How important is D Johnson to the team?
Other than seemingly well like by his teammates, what are his other virtues?
Is he simply a rotating back player?
Could Mackie take his position (perhaps alternating with a forward when flooding occurs), to allow Prismall to be brought in to add more leg speed?

Just wondering your thoughts, as I like the idea of more leg speed in the team, and more of that fresh leg speed being rotated from the bench.

Dunno.

Backline plays better with him however... Not too shaby by foot and is a good at the Small defender/tagger role on players like Davey.

I do like it when he gets the ball and opposition supporters start abusing him because the nuff nuffs think it's Chappy.

So do the stupid commentators, all three got it wrong on a couple of occasions vs the Bulldogs.

IMO he has a good hard go at the ball, great for the backline. It lets guys like Rooke continue to play further up the ground. Which from way Rooke played on the weekend, needs to continue.

Very good honest player who i value very highly. Would be in my starting 22 every day of the week.

He should play every game next year, this ensuring that Chappy wins the brownlow with the hope the umpires mistake him for chappy i.e. Johnno gets 15 touches and a goal, Chappy 25 touches and 3 goals.... Overall, the umpires see Chappy getting 40 touches and 4 goals..

Same here. Tough, hard runner, gets his head in and tackles well. Regarding Prismall, I really like his run forward, it seems he may be a good winger or similar, setting up shots inside 50. I would like to see him play more games to get a really good idea about him but so far it's very positive.

Unless DJ shows himself to be a player as hard and tough as Rooke, I think Mackie should take his position immediately to allow a Prismall, Tenace, or next year Varcoe into the team. It's either DJ or Ling (or both) that needs to make way, in my need-for-speed modern football era opinion.
Trade time!!!

DJ is hard and tough.

Mackie played a good second half playing as a loose man in the backline.

DJ can and does lockdown on opponents.

Different players playing different roles and having a player like DJ in the team allows Rooke to be used as a tagger and not in the backline.

DJ is well underrated by most cats fans, He is a fearless mark and regularily flaots down into the foward line for a goal. He has had a terrible time with injuries and when the cats were doing well in the first couple of games. DJ was a big part of this.

According to my Dad that theory worked brilliantly for Alistair Lord! All Stewart's votes went to him.

In all seriousness I think David Johnson is pretty underrated. He's easily the strongest mark overhead of any of our small defenders, and when he wanders forward is a pretty accurate kick for goal. Not to mention being absolutely fearless with his attack on the ball. Much like Rooke. He's nowhere near as bad as people think. I like him a lot.

Judging by the response in this thread. Most Geelong supporters rate him highly like us which is great because he is a very good honest hard working player. :thumbsu:

except when didak continually fakes like he is going to kick with his non preferred right foot and dj falls for it time and time again.

he is prone to slade type free kicks.

and against quality forwards he struggles, though we really dont have someone to replace him so he will continue to bide his time til someone better comes along.

I think you have to be realistic. It's great to blow sunshine up all of our teams players, but the post your referring to is correct IMO... DJ does struggle against quality forwards and isn't as accountable as he probably should be. Being the reason HUNT gets the best small forward every week. I see DJ as a guy who will cut up any midfield in the VFL as he does, but isn't as good as the other Geelong mid-fielders, therefore plays in defence and isn't suited 100% to an acountable role.

Good team man though, and apparently a top bloke.. :thumbsu:

I agree with forssman and martyk.

I think he is a bit of a toiler and that's what is endearing about him, but against a quality forward he is lacking. That is not to say he hasn't done or does anything good in the side, he gives 100% and you can't fault that. But at this stage I think if a real quality small backman came into the side he would struggle to get a kick in the AFL side.

I love DJ.. We cant all be stars but this bloke is one every other member of the team wants in the side. You cant say morale isnt important. I was talking holistically about Forsmann not particulalrly this post.

ive been down with geelong since the days of micky turner, terry bright, etc churning around the park, so yeah, i do support geelong.

im not jilted, just a realist.

i have seen way too many mistakes made by dj to consider him a lock for a spot in our back half.
