Do the Crows not have anyone on their list good enough to push Butts out of the team?
It's not enough for a defender to nullify and spoil...they have to posses elements of creativity and rebound and speed. Butts doesn't have that in his game.

Nick Murray, if he can get on the park.

Outside of him, when it comes to KPDs it's Keane (who is already playing), Worrell (who is also already playing and is much more suited playing as a third tall), and then Borlase (who is a less useful version of Butts). And I suppose Curtin is the other possibility.

I thought Butts was okay today. Nothing special but fine.

I disagree. We owned territory in the Q1 but struggled to score, Collingwood owned territory in Q2 but struggled to score. Q3 was a mostly a stalemate with both teams squandering their opportunities. Over the course of the match we controlled the stoppages, and Collingwood countered from defence. There was nothing in it all the way until shortly before 3QT.

It was the last few minutes of Q3 and the first half of Q4 where Collingwood got away from us, and if you look at the match worm you see a repeating pattern of "Collingwood goal, Adelaide behind", about three times in a row. If we nail those goals (and all of them were very gettable) then scores are practically level with ten minutes to go, and who knows from there?

I agree. I actually thought we started to get on top in ground ball in the third. I always expected them to have more composure and find a way to get the win but I thought we were a silly chance. As it happened, we had enough chances to get over the line.

The take away for me is there were so many moments where our lack of composure cost us goals. The Fogarty 50. The Cummings spoil that went inside instead of to the line. The run down of Berry. The run down of Rankine. The bad misses by Rachele, Rankine (x2) and Curtin. The bad errors by Nankervis in the first. So many avoidable errors, all of them opportunities to goal or errors that directly led to opposition goals.

There are plenty of games where you can point at Nicks and say he was to blame.

But this was a game of wasted opportunities and the players have to own that, not the coaches.

We aren't that far off, we just lack a tactician.

If we could just get rid of Nicks - would be so fun to watch us give the finals a real go this year.
And be coached to develop some real assertive psych toughness that is needed to win arm wrestle games. Nicks does not have it.

We will have to do what Hawks did and target someone like a Brian Lake.

We were the better team and should have won. Collingwood got away with one. Their coach said as much. That's on Nicks, he's a dud. He could lose the unlosable game.

Weird take. Butts is in the team as cover for Murray. When he wasn’t playing and Borlase/a small was, Keane had to take the number one forward and struggled, he’s been much better since Butts has come in.

It’d be great if Butts could attack as well, but his ability to nullify has made the defence better as a unit.

Some years ago we once tried this stuff with an away camp to deal with mental toughness. The club itself couldn’t handle it, let alone the players……and Nicks has nothing in his coaching armoury.
I mean with a proper, well regarding sports psychologist. I would not associate regarding the time around the Camp with proper science-backed psychology.
