Gees mate, he's hardley had a chance with the ball, that's not his fault. He's certainly in a slump with the bat, and he knows it which is really screwing with his confidence. First innings he got a Jaffa that was close to unplayable, second innings he was on par with the others...bamboozled.

Maxwell would have been no better than Marsh, would have been given a couple of overs and most likely scored less runs. He's not a test cricketer.

He hasn't had confidence with the bat for over 12 months so why the hell was he picked to play in the hardest conditions in the world? He didn't deserve his spot and he got found out, both with bat and
Ball.

Travis head is a superior batter and bowled well in the recent one dayers while maxwell didn't bowl at all. A bit of a howler not picking him in the squad in my opinion

Good point. I also would prefer Head to Maxwell.

Has the right temperament to play on the sub continent too.

I think this test indicated why people are critical of Lyon. Brilliant in the first innings and nothing in the second when he really should have been leading us to a comfortable victory.
Lyon bowled well in the second innings, was a tad unlucky, (think he used it all up in the first!)

At the end of the day, you have to give credit to the Indians. Not to lose a wicket in the last session yesterday won them the test.

Yeah, Lyon had 3 chances missed in his 1st spell. Take them and is a different story.

VIRAT Kohli has followed up India’s series levelling victory in Bangalore by launching a scathing attack on Australia where he all but accused Steve Smith and his team of cheating.

Smith admitted he was wrong to glance up at the dressing room when contemplating whether or not to lodge a DRS referral, but Kohli spat the apology back in his counterpart’s face by declaring Australia had systematically resorted to the illegal practice during the Test.

Relations in the Border Gavaskar trophy are now their worst breaking point since Monkeygate, after a taunting Kohli declared the 75-run second Test triumph the sweetest of his career, while at the same time attempting to trash the reputation of the Australian dressing room.

Sounds like you're excusing away a sub standard bowling effort by Lyons in the 2nd Innings. 0 for 82 from your supposed top line spinner on a Turner of a Track is simply not good enough. Having said that I also felt Starc in particular was poor at the start of the 2nd Innings. :stern look

That game was won at two different points: the toss and the beginning of India's second innings yesterday. They batted well, but we were really poor at the beginning of their second innings. We failed to capitalise on the momentum we had built during our first batting innings. Our lead was gone far too quickly and with nowhere near enough wickets taken.

As for the toss, it was always going to be a tough ask to bat last on that pitch. Everyone said that chasing anything over 150 would be difficult and so it proved to be.

Apparently the next one pitch is going to turn as much, if not more than, Pune. With that in mind:

OUT: M.Marsh
IN: Maxwell

Very good autopsy of this match kangaspurs.

Kohli's got up a head of steam and he's spouting quotable headlines to ensure he has their 13th man onboard, the Indian press/ public/ and crowds.

Still on cricket, but aside from the Indian series........

I heard a radio interview with Aussie fringe bowler Jon "Dutchie" Holland post midnight tonight and he was asked "who do you follow in the AFL?"

"The Kangas!" was his answer.

I reckon you can count the true all rounders, who would be picked for their batting if they couldn't bowl and vice versa, on one hand.

Miller
Sobers
Botham
Kallis
Maybe Kapil Dev
Flintoff at his best, but I feel like his best wasn't sustained enough.

The rest are bowlers capable of the odd good knock. Imran, Hadlee, Pollock, Cairns, Benaud, Gilmour wouldn't have got a game if they couldn't bowl.

yep good points Rob
only changes for me
I thought Imran Khan was better than Kapil Dev and might have got a gig as a batsmen , especially later in his career
Maybe Cairns too (due to lack of depth in NZ cricket)

Bradman would have struggled on that track

Riveting cricket though.
You wouldn't want every game on pitches like that but it does show the authorities that in order for test cricket to have a point of difference you need pitches doing something to encourage the sort of drama that only test cricket can generate

This is infuriating on so many levels.

The flippant creation of that term for a racial sledging act.

The flippant quip about the incident as if it was some kind of joint incident between the teams. No it wasn't. It was an Indian player insulting an Australian player on racial lines.

Which leads me to the usual conclusion, that apparently it's not racist if it's done by an Indian player.

Can only imagine if an Australian player had used a derogatory term towards an Indian player on the lines of race...

They're the Essendon of cricket. Sweep it under the carpet then refer to it retrospectively as if it's something they had to endure too, little innocents that they were.

Excellent post. They are always the victims, butter wouldn't melt in their mouths.

Kohli may be an excellent batsman, but he is an embarrassment to international cricket. The sledging and on-field antics are irritating, but as an Aussie I can't really complain about that - we mostly give as good as we get. It's the constant off-field controversy that makes me lose respect for him. He's arrogant and rude, he doesn't show a whiff of respect to his opponents in press conferences, he takes cheap shots at opponents in press conferences because they sledged him on the field (anyone remember him saying he had no respect for Australia in a press conference the last time they toured here?), he's disrespectful and shows dissent to any umpiring decision that doesn't go his way (and never seems to be punished), and he acts sanctimonious beyond anything I've seen. He got a tough one in the second innings, but it wasn't a fault per se with DRS (which worked exactly the way it's supposed to), and yet his antics as he walked off were as bad as Smith looking for help on his DRS call (which was also a very bad look). Most teams are pretty aggressive in the sledging department nowadays (excluding the Kiwis), but every team other than India seems to be able to respect their opponents off the field.

I think the *Essendon analogy is a great one. Any problem or issue is never their fault, and they should be excused from everything simply because of who they are.

As an aside, if you think it's bad on here after a loss, go and read the comments on any article on India on cricinfo - absolute cesspool of the highest order. The kind of thing you lose hope for humanity reading...

He's just trying to deflect the media away from his series average of 10!

That too, without a doubt.

Every time I saw the faux tough guy mouthing off he reminded me of this bloke.......

Yep. Did you? Sure he created some chances but he bowled no where near as well as he did in the first innings. More importantly he didn't take a "Wicket". Now don't give me he had no luck or his finger is ratshit after he fingered himself when taking 8 For in the First. Not. Good. Enough! :stern look

so what changes are we making for the next test? surely M.Marsh out...would like to Khwaja get given a chance, his form has been considerably better than S. Marsh.

I know there is S Marsh hatred but he was the Aussies top scorer (in the first dig). Im not convinced on Kawahja thinking back to England, Sri Lanka and India last time I don't see the required willingness to guts it out when things get difficult.

M Marsh yep he is on the block. Not sure who said it earlier but I agree not selecting Travis Head in the squad was a stuff up. I also thought Ashton Turner (had a good shield season) could have offered a bit. I think from the squad Agar is a good replacement for M Marsh, even if he went to 7 with wade at 6 you would probably get more than what Mitch is currently offering.

Good post Mr Nyah
Never had time for sledging and such rubbish as it turns into a " he said, they said" type crap.

Australia can hardly complain though . The Aussie teams showed plenty of disrespect to opponents going back, remember McGrath selecting his bunny for the series, or all the stuff about mental disintegration from Steve Waugh, not to mention Shane Warne.
Its just such a bad look . You should respect your opponent.
I also never got into the " say as many vile things as you like on the field, but once you get off you should be able to shake hands" bullshit. That's rubbish

anyway im just old fashioned which is why I spend most of my time in the grumpy old thread !

I played a lot of cricket, at a relatively high grade, and I could never stand abusive sledging. Witty stuff, funny stuff, clever stuff? Go for your life. Standing there cursing out the opponent and making threats about their loved ones? Vile behaviour.

I actually think the current Aussie team has come a long way, and have developed a better reputation, but unfortunately the stain of past generations still clings, and it's all the justification Kohli et al need to act like pigs and get away with it.

Rule changes have passed for International Cricket.

Come October, bats of over 108mm thickness will be banned in all cricket matches.

Oh well. That means I can't play a forward defensive with my knob any longer. :stern look
