1. He's also been the leading goalkicker for a reason. I'm not his biggest fan, but really. We wouldn't be that stupid.
2. I forgot to add Pods/Taylor. But he doesn't play on a man does he? Cameron kicked 4 on Pears in 1.5 quarters and 2 on Hooker in 2.5 quarters. Kennedy was well beaten by Hooker.
3. Yoda_ has raised issues about Sikora, he's a bit on the lumbering side. Can't comment on Cameron
4. I doubt Billings will fall to pick 15-16. Fills a need at several clubs below us
5. How about the fact that Pears, despite playing 4 sides that are average at best, has conceded 8 goals, whereas Hooker has conceded 11 goals in his 13 games. And the fact that Hooker's DE this season is 81.5% suggests that his disposal isn't a liability anymore. I think you need to watch more games, because I can't fathom how you could think that Pears is equal, let alone better, at defending than Hooker

What's this about Sikora?

Kid's from a basketball background and a big lumbering lad. Not sure if he is AFL material, but has improved enough for a place in the VFL state team this year (although a couple of first choice guys were unavailable).

Doesn't offer anything around the ground but wins plenty of taps at VFL level. As mentioned, I'm not sure if he is AFL material, but having only been taking the game seriously for 4 years, he has improved drastically (2 years in Sandringhams development team, 1 full season in Sandringham's senior team and this year with us).

Not to many state league ruckmen available any more. Perhaps look to a tried and tested ruckmen for depth?

I'd agree with this, but I wouldn't be chasing players to replace these guys, but develop our own to replace these guys.

I feel the Ryder / Daniher combination replaces Bellchambers in 2 years time. Pears replaces Hooker as the 3rd tall and if the trade went down successfully, Boyd more than replaces Crameri.

Daniher, Pears and Boyd are all young players the club develops for the roles required of them

No issues looking for a more tried and tested ruckman - just went with Sikora since we've been working with him this season through his VFL role.

We are entering a window. Not re-building.

It's no longer about windows. It's about continual list management to ensure your side can challenge for a flag for as long as possible (like the Swans and Cats). That starting 22 could potentially remain largely the same for 10 years, and the players that retire along the way are staggered, providing you with time to replace them through drafting / free agency / trading.

We're closing into our "premiership window" and we have 5 blokes who haven't played senior footy midway through the previous year in our first 22, and another who's played 3 games in his career?

This side remains a premiership chance from 2015 until someone badly stuffs up keeping the list together, draft picks or trading.

No new data, just a bit of a redesign.

I was thinking of this yesterday myself - I can't really think of a single player from the doggies that the Bombers would consider in a trade with them (if they were to entertain a trade with them)

Crameri and someone else or a draft pick for Ryan Griffen.

He'd go nicely in our engine room!

Can anyone shed some light on who out of our Rookie list players should be delisted, retained or upgraded. I was hoping Dalgleish would come on as we could use his speed but unfortunately he hasn't consistently been in our best for the VFL squad. I'm guessing Corey Dell will be upgraded to the senior list next year as he has been pretty consistent.
What are your thoughts?

Well according to our two most frequent VFL watchers Yoda_ and Jack Package Dalgleish (or Daggers as I like to call him) is probably the most impressive, followed by Steinberg

Flattered to be put in the same category as Yoda, i've only been to 3 games this year.

In terms of how I personally rate them, I think they all have senior AFL list potential, but perhaps not our list. My view on rookies (I don't know if this is shared by others) is that at draft time you look for someone who has one or two legit AFL attributes, but might need to round their games out. And once they're on a list, you look for the ones that show the steepest development curve, persist with them and then turn the rest over unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

Dalgliesh i think has 2, his pace and his kicking, however still needs to work on other aspects of his game. Has real wing/HB/BP potential if he can solidify the defensive side of his game and also work on winning his own ball.

Steinberg I just like for some reason, i thought he looked a natural forward in 2011 (admittedly a limited sample I saw) and now looks a natural defender in year 3, which I think is pretty rare.

I love Hunter's attitude. Lacks polish, but is a hard worker and loves to smash people. Lacks a real weapon like Dalgliesh, and if he were to make it, would probably be as a tagger, defensive forward or back pocket (all roles he has played at various stages to varying degrees of success).

Dell i think has to be the clubhouse leader with 9 (i think?) games at the top level and as many goals puts him in the best position, but his style as more of an undersized medium forward, rather than a pure bottom feeding crumber may hurt him going forward, as much as I think he could offer a team in need of just pure firepower something very useful. We need someone unobtrusive who doesn't need a lot of touches, applies manic pressure and will work around our bigs, which i don't think suits Dell's game.

In order as far as just AFL quality, IMO: Steinberg, Dalgliesh, Dell, Hunter.
In terms of how they fit with our current list, IMO: Dalgliesh, Dell, Steinberg, Hunter.

Our needs are outside pace and a small forward, which puts dell in the box seat to stay on you'd think, but again, it wouldn't surprise me if he was moved on because he's not quite the type of small forward I think we need to compliment our talls.

Having said that, If I was to have a guess i'd say Dal and Steiny stay, Hunter and Dell get moved on.

Apologies for great wall of text, I wish someone offered me a recruiting job :rainbow:

Fantastic post. Thanks for the info.

Hardingham, Crameri, Colyer, Tbel, Hooker, Pears, Davey of the 2013 contract expirees above
WILL be at Windy Hill in 2014, all have or will have contracts in front of them shortly
not sure about Gumby, Alex Browne, Luke Davis, Jetta(even though he is signed till 2014) may be trade bait, will Hille, NLM, fletch, licha retire ?? anyones guess

would we look at Dal Santo, Cooney or Colin Sylvia in the Free Agency period ???
cooney is worth a shot at least IMO
we need another quick outside mid in the mould of Jetta from Swans or Andrew Lovett
probably the one player we lack to have a competitive flag side
we could also do with another polished goal sneak in the mould of Junior Boy Cyril Rioli as well ...delicious

The trouble with free agents is that there is usually a reason why they have not been offered the deal they'd like. Dal is old and past his best, Cooney is old and his knees mean any club would be mad to risk more than 1 year at a time on him and Sylvia has done a Kosi and has been threatening to live up to his potential of the last [X] years but has never quite got there (and may not ever get there). I think we have the makings of a very very good midfield coming up through the ranks, if we have the patience to wait for it to develop we'll have a much more sustained success than if we pay some mercenary a big chunk of our cap to come and play for a couple of years.

It's a concern that we still have 16 players out of contract - noting that some may retire/delisted, but there are 5-7 must signs still uncontracted. Its the second last of week of August.

You guys were really into Helbig until we stole him the pick before yours in the 2010 draft. What about our 2nd pick and Helbig? He has been dominating VFL. I'd even through in Nahas for free :p haha

Hahaha I think it was on the Dustin Martin thread that we decided we'd rather a pack of salt and vinegar chips as opposed to Nahas!

I don't even like salt and vinegar chips
