Cricket Discussion - Part 2

Happy to be corrected, but I believe that Ireland will be making their Test debut tonight in Dublin, in a one off Test against Pakistan. Good luck boys - it'd be exciting to see you succeed at the highest level.
You are correct

Ireland had a shocking debut. Were 4 for 7 before getting to 130 in reply to Pakistan's 9 dec/310. Do better in 2nd innings and were 0/64 at stumps on day 2, well Day 3 officially but there was no play on day 1 as plenty of Irish rain.

So Australia has cancelled the proposed Bangladesh tour of Australia for 'financial reasons'. One would have thought a tour by the Bangladeshi's prior to the India tour would have been worth the money. It would have given the Australian selectors a chance to sort out a batting order in the absence of Smith and Warner, given the reformed side a chance to bond after the ball tampering episode, given the new coach Justin Langer the chance to promote this new brand of gentlemen's cricket to the world, not to mention promoting the game in a developing cricketing nation.

This is a disgraceful decision for a country that is trying to build bridges to the rest of the cricketing world. It looks like money is now the over riding issue with Cricket Australia.

AB de Villiers called stumps on his international career

Ireland did better in the second innings and scored 339 with Kevin O'Brien 118, Stuart Thompson 53, Ed Joyce 43 and Mohammed Abbas 5/66. Kevin O'Brien also top-scored in the first innings with 40. Pakistan knocked off the 160 required with 5 wickets to spare.

NOTE : This is not a Pakistan second XI. It is the same team that is currently playing England at Lords.

I haven't watched the Al Jazeera program yet (see below), but going by the scorecard for the test in question, this sounds like a load old bollocks - they were just playing for the draw...

Cricket Australia requests evidence on fixing claims during India Test match

UPDATE: Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland says there is no credible evidence linking Australian players to corruption after claims were made in a documentary against two unknown players.

Al Jazeera aired the allegations on Sunday, shining the spotlight directly on last year's drawn Test between Australia and India in Ranchi as one of several to be questioned across the world.

In the documentary, a criminal claims two unnamed Australian batsmen were paid off to bat slowly during a period of play in the Test when he calls from the ground in Ranchi.

If you get a chance, take a look at the Cricket !egends show at the lunch break of the second Eng/Pak test. Henry Olongo is featured and he does a great job of singing Nessus Dorma.

Hip hip hoo bloody raaaaaay.

James Sutherland has announced he is going to step down.

Only problem is this pretentious campaigner has decided he is so valuable to Cricket Australia that they will need twelve months to prepare for his successor. If CA have any intelligence they will tell James to * off and start looking straight away. The chances are it will be a job for the boys anyway as Sutherland's successor will likely come from the inner sanctum of one of the State Cricket Associations.

Important that Cricket Australia get the right successor. Hopefully it will be someone who doesn't see the need to run around cancelling Test Matches for the sake of a dollar. Hopefully it will be someone who appreciates that a Test Match or two in the top end of Australia might help an emerging nation or two, help give some young Aussies cricketers a leg up and promote the game in Australia's north.

Now for Pat Howard.

He is prepared to stay for up to 12 months whilst a replacement is found.

What did I tell you, favorite for the job is SACA CEO Keith Bradshaw who is in front of WACA CEO Christina Matthews who was all at sea in the contract negotiations last year. Sutherland had to assume direct control from Matthews when talks hit an impasse. If they give it to Matthews on the basis of a gender Australian cricket is stuffed.

And then we lose another straight after 4/97

159/7 - even the Manchester weather is being unreliably reliable - no help from that quarter...

That 0-5 result is what we deserve. If we are going to be the conscience of the cricketing world we have to accept the consequences. No other cricketing nation would have banned it's best two batsmen for twelve months. In fact some nations would have denied anything happened.

To make matters worse Sutherland and Co cancel a test series against Bangladesh which would have provided the chance for Justin Langer to sort a few issues out before we face the Indians.
