Re: Crows plan Walker talks!

It could have something to do with the fact that we, as a team, have regressed over those two years. Tippett is not as affected by this as other players, but he's still affected.

Try to recall our midfield delivery in the second half of 2009, and compare it to the slop we're serving up now. I think you'll figure out where the other 15 goals have gone.
Sheesh....

What do you think my ENTIRE point has been?

Have a look at our ****ing midfield before we start laying blame on those further up the ground.

Re: Crows plan Walker talks!

Yes we do - which is why for the life of me, I cannot figure out why some posters consider one of the biggest problems to be the defensive pressure of a 21 year old key position forward who is currently our leading goal kicker this season.

I don't think anyone here thinks that it's "one of the biggest problems", but it certainly is a problem, and this is a thread about Tex.

The club should be trying to fix all obvious problems, not just the biggest ones.

Re: Crows plan Walker talks!

The only reason that is an issue, is because Neil Craig made it a major focus point in dropping him. People only notice that crap, because they are aware of it. If he didn't say anything, it wouldn't be an issue.

Yes, maybe he could chase a bit harder and add a few more tackles into his game but it shouldn't be a focus point on how he is going as an AFL footballer.

Disagree. I think Walker's a major talent and I love him in our side and at our club this year and hopefully beyond.

However putting in 100% effort (of which defensive pressure will be one component) should be a non-negotiable. IMO he does not try hard enough when he doesn't have the ball and this kind of attitude can often be corrosive in a team environment. He has to be held accountable for this deficiency in the same way Symes does for poor disposal efficiency, etc, etc. Also to say this wouldn't be noticeable unless highlighted by Craig is disingenuous - some of his poor efforts are simply glaring.

This doesn't mean (and shouldn't be construed) as saying Tex's negatives outweigh the positives...not even close, but you have to hold people to standards and I think this is a hallmark of how great teams (like Geelong and Collingwood) operate.

Kurts looked pretty shit for best part of a season & a half, about time he looked handy.

As our highest paid player, lets call it baby steps towards delivering on his contract

Of course our insistence on playing him the entire 2010 season with a knee injury didnt help either.

Roo on MMM juat said "rumour" that Tex is going to be dropped and playing for the Legs on Saturday. Ditz then put in that he'd been to Broken Hill and every is saying he is gone to GWS. "rumour"

If Tex does get dropped as our leading goal kicker playing against the Suns Craigy and the rest of the bloody coaches have lost the plot!! On MMM right now.

It's such a hard one, because he bloody refuses to learn and fix his issues, which no one can deny exist.

However this is surely gonna see him go.

The question is: will we miss him?

I'm not so sure that the answer is yes. It's certainly not as categorical as it was before people opened their eyes and realised that his shit really does stink.

I agree Vader, will we miss him?? He could be a superstar but I'm worried he's going to be one of those players who you look back on after their career and say they just didn't work hard enough and unfortunately never realised their potential. The game is littered with these players who just never went on with it cos they didn't want to work hard enough. I'm happy for him to go. It may be the best thing for him. I hope he twigs what is required. I'd rather him be a gun at GWS than stay and just be an average player.

Yes of course, are you stupid?

The most naturally talented forward we have had since the great number 6 (not griffin). He has plenty of time to iron out deficiencies in his game, he is still only what 20 or 21? FFS get a grip, he has won us multiple games already. You go on recently about how Craig has no cattle to work with yet you want to get rid of our most talented player.

But sure, lets play big hack Jim Sellar instead, who is next to useless, but he tries so hard...

Surely that is worst case scenario?

Firstly - the problem is that players like Symes are never held accountable for their poor disposal, while a supremely talented forward who is our leading goal kicker is held accountable for his defensive pressure (and to be honest I don't think issues surrounding his work ethic are as bad as its made out to be) On top of that a player such as Hendo who has been equally as soft for the entire season has been able to maintain a spot in the side. It all boils down to Tex being made a scapegoat again. It's a bloody joke. And if you want to look at Collingwood - while effort is a non negotiable - so is talent regardless of age, seniority and golden passes. A Symes type would never have a spot in the Collingwood side at the expense of a far talented, but less experienced youngster.

At a clubs like Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne and Gold Coast who have highly skilled midfielders he'd be All Australian guaranteed.
Shaun Rehn agrees with a lot of us in and says Taylor should be played at Full Forward to get the best out of his ability.

Surely that is worst case scenario?

mate what I mean is i wouldn't hold him at any cost. if we have to let him go i'd rather see him go and do well rather than hold him and he doesn't go anywhere. Hope that explains it.

Good post expect for the attack on Jimmy Sellar and calling someone stupid.

I think Walker is still a good 2-3 years away from his best football and I think he will be amazingly good. In my mind he is gone though and if he is - i wouldn't be averse to dropping him for the rest of the year and letting Smack and Tippett run the forward line.

Firstly, he's yet to win us ANY games, let alone multiple games. Right now he's rapidly heading towards Cupido territory - all the talent in the world, but a dismal failure without the application to back it up.

Please point out where I suggested that Sellar was a better player? FWIW, Sellar probably will be his replacement and the team will be stronger for it - McKernan will spend more time in the forward line & Sellar will play in defence. Overall we'll win out, because Walker has given us precisely nothing over the last 2 weeks - even if Sellar offers us something, that has to be better than nothing.

Vader you see everything as a mathematical equation and are unable to make value judgements about a player's ability and ultimate worth to the team.

Having said that, you'd fit perfectly in Neil's coaching box.

The posters who think it is ok to not work hard if you are supremely talented have no idea about team sport or business for that matter.

Ulimate worth to the team. So for walker that would be to kick goals or set them up right? 1 Goal, 1 Goal Assist and 2 Goal Contributions in the past 2 games combined. 6 inside Fiftys tho.

But at his best, he is brilliant!

Against Carlton he was involved in 8 goals, 4 himself and 4 contributions. There is no argument that he can be great when he is on, but when he is off he doesnt work hard enough to win the ball.

Linsay Thomas from the Kangas is a brilliant example. 2 years ago he was a flashy forward who went hot and cold (like tex) and now he is that as well but he is consistantly a pressure machine.
