If Danger did go to the pre season draft, which he won't, every single club would be absolutely stupid NOT to pick him up.

Even if he sat the year out, which he wouldn't, his currency at the trade table the following year would be enough to set up the future of that club.

That's assuming they were not able to convince him in that 12 month period to play on with them beyond the year.

Of course Geelong won't let that happen. You don't have a top 3 player in the comp say he wants to play for you and risk him potentially sliding from your grasp. Doesn't happen. Besides, they would be in the same position in 12 months as they are in now (potentially with more/better trade bait and picks).

A trade will happen, it's just a matter of whether we get licked or not.
Exactly, we need to hold firm

Yep, we've been saying it for ages. In terms of required players I can only think of 3;

Tippett - AFL blocked our attempt to accept 23 and White. Tippett got where he was going with only 2 clubs willing to pay near $1m for him. Only one of those not being us.

Ball - Got to Pies in the national draft with the old 2 year deal trick. Something like 2 years at $500k per year followed by a quick re contracting for a 3rd at $200k. AFL now saying they'll be seeing straight through this plan.

Stevens - Pies low-balled and turned their backs on Port to get him free in the PSD. Didn't quite work out as planned with Nick getting wooed during his time as a clubless player.
Not a big number and one out of 3 failed to get to their club of choice

Seems an absolute last resort ....often threatened though ....would have thought the mediation process would be last resort b4 draft

Reckon we'll take the compo pick and use the "wait until you see the whole picture" line.

We will get pick 9 and either a player but more likely a 2nd rounder

Should still be pushing for 2 1st rounders but can't see it

Hopefully we can optimise it all in trade /draft

Doesnt really achieve anything for us does it.

Swings and roundabouts, what we miss out on Danger we'll more than make up next time when opposition clubs realise that Adelaide are no longer a pushover.

On the other hand if we keep accepting scraps for fear of missing out then we'll find ourselves in the same position again in a few years time.

Henderson is not even worth pick 9

Vanilla KPP who has had one real good innings
was orginally a pick 8. Competent KPPs are hard to come by. Esp given he can play both ends.

Don't get me wrong I think paddy is worth more - but Henderson's market value is a first rounder I think.

We won't get the mega deal that many are after however we will better the compensation pick and force Geelong to give up.some currency

Just to clarify, Dwayne Russell said the crows wanted pick 9 + player because they feel they are in the premiership window now. They don't just want picks. Russell thought that player was cocky, but said Geelong wouldn't do that.
Been saying this for months. If we lose danger and don't get players ready to go we are in rebuild mode. Esp. considering a new coach is coming in.

Pick 8 means little now

2014 was Henderson's best season however has done little outside of that season

If Carlton can get a 1st round pick good on them however I wouldn't want to pay that currency, especially pick 9

Pick 9 and Murdock is my call
That's a first round pick and equivalent 2nd round

If it's #9 and a player .....has to be better than Murdock IMO

Pick #9 + Murdock + next years 2nd pick ....this i could live with

Considering we have Riley Knight and Rory Atkins as a result of the Kurt saga, I have faith that whatever the club ends up doing, it will work out. The key will be keeping players from here on and maybe recruiting a big name over the next couple years.

On another note, why the hell did Connors say Adelaide should accept the compo pick? I really can't understand the good about that, maybe he's just dumb and says dumb things, but on a serious note, if Adelaide were in a 50/50 position and then a Player Manager who is working directly against them comes out and says to take the compo pick, how would that ever sway Adelaide's decision? Does he really, honestly believe that someone at the club will go "He's right, guys, we need to just accept the compo pick and move on"? The far more obvious path would be "Screw you player manager, who the hell do you think you are coming in here messing with our business and then having the nerve to council us?" And then straight to matching the contract.

These Victorians are only saying this because they are banking on us not willing to risk losing Danger for nothing as if we have no cards in our hand. The reason their saying this is because they are incapable of empathizing with an Adelaide supporter. They haven't spent the time understanding our position and thus can't believe that we would be willing to let Danger slide as a statement to all other Restricted Free Agents that it's called "RESTRICTED" for a reason.

Maybe we need to let the club know that we, as supporters, are happy with the club taking the risk to lose Patty for nothing and understand the consequences involved in taking that path. Since Victorians are incapable of understand our position, maybe we need to make it a little damn more clear of how we actually F$%#ing feel and that this emotion we've been holding, 5 years in the making, will this time play a part in how we go about things.

That to me sums up everything that is wrong with FA and most of the power in the players hands, Henderson for pick 9 yet we cant get much more for Danger. That's bullshit. (I know their situations are diff) Not saying that that's what they may get just that it is a possibility. We should have been able to trade Danger last year, the AFL only seem to do a half measure of American sports when we copy them, it should be FA like the NBA.
