Crane looks capable of running through the tail if he gets the chance.
MASON Crane has endured a horror introduction to Test cricket after returning the most expensive figures ever by an English debutant.

On an SCG pitch that favoured spin, the rookie legspinner went for 1-193 during Australia’s first innings of the fifth Ashes Test.

His figures surpassed Devon Malcolm’s 2-166 against Australia at Nottingham in 1989 as the worst ever by an Englishman in his maiden Test.

The runs from Crane’s 48 overs were the fifth most conceded by a debutant as Australia batted for 193 overs to establish a 303-run lead.

His return was the third most expensive by an Englishman and the third most expensive in an Ashes Test.

Crane, who bowled just three maidens, was only spared further punishment when Australia declared their innings at 7-649 halfway through the second session on day four.

I was watching and was hoping Smith would delay the declaration until Crane bought up his double century.

I think Crane is going to be a good one. Rough debut but lots to work with.
He bowled some fantastic deliveries, particularly to Mitch Marsh when he was new. The issue is consistency, which is hardly surprising for a 20 year old leggie. Still, I reckon him and Curran are pretty much the only positives the poms can take from this series, I like the way they both go about their cricket.

I’d throw in Overton also. Looks the goods

Well i've made a few runs ( 20 & 18 which for me in Bradman like) and asked the Captain if I could come in at six. Was really relaxed started the day as umpire and thought I could have some time to adjust........... So at 4/12  ol nn strides to the wicket. I bloody lasted eight over against these guys that apparently bowled quick, I say apparently cause I couldn't see it.

And bloody hell I go out to the worst bowler I've ever 'seen'. hard fought 9.

Anywho one James Pattinson may well be making his comeback via Doverton D grade one day side, I'm assuming he'll bat after me and I'll probably be expected to give some advice on how he should bowl.

He's a Doveton boy.
