken against an indiscretion that wasnt isolated, sought to create a situation that would return him to the Bulldogs.

He played for Werribee for a couple years, but he's actual a Queenslander and late comer to the game competitively.

Isn’t he originally a Melbournian and then moved to Queensland as a teenager (for uni) before taking up football?

It's interesting that when you finally respond to a request to provide your thoughts rather than the usual one line sniping, you expose yourself as really having no clue - just an above average vocabulary.

ah look, i worked out your number a long time ago. an average plodder, and not very happy about it. you ought to learn to keep your envy under control.

Hudson, hailing from WB zone and feeling unfairly dealt with mid season due to action taken against an indiscretion that wasnt isolated, sought to create a situation that would return him to the Bulldogs. This was easily done - AFC is on record as not offering contracts that extend into a player's 30's. So all Ben had to do was demand it. He knew AFC wouldnt budge. If they dont budge for the champions of the club, why would they budge for a late bloomer coming back from a reco? WB were in on the game from an early point, as their need for a ruckman was well documented. Case closed, deal done. (And btw it's not a stretch to suggest that Welshy's surprise move to the same club was borne from one or two late night drinking sessions between the two....far too coincidental otherwise.)

um... were you deliberately trying to miss the point, or is it just yet another happy coincidence?

put another way - medicore analysis, leading to a nonsense conclusion.

1. he's a queenslander
2. his contract demands were not over market

If you believe it was as simple as Huddo being low-balled, you're really just very simple and naiive. As someone else posted in this thread, what we hear in the media is about 10% of what actually goes on.

yawn.

Jon Hay & Nathan Thompson say hi :D

that's 4 first round picks right there.

No - it was only 3 picks actually and only 2 first rounders ...

2005 pick 18 & 2004 picks 10 and 26

The draft picks were used on Max Bailey, Chris Egan and Matthew Little. Of those, only Bailey is still on their list and he has only played 4 games (none this year).

Although they did a fair bit of trading the only one that's really paid off was in 2001 when they traded Croad and McPharlin for draft picks 1, 20 and 36. Pick one was Luke Hodge and pick 36 was Sam Mitchell. No team will ever give up that much for 1 player ever again.

Stupid thing from Freo's POV was that when they returned their prized recruit to the Hawks they only got pick 10 in return

no, you missed the pick 14, which was on traded from North Melbourne as part of the Hay deal.

you didn't actually think hawthorn traded Lonie for pick #14 did you? my you must be new to this game. :D

and you're totally wrong in thinking the outcome of the picks has any bearing on the nature of the transactions - which was picks acquisition.

they sold experienced players to satisfy their strategy of loading up on draft picks, and their principle partner turned out to be North Melbourne.

in case you hadn't noticed, not only was the Freo transactions some time ago, there was a whole different regime in place. but seeing as how out of touch you seem to be, or new to this at least, maybe you didn't know this? ;)

Um, aren't Croad and McPharlin two players?

The relevance of the Freo trade (which you forgot about ;)) is that it's the only one of all their trading since 2000 (with NM, Freo, Carlton, West Coast, PA, Sydney) where the resulting draft picks are actually part of the current side.

I think finishing 15th in 2004, 14th in 2005, 11th in 2006 built their side. Not trading their experienced players (with the exception of the Freo trade).

This got them Roughead, Lewis, Franklin. Hodge and Mitchell came thanks to Freo.

Don't even understand what you are saying here. Like ... totally. I think you feel there is an intrinsic up front value to a draft pick that doesn't change even if the draft pick is ultimately a dud.

I don't agree .... but

BOTTOM LINE - lets agree to disagree

Talk about missing the point...he came to us out of Werribee, and therefore had exposure to the Bulldogs system. I seem to recall WB were interested in him as well the year we drafted him. As for his contract demands, again you miss my point, they were contrary to AFC policy which was well documented.

Aw c'mon...wake up and make some sense for a change :thumbsd:

Yeah he was born in Werribee, but he moved to Queensland when he was 8. I believe he even played league for a couple years as a teenager, so his Queenslander 'identity', for lack of a better word is pretty strong.

Played for Mt Gravatt Vultures and often comes back for a visit when he's in town.
