We’re praising Curtin no end one week, then blaming his 3-disposal game on the coach the next? Come on

Not saying Nicks isn’t a bad coach, nor am I saying Curtin will not develop - moreso that development for a guy like Curtin (who’s getting ample AFL game time) will take time. If you’re gonna blame it on a coach, do it four years in

I'm not blaming his 3 disposal game on the coach.

I'm saying Nicks has no idea how to use young players so we won't get a good read on whether Curtin is actually good or bad until he's gone.

Until then no one should write him off. He will be inconsistent because I'm not sure he or Nicks really knows what his role is, so may as well keep playing him and accept the ride

It's blatantly obvious Curtin is going to be an extremely good player, he needs time to grow into his body and understand his role in the game.

There is just going to be weeks like this....

Bingo. Everything else said is utter nonsense.

Just a rough week 'tis all.

Spot on.

Not to mention the kid is a unicorn. Really hard to know what he is going to turn into at AFL level.

Well nicks did admit pregame they have no idea how to use him.
Curtin from the games I’ve been to has quite often not been used, tonight he also helped the mismatch with Thilthorpe when he took a one one one grab infront of the points, Curtin got in between Thilthorpe and Aliir and made Aliir have no choice but to go with him.
Wasn’t at his best tonight but then again either was most of the team.

There are three different debates and all can be true.

It's obvious Curtin will be a very good player.

I don't like the role we are playing him in and it's probably hurting his development.

With the mix of the rest of the team I think we need another small. There isn't a heap of quality in the SANFL side but if there was he could lose his spot in the team.

Did Nicks know how to play Max, Soli and Rachele in their first 1-2 years?

they should have subbed Walker and given Curtin some space

We've known for years that Walker isn't nearly as effective when he's banged up and we haven't had a chance to rest him yet (oh besides subbing him in Rnd 1 when he really needed it)

And that’s why I’d keep him in the team next week

Think most of our guys were off, so no reason to not keep going with him

If anyone is worried just go watch the highlight package from the Carlton game. He's going to be a good player, it'll just take a while to find the right role and for his game to keep developing.

I mentioned he should have had a run through the ruck instead of RT - when RT is on you leave him at FF

One of the oldest tricks in the book is to get a missing tall to perform is to throw them in the midfield

What exactly is his role right now?

I'm buggered if I can work it out maybe you can enlighten me?

Doesn't seem to have one.

But he should.

Surely coaches can come up with something for his talent?

Curtin's role at the moment seems to be, starts on the bench, then goes onto the wing, then moves forward when one of the KPFs has a rest.

He has already proved that he is a weapon with ball in hand. Doesn't waste possessions. And his height gives him an advantage in the air. The next step for him will be hunting the ball.

He's just turned 20 years old, and until three years ago was only 6 feet tall. He's still growing into his body. Once he gains confidence in what he can do, his talent will shine through.
