Thats exactly the comparison I am making.

This time last year 196cm Zane was listed as a Defender on the Lions website (his 2nd year on the list). He played his first two seasons as a defender and on the wing.

Archie is 197cm and has as much chance of becoming a ruckman as Zane.

Once again - for the record - I dont think Zane is a ruckman. He is a defender who can chop out in the ruck. Similar to Tex.

i havent seen this guy play. Can he jump? legit question. i presume that with this rule teams will now experiment with shorter leaping players who are mobile.

Have I got some good news for you 3!

You can now stop complaining about our lack of ruck stocks! We also invested in the ruck position, very recently in fact!!!!

Archie Ludowyke - 197cm - Pick 53! Had more hitouts as a junior than Zane!

Look at us spending resources at the position - just like the premiers.
Did you watch the game? Cody rucked. When Ludo plays for us as a ruck, you might have a comparison.

If we had a situation like Brisbane - I am sure he would ruck in a preseason game like Cody.

Brisbane were missing Fort, Draper, Smith, Hipwood, Andrews, Allen, Payne. 7 of their 9 tallest players were out - leaving their two tallest players to get smashed in the hitouts.

If we were missing 7 of our 9 tallest players this week - McAndrew, ROB, TT, Toby Murray, Curtin, Finbar and Nick Murray. - who would we play in the Ruck? 197cm Archie, 195cm Worrell, 195cm Butts, 194cm Indy Cotton, 192cm Walker, 192cm FOG?

If nuts and candy butts. Cody is 200cm. You don’t know the Lions don’t plan on developing him as a ruck and given how stacked they are up forward, makes sense too.

So one game played - one game ruck.

$800k for a role player would be insane, there’s no way he’s on that coin.

We are paying that much for role player Cumming.

Gave the ANB situation a bit more thought.

ANB would be up there IMO. It's not like he was on his last legs and coming home. Sure he wanted to come to Adelaide for family reasons but I dont think he was coming here on a pay cut.

He was 28 when he signed a 4 year deal. It will be his last big contract.

And you’d think Laird would have been heavily front loaded. He’s been contracted throughout our crap period where we would have needed to frontload a lot to meet the 95% minimum.

There are a lot of assumptions as to all of the contracts as unfortunately. I still think that ROB would be around the 15th highest paid at the club.

Oh come on. You dont even believe what you are arguing now.

So Brisbane missing 7 of their 9 tallest players didn't force Curtin into the ruck?

C'mon.

I didn't watch the game, but you said you did. How did Curtin look in the ruck? Looks like had 5 hitouts from 39 ruck contests.

So one game played - one game ruck.

And Kamydn McIntosh played one game in 2025 where he had as many hitouts as Cody Curtin in his preseason game.

Do you consider him a ruckman too?

I’d suggest at 200cm and his frame he’ll be spending a fair bit of time in the ruck over his career.

Screams Key Forward to me. Watch his highlights.

He can still be a forward with ruck minutes.
Even Thilthorpe as a no 2 pick has near 400 hit outs so far.

Which is different to being a ruckman.

TT was drafted as forward, developed as a forward and played as a forward.

In 2025 - TT had 97 CBA's (less than 4 per game).

They’ve got 3 big young forwards already, reckon his best shot will be ruck will it not?
Draper might continue to be injured for eternity.

Band 2, highly unlikely to be $800k. And he wasn’t recruited as a role player, he was meant to be a high end difference maker, he’s just turned out to be Dmac 2.0. What a shape keeper he is for us.

Disrespectful to the great man. Dmac was better than what Cumming produced in 2025.

It pains me to say, Dmac was rarely
worse. Cumming hit up about half a dozen sublime kicks and had one quarter where he got it 10 times, otherwise he was droppable.

What I find amusing is that it became fact that our wings aren’t meant to get the footy. Until Curtin starts racking them up, and then it’s fact that 1 of the wings isn’t meant to get the footy.

I guess Isaac was playing against instruction that quarter that he got it 10 times. Maybe it wasn’t injury that sent him to half back, perhaps it was because he’d gotten the pill.

Regarding ROB's contract negotiations...

I wonder if he considered retiring last year to focus on his medical career.

Probably unlikely, but not a bad card up your sleeve when there's no other interest you can leverage.

Why would he?

It's not like hospitals aren't going to exist in 10 years.

If he had no offer from anyone else, is the assumption. It could have been a choice between an offer at Adelaide he wasn't crazy about or focusing on his medical career.

Probably unlikely he used this as a negotiating tactic. It is an interesting thought, if the list management team were looking at a scenario with no Sam Draper, I assume they looked at other options that didn’t pan out, then the prospect of ROB retiring. They then cough up 3 years.

Just a thought.

I don't think so, seeing "I'm not crazy on this, so I'm going to take an offer that is ~4x decrease in my yearly earnings" seems more sabotage then a genuine move. Whatever ROB got is probably equivalent to whatever interest was around for him in the league, and lets be real, someone like Sam Draper got paid.

If anything, it may have pushed ROB to go for an extra year in negotiations at a lower base rate.
