If Geelong really dont fear Danger ending up in a draft we have zero leverage. Im sure they will do their homework and figure out the likelihood of someone else taking him.

Lots of clubs will talk it up but I honestly believe none will pick a bloke against his will. His go home factor is a major issue.

Just my opinion FWIW.
If you were going to take him would you be telling Geelong that.

If they felt that why are they negotiating a trade. Cheapest way to get him is in the draft if they have that much leverage.

If you were a Vic club interested in Danger, what would you tell Geelong? Nah we won't pick him up.

Carlton, Essendon and Saints are also linked to a number of players, they've got money to spare
And Richmond sho just turned their back on Bennell. So presumably wouldn't have a huge amount to make up to reach Danger's reported asking price.

yeah it does, the "threat" of the PSD is legitimate for Danger and Geelong.

if he was happy to delay arriving there for 2 years he'd just wait here to become a FA.
Yep, and I hope he's sweating bullets right now about the possibility!

We need to match officially and then the poker game continues to its conclusion.

If Danger did go to the pre season draft, which he won't, every single club would be absolutely stupid NOT to pick him up.

Even if he sat the year out, which he wouldn't, his currency at the trade table the following year would be enough to set up the future of that club.

That's assuming they were not able to convince him in that 12 month period to play on with them beyond the year.

Of course Geelong won't let that happen. You don't have a top 3 player in the comp say he wants to play for you and risk him potentially sliding from your grasp. Doesn't happen. Besides, they would be in the same position in 12 months as they are in now (potentially with more/better trade bait and picks).

A trade will happen, it's just a matter of whether we get licked or not.

Here's an idea. <just for fun, I don't think this will happen>

Geelong start delaying, playing silly buggers at the start of the trade period - trying to stretch it out.

We go hard at GWS and offer them players picks for an upgrade to pick 8.

Then we trade with Geelong.

:p

<EDIT> actually just thought of something, if Geelong trade away pick 9 early on so they can say "We don't have anything to trade for PD" - how the hell are they gonna get him in the National Draft?

<2nd EDIT> I'm with you latinoheat - just a page or two behind!
Someone else raised both of these options earlier. I think trying to get pick 8 is one out of box. Trading away their pick nine before getting Danger would be extremely stupid and extremely dangerous

Geelong might have nothing to lose by Danger going in the draft but Danger has it all to lose. The draft is a far worse option for Danger than the crows he can't risk Carlton or Brisbane. We have a very good hand just have to call Conners bluff and be prepared to lose pick 14.

We hold out Danger will absolutely tell Geelong to trade for him or he will agree to a Coll/Hawks trade.

Stay the course and we will be rewarded. Not matching would be a pathetic move.

It's definitely the silly season. Adelaide will match and then trade with Geelong. We will get at least 2 first round picks or a first round pick and a player that we're happy with. At least. You all can hold me to that.

He was fairly firm on that the trade will be done early. And it will be a trade. He was adamant that compensation from RFA has never really been considered by either club, Geelong happy enough to trade and make it amicable (without handing over too much).

He said that the Crows were after a couple of draft picks or a draft pick and a player. He listed multiple players. Rowey is the one that locked in on the mention of Cockatoo and blew it out of proportion.

Rowey and a few callers then started going on about potential trades - the main one being repeated was Danger and Crows Pick 13 to Geeong. Pick 9 and Cockatoo to Crows. Geelong then trade 13 to Carlton for Henderson.

In short there was nothing of substance from that segment. Other than that Dwayne maintains that it will be a trade.
Great summary of exactly what occurred .....i would be the most amazed poster on this board if Geelong even remotely considered Nakia .....he's their future

IF Geelong are still chasing a ruckman as reported......could we be seeing a return of Rhys Stanley ??

For me ....more chance of Motlop than Nakia

Think a trade will be done.....it'll never get to RFA offer & match

Yep, we've been saying it for ages. In terms of required players I can only think of 3;

Tippett - AFL blocked our attempt to accept 23 and White. Tippett got where he was going with only 2 clubs willing to pay near $1m for him. Only one of those not being us.

Ball - Got to Pies in the national draft with the old 2 year deal trick. Something like 2 years at $500k per year followed by a quick re contracting for a 3rd at $200k. AFL now saying they'll be seeing straight through this plan.

Stevens - Pies low-balled and turned their backs on Port to get him free in the PSD. Didn't quite work out as planned with Nick getting wooed during his time as a clubless player.

Not a big number and one out of 3 failed to get to their club of choice

Seems an absolute last resort ....often threatened though ....would have thought the mediation process would be last resort b4 draft
