Victoria could be forced to impose new taxes or levies to pay for the $34.5 billion Suburban Rail Loop East as the Andrews government faces a multibillion-dollar funding hole in its flagship project.

The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office said in September last year there was evidence the $11.5 billion value capture target “may not be achieved” and that the Department of Treasury and Finance had advised the government in August 2021 about “options for mitigating the forecast shortfall”.

We got a letter from our electricity provider this week asking if anyone in the house relies on electrically powered life support equipment (including CPAP sleep machines).

Emergency services would generally be expected to be prepared for emergencies...Some of which involve the power going out.

Disaster contingency planning would be a normal part of their setup.


I agree that this might be getting looked at as a higher priority currently, but I'd expect (or at least hope) that it was always a thing for them.

- Generators for essential services are par for course, they are utilised when power goes out so of course a tender is going to reference this (as opposed to a generator under constant/regular use).

- Power retailers are required to record when customers requires any form of life support equipment - AER Life support registration guide 2021

A quick google search suggests you dreamt up your numbers too. The figure is 70,000 daily trips but that would be very optimistic based on station uses in that area. 30-35,000 would be a good number from quick numbers I come up with from station usage along the proposed line.

The 600,000 is the advertising they’re using on site of their current works.

Of course it’s optimistic, or just complete bullshit like their claim it would only cost $50 billion to build the whole thing when Dan dreamt it up, already up to $125 billion and rising..
