I noticed today that (according to the TOTE Sportsbet website) Australia has drifted out to $2.75 to win the tournament after their 2nd loss in the Chappell-Hadlee series. Last week when I checked, they were at $2.40. Does anyone think this will drift out any further before the World Cup starts, or should I put my money on now?

Anyone else have any other tips for the World Cup?

I will be.
Might go and throw a hundred or so on them.
Probably will be paying around $8-9

Maybe throw a bit on Gayle for player of the tournament as well.

If they can bowl alright they will win it. Lara, Gayle and Chanderpaul to have huge series.

Tough one... If we had our full side and lost three straight against NZ we would probably have drifted out to 4's, but seeing there is no Ponting, Gilly, Lee or Symonds.... The bookies are being cautious.... I think on recent form 2.75 is pathetic odds. Dont they have to 5 games straight to win the cup???

DO the math that means each games they will be paying less than 1.2

Thanks HeLMie, I hadn't really thought of it that way. I'm still pretty confident that Australia will win, but I might just back them in individual match betting all the way instead.

It will be interesting to see the markets for leading run-scorer and wicket-taker.

I have been saying for 6 weeks to back New Zealand & The West Indies and too take Pakistan in any match that they look incapable of winning, they are a strange mob those Pakis and will lose to Holland and then come out and smash The South Africans by 10 wickets.

How is the tournament structured though?

You play round robin games with 4 teams in 4 pools. The top 2 go through to the next stage which then becomes a final 8.

Winners thru to semi final and so on.

We have Sth Africa, Holland and Scotland in our group so basically we are guaranteed to make it through to the final 8, even with a loss to Sth Africa in the opening game.

SO what happens if Holland and Sacotland beat us also, are we still basically gauarantted to make the Final 8. ;) ;)

Those aussies may drift some more after recent events.... haha... sucked in to them. Only thing I hate about it is that Brett Lee isnt in the squad so they'll suggest he would have helped... I think he would make it worse, he isnt economical and stinks... theres my vent for the day.

Everyone has jumped off the Australian bandwagon, but soon you will all jump back on.
They arent intrested in these one dayers, the real business starts next month.
Before the summer Ponting had 3 goals, 1)Ashes, 2)World Cup 3) Champions Trophy, i don't see theTri-Series or the Chapple-Hadlee tournament in there.
Put your house on Australia at the World Cup.

Australia's bowling line up is no good enough to win a world cup. With similar ground sizes in the West Indies to that of New Zealand grounds we will struggle to restrict teams to 300.

I saw Australia has drifted out to $3.10 based solely on the news that Lee won't be playing. I don't think he is that crucial imho. I think with the likes of Gilly, Punter and Clarke (more specifically his off-spinners) will see a vast improvement in our side. In the CH series, 2 blokes, namely Taylor and McMillan played the innings of their lives to beat us. This sort of thing won't happen in the World Cup as Australia have the ability to build pressure when it is required.

I am more than happy to take the $3.10.
