Cancel the Ashes Test Cricket series too? Afterall, its a battle between "the colonial master and its renegade offspring"
you're mistaking me for someone with any interest in sport

but the ashes got their name from Britain being sore losers which I at least find amusing though I wouldn't care if cricket as a sport died off globally

the commonwealth games which originated as the British Empire Games were conceived and created to foster good will towards the British Empire

they were a political reputation rehab tool and celebration of British Imperialism from the start, not something I'm interested in my tax dollars supporting

How did you get hooked onto Bigfooty?

I used to have an interest in sport.

I'm all for people being able to play or compete, my preference is community sports rather than professional sports, but that's more about how much money goes to professional sports at the expense of our communities

I feel sorry for the individual athletes that will miss out on competing in the games but that is about the extent of my sympathy

there are other events and competitions, it just simply would not bother me if the last commonwealth games had already happened and it died

Seems to me there are enough sporting events going around that we don't need to keep one that celebrates colonialism and costs a lot of money to run

The Games are those of Commonwealth of Nations, an international organisation where membership is voluntary. They appear to be little different to the Francophone games or the Lusophony Games. Moreover the Games don't 'celebrate' colonialism. The current Commonwealth of Nations was formally constituted by the London Declaration of 1949 which modernised the community of nations and established the member states as "free and equal".

New members must "as a general rule" have a direct constitutional link to an existing member. The first member to be admitted without having any constitutional link to any existing member of the Commonwealth was Mozambique in 1995.

Yeah free and equal, sure...

Like I said reputation rehab for the British empire, a celebration of their colonial glory.

You know where they invaded countries, stole their wealth and murdered a lot of the original inhabitants of those places for not being British.

The same happened to them as well for many, many years

Who knew a global inflationary crisis and worsened supply constraints could change the economic calculus.

The Reserve Bank certainly didn't, which is the body that advises the state and federal governments on macroeconomic trends.

Inflation was always going to rise as the economy reopened and everything returned to normal.

They increased their lower house majority by a seat beyond the 2018 Danslide election and experienced a minor 2pp swing against. When people refer to an increased majority, it is in reference to the lower house.

Since then polling has suggested voters have a more favourable disposition than the 55 45 2pp result.

So it's not like the Libs are making up ground.

2.3% swing against is not a minor swing in Victoria.

I think the last platform was "We're just like Labor, but corrupt in a different way" Why else would they have Matt Guy as their leader?

Probably better.

Oppositions aren't usually corrupt because they have (far) fewer opportunities to do so. (beyond the low level stuff, like Qantas president's club memberships).

Given the chance, both major parties will do anything they think they'll be able to get away with.

may have misheard this but raf epstein said something to the effect canadians are blaming victoria for the withdrawel of their offer to host c'wealth games

appears, the anti-dan Qooker circle jerk has gone international :drunk:

[edit] article now on 'the costello' confirming this

Why is he refusing to attend?
its beyond hysterical watching bridget mckenzie demand transparency from andrews ..... it is trumpian in its breathtaking projection

Yeah free and equal, sure...

Yep. That's what the London Declaration of 1949 said, when the modern Commonwealth of Nations was established.,
Like I said reputation rehab for the British empire, a celebration of their colonial glory.

That's not what the Commonwealth Games is about. If you think it is, then you are mistaken or just ignorant.
You know where they invaded countries, stole their wealth and murdered a lot of the original inhabitants of those places for not being British.

Yeah thanks.

I'm well aware of what the British Empire did and didn't do. I've only been teaching it for the last 30 odd years.

Oh the irony in one of Grub Andrews sycophants calling someone else Trumpian, the I stand by Dan crew are a mirror of Trump's supporters

And what's that supposed to mean?
You're a clever chap I'm sure you can work it out.

Yep. That's what the London Declaration of 1949 said, when the modern Commonwealth of Nations was established.,

What can I say I don't subscribe to British propaganda

If the British hadn't "invaded" Australia, what would we be today? A Japanese outpost? An undeveloped, third world wasteland?
