I am one on this board that doesn't rate Jaensch so not a good example from my view

Murdock is a 50 game player, has dine his apprenticeship and his best footy is still in front of him

I'm not convinced that either Jaensch or Hendo will continue to improve

I seem to be in a support jaensch crusade here but what do you mean about continuing to improve? I'd he never improved and we had his performances in the last year and a half for the next 6 years I'd jump at it. He was fantastic before his injury. 7th in 2014 b&f and I thought I read he was high in the 2015 count when he did his knee this year.

He has actually been improving in the defensive side anyway. Fair enough that some think he's a knob but on field he's been great.

Jaenschy's 2014 was fantastic.

Unfortunately he might have done his dash off field...

Was Woosha our main target or was it well established from a long way out that he was not in the running

None of us can say for sure

However if we get Pyke by design or not I do hold great confidence that it will end up being the right appointment

I'll tell you exactly what I think
1. If we preferred an untried assistant over woosha then we're crazy. Stone cold bananas

2. If woosha was never going to stay, and we held no hope of interest in him then why the **** did we make such a song and dance about Essendon tapping him up?

3. Why did Essendon go all cloke n dagger about meeting him? He was never staying, we knew that and didn't care, so why back door it? Why not go through the front door?

And let's not insult each other's intelligence by all this gentlemens agreement who ha, as that doesn't explain why we cared so much and why Essendon knew we cared so much

I am assuming because we had a final that we were preparing for and didn't want a situation where Woosha agrees to coach a new club and leaves in the middle of our finals campaign.

Like others, I'm going to be really interested in what we do during trade week if we do happen to accept the compo pick. We've been pretty creative with our trading lately, so I'm sure we'd be doing so with a plan in mind.

The AFL's equitable trade rule is a bit restrictive here, but hopefully it will mean we've sorted a deal out with Geelong that's weighted to our advantage, potentially involving compensation pick 14, which could prove a valuable asset.

I don't have a whole lot of faith in our list management and recruiting team to really play hardball here - we don't really appear to do this, and seem to be very keen to preserve amicable relations with other teams. But I could see us pulling off something completely unexpected that goes a long way towards addressing a number of holes in our list and leaves us pleasantly surprised, or as close to this as we can be, given that we really should be getting two top 5 picks at minimum here but won't get near that.

I reckon we should definitely try to make Geelong's 2016 first rounder part of the equation. They likely undervalue that pick, given the arrogance of the club and massive expectations on Danger improving their list enough to offset their retiring/aging champions and 10th place finish this year. I suspect it'll be worth a bit more come October 2016 than they expect, as they continue to fall down the ladder.

It's sure going to be an excruciating few weeks though... 2pm on October 22nd can't come soon enough.

Reckon we'll take the compo pick and use the "wait until you see the whole picture" line.
Isn't that true though?

I don't care what we get for Dangerfield as much as I care what we end up with over-all.

Fighting tooth and nail for something that amounts to hill of beans makes no sense to me.

If we have deals lined up, and know the currency we need to lock those deals in - then who gives a rats arse how the PD deal looks?

We all know that he is not a contracted player being traded - that is where you get market value or better. PD is not that.

Are we trying to get maximum value from the PD trade - or maximum benefit for the club?

PD is our best asset this off season though. Anything we can do with the compo pick we can do with Geelong's first two round picks.

I had 'dealings' with a fine young lass who happened to be a Geelong supporter on Grand Final day. I found her to be most amicable, and a pleasure to deal with. Lets hope the club she supports is the same.
Did she agree on one or two first rounders? :D

Both. They are one and the same.

More value from the Dangerfield trade = more benefit for the club.

Unless you can convince me that, hypothetically, Murdoch and a pick swap is better than getting an additional first round pick from Geelong?

I think I just want Geelong to pay something. Unless they're offering a huge contract, they should have to give something up for a restricted agent.

I know we won't get full value for PD so will look at the bigger picture at the end of the trade period. As long as we come out with a better balance list. But I like I said before, we may not know until maybe the end of next year on how well we did in this trade period.

Ah baloney

We were happy for him to be away from the club at that time so who cares what he was doing?

We were balls deep into him, and we didn't get him. outbid I suggest is the real reason, but who cares

My only objection is to being proud of having gotten a limp wrists do apology from the interstate raiders who came and took what they wanted

We're obviously matching the deal.
Pick 9 won't cut it either, there's no way the AFL would sign of pick 9 alone as adequate compensation for Dangerfield, think there's a few PlayStation trades going around here.

Sure, he can nominate into the draft, but if you want quality rfa's that have been matched then you need to make an adequate trade.

If he goes in the national draft, he'll be gone by pick 9 too, Geelong will NOT be able to pen a 1.5mill two year deal or anything like that due to draft tampering penalties. It's really up to Geelong on how bad they actually want him, because when another club gets him... Geelong will be forced to pay even more after Danger leaves that club after a year.

OK, what if pushing for that extra first round pick meant we missed out on a player or a deal in the trade period? We cannot be tied up with this one deal the whole time if the end result is just another pick.

What if pushing for that extra first round pick meant that Geelong don't trade? What then? Happy with nothing because at least we "pushed"?

Would you be happy getting great picks for PD - but not getting any trades done? I wouldn't. We need players more than picks IMO.

Pick 9 + Gregson and I'd be very content ... as long as we land some ready made players through trade after that.

You think the AFL would not allow a deal of PD for Pick 9?

We weren't even on a first date, stop making things up to suit your argument.

The claim from Geelong supporters that if Danger goes into the draft that Geelong will just put a price on his head makes no sense. If Geelong were prepared to do that, wouldn't it make more sense just to do that now and price Adelaide out of being able to match ?

Seems like an empty threat to me.
