Definitely a "body of work" nomination rather than a standout performance, but well deserved. He's finally nailed a spot, and is building very nicely.

Prefer that to be honest, you see loads of young players bob up with one good game then never really do much else.

I really haven't been as sure that a player will be an out and out star since Dangerfield.

Dan is just an absolute nightmare matchup. Put anyone his size on him and he will destroy them with endurance. Put anyone with endurance on him and he will destroy them with his size.

No player should have his combo of ball skills, marking ability, workrate, endurance and size. He is a cheat code.

The fact we have another unicorn in Thilthorpe, well I just feel spoilt.

Get his signature and get it quick.

I basically agree with this, but don't forget that he has still not completely found his confidence and doesn't always go in hard when required. It's better to be realistic rather than all one way or the other.

Imagine saying he was no good

Someone needs to ring Rowie and out him over his nonsense a few weeks ago saying he'd trade Curtin for a first rounder from West Coast.... Dumb as a bunch of rocks that bloke.

Yeah he’s really building. Not sure he’ll end up in the midfield, but he’ll definitely be a huge point of difference off a wing, and pushing forward

Pls sign a long term deal

Fantatic reward for him, he has been building all year and getting better each week. He is going to be a star of the comp on a few years, let's just hope it is with us!

Curtin has played every game this season for the third-placed Crows, getting rewarded with a Rising Star nominee for round 13.

“I’m talking to my manager at the moment and we’re trying to sort something out,” Curtin told this masthead.

“He’s in talks with the club at the moment so just waiting. I definitely want to be at the Crows long-term.”

Curtin said he paid little attention to speculation suggesting he might want to head back to WA.

“I don’t buy into that much at all,” said the left-footer, who lived with teammates Hugh Bond and Zac Taylor.

“I’ve got family coming over all the time and I’m absolutely loving life in Adelaide. I love the group we’ve got, it’s super young but I get along with the older boys too.”

This is a good shout, his year has been a lot like watching 2009 Dangerfield playing up forward, showing a handful of things a game that suggest he's about to explode, but you can tell that he hasn't yet put four quarters together and isn't quite playing his natural position.

Kudos to the coaching group in the handling of Dan’s development this year following the modern path
of kids with his attributes .
Oliver Dempsey ( last years Rising Sun ) a great high mark given a wing and told to run his guts out, get forward and back
to provide a mismatch and marking option.
Thank goodness we chose against the wishes of many in here to cull Scholl , an old style wingman for the modern prototype.

Bad (not sic) Scott has pulled one from the rough in young Clarke and developing him in the same way but we have
the genuine article who imo will be a magnificent big mid eventually.

I imagine part of the condition for signing a contract is that he gets put into the midfield. He's said himself thats where he wants to play.

Now that a couple of years have passed since Curtin's draft, we can begin to look at the pick trade that happened and see how it ended up. I had forgotten that it wasn't just GWS involved, St Kilda were part of the trade as well. And they then ended up cutting a bunch of deals with Brisbane, Essendon and the Bulldogs to divide the steak knives picks out in various ways. Very involved!

Essentially, it boiled down to:

Adelaide gave 2023 picks 11, 15 and 2024 2nd round pick (ended up being pick 27) to get 2023 picks 8 (Curtin) and 17 (Edwards). If Edwards can forge an AFL career we've made out like bandits. If not, then we've essentially given up two good picks and one decent pick for Curtin, so we need him to be as good as he appears to be.

GWS gave up 2023 picks 8 and 18, to end up with 2023 picks 11 (Phoenix Gothard, yet to play a game) and 15 (James Leake, played 2 games so far). Very poor return at this stage.

St Kilda agreed to move out one place 2023, from pick 17 to 18 (Darcy Wilson has played 34 games already), and in return got our 2024 2nd pick which essentially got turned into James Barrat and Patrick Said (both yet to debut).

GWS the clear losers in the trade so far, although it is probably difficult to break into their side at the moment.

Edit: Just to go further into this, you may wonder how we ended up with picks 11 and 15 in 2023. Pick 11 came from our ladder position (originally pick 9, but pushed out after academy bids on Jed Walter and Ethan Read).

Pick 15 came from trading the two 2nd round picks we had picked up the previous year, which ended up being picks 23 (from North) and 26 (from Gold Coast). We also got Burgess in the deal. The North pick we got from trading out pick 23 the previous year (and also got some steak knives to help match the Michalanney bid), they spent that on Brayden George who is yet to play a game. The Gold Coast pick we got from taking their pick 43 (Dowling) and giving them back pick 79, in return for swapping 2nd round and 3rd round 2023 picks with them. Turned out to be a pretty good trade considering they finished several spots lower on the ladder than us!

So I guess if we're going to sum it all up, after bids pushed out the various picks, we gave up picks 11 (2023), 26 (2022), 31 (2024) and 33 (2023) to get Curtin, Edwards, Dowling and Burgess.

I think history may show that Curtin may be worth all those draft picks on his own!

you can just tell that Curtin is finding his feet and is having real impact in our team
It’s amazing watching his growth as an AFL player. Whether people agreed with Nick’s choices to slowly introduce him as a regular starting 22 or not, you gotta admit the guy is fitting the piece just nicely. If Draper follows suit, then we are in for one hell of a ride!

Indeed.

Reckon Edwards is going to be a good player too... if we actually play him.

Watched the Curtain presser but missed him saying he actually wants to play with the crows long term.
Did anyone actually hear him say this?
