Victoria could be forced to impose new taxes or levies to pay for the $34.5 billion Suburban Rail Loop East as the Andrews government faces a multibillion-dollar funding hole in its flagship project.
The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office said in September last year there was evidence the $11.5 billion value capture target “may not be achieved” and that the Department of Treasury and Finance had advised the government in August 2021 about “options for mitigating the forecast shortfall”.

Can Dan do anything right ? everything he touches just blows up in his face

Back on thread topic. Ambulance Victoria, a government authority, clearly does not believe Dan’s spin about there being no threat to power supplies in Victoria this Summer.

Ambulance Victoria will spend $580,000 on power generators in anticipation of outages.

Look Sttew there's a confidentiality deed that must be submitted before they give access to some of the tender docs.

What's dastardly Dan up to now?
Maybe Dan hurt his back in the car crash coz he was driving and that's why he fell down the stairs.
Maybe he is ordering generators for the ambos to keep them on side, so they don't spill the beans about what actually happened at the crash scene?
It's all starting to make sense now.

Maybe, but the tender specifically refers to power outages.

We got a letter from our electricity provider this week asking if anyone in the house relies on electrically powered life support equipment (including CPAP sleep machines).

Emergency services would generally be expected to be prepared for emergencies...Some of which involve the power going out.

Disaster contingency planning would be a normal part of their setup.

I agree that this might be getting looked at as a higher priority currently, but I'd expect (or at least hope) that it was always a thing for them.

- Generators for essential services are par for course, they are utilised when power goes out so of course a tender is going to reference this (as opposed to a generator under constant/regular use).

- Power retailers are required to record when customers requires any form of life support equipment - AER Life support registration guide 2021

Two non-issues.

Why would we sign a contract with the State & Federal Budgets under pressure:
'The Victorian Government announced the preferred bidder for the first tunnelling contract – the longest tunnelling package ever tendered in Victoria – on 29 August. It is expected to award the contract by the end of the year.'

'A consortium of CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction Australia will deliver the first tunnelling contract for Melbourne’s Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East project.
The consortium known as Suburban Connect will construct 16km of twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley.'

Tunnelling team chosen for Melbourne’s Suburban Rail Loop East | Ground Engineering (GE)

I trust those awarding contracts are aware of the litigious history of Acciona including here in Aus, for example
24 Feb 2023 — Spanish infrastructure giant Acciona has been sued by the entity in charge of a $511 million waste-to-energy plant south of Perth, ...

Signing this contract at this point of time is as irresponsible as the handling of the East West Link contract by both sides of politics costing the taxpayer $plenty.

Well given the massive cost blowouts from the idea dreamt up by Dan, you can’t expect any realistic figures to be used in their marketing either?
A quick google search suggests you dreamt up your numbers too. The figure is 70,000 daily trips but that would be very optimistic based on station uses in that area. 30-35,000 would be a good number from quick numbers I come up with from station usage along the proposed line.

From their own website….

Three transport super hubs at Clayton, Broadmeadows and Sunshine will connect regional passengers to SRL. The new line will carry more than 430,000 passengers between Cheltenham and Melbourne Airport daily by 2056, taking more than 600,000 cars off the road each day. But SRL is much more than a transport project.

From their own website….
Anything beyond Box Hill is not getting built at this stage and will have nothing to do with Dan. And secondly the bit you quoted is 600,000 cars off roads not train passengers. And maybe 400,000 plus passengers might be realistic in 30 years time. Although it does appear very optimistic to me

The 600,000 is the advertising they’re using on site of their current works.

Of course it’s optimistic, or just complete bullshit like their claim it would only cost $50 billion to build the whole thing when Dan dreamt it up, already up to $125 billion and rising..

I'm sure you can post a link to this advertising because I certantly can't find it on the site.

I wonder what the termination fee on this one will be.
