Young blokes are mentally soft these days, so why should test cricketers be any different?
I didn't like Peter Lalor's excuse yesterday for Smith's form. Punter shot him down nicely. "Players have been away from home for 4 months" how do you think The Invincibles went when they had to travel to the old country by boat!! We have become a country of extreme softness.

Punter could never be accused of being soft, and it's one of the major traits that led him to being an elite player.

Yep that’s definitely it. Close thread, the oracle has spoken. “Softness” is the problem with everything that isn’t as good as it used to be. You’ve identified the defining cultural problem of the age. FFS.

You might not be old enough to see the difference. They're relatively weak mate, and it's societies fault.

Anyway, Green is setting the foundation of living up to his hype. Push on son.

Garry Lyon concurs

Garry's 10 v Melbourne in the 1994 Semi > ANYTHING Nate Dog Lyon has brought to the table IMO.

He's a spud, he gets wickets because he's shit and players go after him after being locked down by Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc. Averages a pathetic 33 in Test Cricket and people bang on about him like he is good.

He bowls one good spell a summer, and it's never when we actually need him to bowl us to victory.

Just Play Patto or Swepson and move on.

come on mate. Lyon is a very good bowler. Getting players out who are aggressive against you is a skill too.
He also makes your quicks more effective because they can rely on him to tie up an end while also a legitimate wicket taking option .

why would you toss out a proven spinner with 300 test wickets for some young pretender ? no selector in world cricket would do that. Not unless he has a real drop in form

Lyon is a massive impostor.

You and I have always been of a similar view on him. Massive imposter is a bit harsh, but he's so vanilla. GOAT speaks to how poor our off spin stocks have been forever.

Ashwin showing what a truly great off spinner does.

Lyon is a massive impostor.
a 391 wicket imposter? pretty impressive in itself.

also, Lyon is far, far away the problem in this particular match.

Most other test nations would kill for Lyon, our batting has been an issue for years, need to have some drastic changes
